Harmoniously situated amidst the lush mountain forests of Nicaragua, this eco-lodge provides a remote, peaceful refuge at the edge of Los Penas Blancas. The lodge is located in the mountain region approximately 2 hours by car from Matagalpa. The drive to the lodge is lovely and the setting of the lodge is spectacular. With all accommodations built on the sides...

I still can feel the sensation of the nature that surrounds this place. The food is just delicious, the enviroment and the whole place is just beautiful. My experience was really enriching. I had the oportunity to learn about butterflies and little frogs. The service has a good quality. I can´t wait to be there again.

The room was woefully basic with flimsy mattress sliding off the wood platform, and laughable shower and no window. But the rest of the lodge experience more than made up for it: We loved the garden, buterflies, and especially the frogs. We saw fantastic insects everywhere and dozens of tucans and other birds on a short walk from the lodge....

this place was awesome. everything was included. Once you are there you do not need to spend anything additional to fully enjoy everything they have. The food was great, but what you really come here for is the surroundings. peaceful yet full of stuff you want to see in the jungle. our guide took us to waterfalls, to see sloths,...

Great place for relaxing, amazing home made food, each meal was better than the last one. If youre going with a big group of friends 3rd floor is The best. The bathrooms are a bit too small anda a fan would be great. The pools are great even the one with the slider!

Great place to spend 2 or 3 days, hiking through the coffee farm and dry rain forest with a guide, to a waterfall, birdwatching, finding sloths, clambering over canopy suspension bridges. Very reasonably priced, with good meals and friendly staff. The only drawback is hearing the footsteps and conversations of anyone on the floor above yours in the main lodge....

Everything was great - comfort, cleanliness, food, atmosphere and available activities (included in the price). The only downside was the floorboards, especially in the standalone two story cabana where we stayed in the downstairs room. You can hear everything and every move made by those above you and because the wood is creaky, every step seems amplified. We moved to...

La Sombra Ecolodge is located on a working 130 hectares+ coffee farm, which is a treat to visit during harvest season (Nov-Dec). Don Diego, the farm manager, has worked there 15+ years and knows his business very well. He is generous with his time and knowledge and will answer any questions you may have about the coffee growing process. Lester...

We only came for the day, but were treated like we were staying for weeks. Our guide Lester showed us around the coffee plantations, the butterfly house, the frog house, and then took us down to the waterfall. We had an excellent lunch, easily the best vegetarian food we've had in Nicaragua, and enjoyed a good dip in the pool....

La Sombra is difficult to get to if you are taking public transportation. Thus, it is worth staying at least two nights to make the trip worth it. Our chicken bus from Matagalpa to La Dalia broke down so we arrived later than expected. They still had lunch waiting for us which was greatly appreciated. Our guide was very knowledgeable...
