Las Palmares is a hidden tropical oasis on Little Corn reachable only by boat. The hotel is situated inside a local neighborhood 500 meters from the wharf. The property is calm and peaceful; steps to the beach with plenty of outdoors hammocks, beach chairs, & palm trees, We have 8 rooms that were recently upgraded, bright & spacious; Some with queen beds & some with double beds & full bathroom. All our rooms have walk out terrace with rocking chairs for you to enjoy. We offer some rooms with AC and some with fans and natural air! Staying at Las Palmares will offer you the real local experience as you walk by the school into the local neighborhood; steps to local shops, food markets, and freshly-baked goodies. You can’t miss the bright pink building as you arrive. This neighborhood is probably the most interesting neighborhood on Little Corn. You will experience real life on the island, meet friendly local families, and appreciate the simplicity of their every day life. You will see kids chasing chickens & playing in the mud; if you are lucky, you might get the occasional hug once you get to know them! There is a Church near by and a local bar with a dance floor right on the water and pool tables. You will see people hanging out, playing cards and dancing. On the weekends, you can hear the occasional music from both the church and the bar while at the hotel mainly on the weekends. Little Corn Island is a back to basic type of island, it attracts nature lovers, yogis, divers, sea food lovers, and backpackers. You will not find any motorized vehicles on Little Corn (besides the boats of course), expect to walk every where & explore the hidden secluded beaches. You will need to bring cash as there is no ATM on the island. If you need to use your Credit Card, expect a convenience fee of at least 10%. Come prepared to relax and chill out.

My girlfriend and I are currently three nights into our stay and could not be happier, we have even extended for a further four. It is the only hotel whereby you can be taken straight to the entrance by the inter island boat, which was a huge perk given the initially confusing nature of there being no roads on the island!

The hosts and their family are hugely welcoming and have been incredibly helpful with any of our queries. The room is clean and spacious, overlooking a cute beach which is perfect for swimming or catching the sun. The bar has all the sports on the big tv which anyone can wish for, and there are even stingrays dancing in the water at night!

The hotel also provides snorkelling and diving, which is an absolute must. Having traveled through Central America for the last four months, we have not found clearer water, nor a better guide, to completely enjoy such a picture perfect island.

I stayed at Las Palmeras during a visit to Little Corn Island over the holidays. It is a charming hotel that is centrally-located in town - easy to get to from the pier. The staff are very welcoming and helpful, and did a great job of making me feel at home. The rooms are basic, but still cute, clean, and a great value for the price. The food was excellent. Big nod to Ida and her pizza! They have a great snorkel guide on-site, and also offer diving. I stayed at one of the other, more expensive hotels on the island for part of my trip as well, and I definitely liked Las Palmeras better.

My family stayed here 6 days. The family that took care of use was amazing! Super friendly and the food was always amazing. Our stay included breakfast and we loved it everyday.

Our rooms were comfortable and adequate for our stay. Rustic. There was not any hot water but we enjoyed the cold showers. It’s good for you anyway.

The grounds were well kept with a deck area and hammocks. There is also a small eating area where you can order food and drinks. Yummy.

I do want to mention that there is no longer a beach in front of this establishment. The October 2022 hurricane pretty much destroyed the beaches on the island or greatly reduced Ed their size. The website pictures are deceiving. Not a deal breaker for us but it was sad and no one wants you to mention this in a review of the island.

The location of Las Palmeras is in the heart of the local’s neighborhood. You will see how the locals live and get perspective. Take it in and be humble. You are safe and the people are friendly. We are the guest here so please act like one.
You will see lots of trash and some animal scat. Get over it.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and love walking the entire island. We visited every single beach we could scramble to get to.

Best beaches are located near the dock area and right in front of the Beach Bar. This may change based on the season. We had lots of wind and waves on the North side of the island. Still beautiful.

This place is rustic but clean. We had rooms just with a fan which were nearest the sea and there was enough of a breeze coming through the windows to keep us cool enough at night. Electricity goes off on Little Corn from 6am to 1pm so it does get warmer in the room after 6am when the fan stops working. The rooms were basic but cleaned every day, beds made, bins emptied and floors swept which was nice. Good places to sit in the shade or sun and lots of hammocks around the place. Well maintained grounds. Felt a bit empty while we were there and we didn’t eat there (Tranquilo and Desideri’s kept us happy). The locals tended to keep the hammocks out front occupied. Although it was peaceful during the day, guests chatting outside until 5am one night and a bar nearby which blasted music two nights out of three until 2am kept us awake. Location is 15 mins walk from the panga drop off and totally doable with rucksacks. Away from the tourist spots but close to local bakeries and shops. Good location for the off grid west beaches and the path to Otto Beach in the north.

The hotel is nicely located in terms of nearby restaurants (if they are open) and its close to the port. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

The beach of the hotel wasn't as seen in some pictures. Not sure if it was because of the recent hurricanes, the high tide, the time of the year or the location but it was rough, wavy and muddy not safe or nice for a relaxing swim.

The hotel restaurant was closed and so were any other restaurants in the island so we were left with no places to eat breakfast or lunch and walking around the island with the sun trying to find something to eat was very unpleasant.

Right now is not the best time to travel to little corn island. The place is only recently starting to open up to tourism again.

We hopped over to Little Corn for four days during our stay in Nicaragua and it took no time to appreciate just what makes the island so appealing. If you are a traveler who likes the all-inclusive experience, look elsewhere. But if you really enjoy getting back to basics and immersing yourself in authentic "island life," you've found Shangra La. The staff was immensely helpful, and despite the occasional downpour (we were in rainy season), we were able to explore the Island in its entirety and meet its welcoming locals. One gentleman greeted us with "Welcome to Paradise" and we could not have agreed more.

Me and my boyfriend stayed about 2 weeks at this place and we are so happy about our experience there! The place is beyond beautiful, close to all the shops and located right on the beach. The room was very comfortable, the food amazing, all the activites they provide like snorkeling, diving, wakeboarding were incredible and the staff very professional. Thank you again for the amazing stay!

Best place to stay! I’ve stayed in multiple places around the island but this is my favorite (ended up staying for 3 weeks). The atmosphere is very relaxed, friendly and familiar. The owners are professional and welcoming. Aida is an absolute gem and makes you feel at home right away. I felt safe and looked after, they truly care. My room was very colorful and ‘homey’. The outside area is large with lots of hammocks and both places with shade and sun. Food is delicious too. There is direct beach access. You don’t need to dive to have a great stay here. I’ve truly felt at home!

NOT a Boutique Hotel!! A boutique hotel is defined as (From the Wikipedia Boutique Hotel definition page) "A term used initially in North America and the United Kingdom to describe small hotels which have typically between 10 and 100 rooms[1] in unique settings with upscale accommodations." There was nothing "upscale" about our room which only had 2 full size beds and not a single other piece of furniture. The room was so empty it echoed, the shower was dark and dingy, and there was rat poop on the counter top in the bathroom.

Disappointed is the first word that comes to mind when thinking about our one night stay at Las Palmeras. Other words I would use are: false advertising, shabby accommodations, anything BUT a boutique hotel, and a dishonest hostess.

We arrived on the late afternoon ferry from Big Corn Island where we were met with a worker from Las Palmeras. He took our bags and led us on a 10+ minute walk through a neighborhood to the property. Once onsite, we were greeted by a skinny foreigner with curly hair (I can't recall her name) who directed us to our room. Our room was located at the back of the property against the wall that separates the public sidewalk from the property. When we tried to explain that we thought we booked the room closest to the beach, we were told "this is the nicest room on the property and the only room with AC." (Speaking to other guests who had stayed there, we found out that their room also had AC. This was the first lie we were told.) Our room was basic at best. As there were only 2 beds and not another piece of furniture, we had no where to place our personal items, phones, or small belongings when we unpacked them. The AC unit worked, but was very old and super loud when turned on. The shower was located under the staircase that lead to the upstairs unit, so it felt like a small hole in the wall rather then a nice space for a shower. It was so dark we had to use our iPhone flashlights when we showered to see. The bathroom itself was dirty and there was rat poop and a used tooth pick on the only counter space available.

Once we arrived we were informed that there was no restaurant (yet) but they had water, soda, and beer for sale. When I mentioned that the Bookings.com advertisement said breakfast was included we were told that breakfast was served only between 7:30 and 8:30am because someone had to come cook for the guests in the morning and that was the only time they were available. For me, this was discouraging as this was my first real vacation in 3 and a half years since having my children and I was really looking forward to being able to sleep in a little.

Because we had to walk through the neighborhood to get to the property, I asked how it was walking around at night as we would have to go back to town to eat dinner. Our hostess replied that, "It is safe here [on the island] and as long as you don't get really drunk, you'll be fine." But, because it was just the 2 of us (and because we are women), we should "check to make sure no one is follows us when we go out at night." This statement made us more nervous and uneasy then anything. And walking at night was daunting as there were long parts of the sidewalk which didn't have lights and were pitch black. We felt extremely uncomfortable walking to and from town and we were not able to enjoy ourselves.

The following morning, after we forced ourselves to get up early in order to get breakfast on-time, we were informed that there was no menu options, and we would be served only pancakes. While we sat on our patio area we noticed people walking by could see over the wall and we actually got cat called by 2 men. We were so uncomfortable we moved down to the beach common area. I had asked about swimming in the ocean, and was informed by our hostess that she goes for a swim right in front of the hotel all the time. But when I waded out into the ocean, I noticed a small film of gas floating on the surface, and, when I took a closer look, I saw a large amount of trash in the water. Items like a broom, bucket, cups, and plastic bags were stuck in the seaweed in front of me. It was definitely NOT a place we wanted to go swimming.

We decided to move out that day and cut our 3 night stay short by 2 nights. When I informed our hostess that we had intended to move out, I asked if we could be compensated for a small percentage of the U$210.00 she collected from us upon arrival. She told me that she would not be giving us a refund despite our reasons. When I told her the general feel of the place was disappointing to us, as well other guests we spoke too who were also staying there, she was more interested in WHO was disappointed, rather then WHY. Finally, when I told to her that she could clean the rat poop that was on the counter top in our bathroom, I was berated (by the hostess), who let me know, "This is an island and that is totally normal" and she "doubted we'd find anywhere else to stay [on island] that doesn't have the same problem." I promptly let her know that, that was not something she should ever say to a paying guest who was unhappy about their accommodations. We quickly gathered our things and left not wishing to deal with her for another minute.

The next day Bookings.com sent my friend a email stating that we had been reported as a "No Shows" for our reservations at Las Palmeras and that we would be charged a cancellation fee of U$210 for not showing up for our reservation. This was (another) complete LIE as we had been there for one night and decided to leave early. The hostess was simply trying to collect another U$210 from us!!! Of course we let Bookings.com know that this was in fact NOT the case, and we were appalled that Las Palmeras would try to charge us TWICE or our reservation, after we had already paid ($100 in cash and $100 on a credit card) first thing upon arrival!!!

I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE!!! Paying U$70+ per night is a joke for a hotel that is NOT a boutique hotel. Stay anywhere but Las Palmeras, you'll have a much better time.

Response from LittleCornVacations, Guest Relations Manager at Hotel Las Palmeras
Responded 17 Jun 2016
Thank you for taking the time to write such a review and we are really sorry to hear about your experience at the hotel and on the island. We wish you addressed the issues about your room immediately so we can have a chance to help you have a good vacation, we would have gladly moved you to another room if available. We have 3 rooms with AC as it is listed on our website, there is no reason for our staff to lie about this to you. We have pictures on our website, Trip Advisor as well as booking.com of all our rooms with a list of all the features of each one. We have full time cleaning staff and as you can see from previous reviews, our rooms are clean and comfortable. We have never seen a rat on the island before so we are sure we do not have any rats at the hotel, However, you will see little lizards sneaking into the rooms when they can. We still appreciate your feedback as we continue to improve our hotel and continue working on building a restaurant with a covered deck as well as a yoga/sun deck. As described online, we are a boutique hotel with 8 rooms that are uniquely decorated in a simple and tropical way to match our simple and remote island. We are located in a local & safe neighborhood full of friendly and happy locals. Walking through the local neighborhood will help you see and appreciate the simplicity of living on Little Corn. If you are looking for an "upscale" hotel, then you came to the wrong island. There is nothing "upscale" about our paradise island. Little Corn is a back to basic type of Island with only one side walk and no vehicles or "fancy hotels". It is for nature lovers that are looking to experience simple living and natural beauty. Our island is very safe and our neighbors are always friendly, but just like anywhere new you visit, you should be careful and that's what our staff was trying to communicate to you, didn't mean to worry you. Our hotel is located on the beach and while our staff is constantly trying to clean the beach, we take whatever the ocean gives us which sometimes includes some sea grass depending on the weather. We are working together with the community to help clean our island so if you see anything floating in the water, it would be greatly appreciated if you take it out instead of not doing anything about it as it is harmful for the under water life. Finally, we suggest you research the island and the hotel you are vising so you are not disappointed on your vacation and also review the cancellation policy of the hotel before making a reservation so you are not surprised when you hear about it. We have honest staff and all our guests speak highly of them as you can see from past reviews online. We would never try to charge our guests twice, if booking.com is trying to charge you, you should be addressing this with them. Wish you all the best.

Hi Robert, Big Corn to Little Corn: 10:30am and 4:30pm Little Corn to Big Corn: 6:30am and 1:30pm In the island people accept cordobas and dollars. Some places have their prices in dollars and other in cordobas, and they may give you the change in currency they have. So if really depends on what is easier for you. Cheers

Hi, how are you? All of our rooms have mosquito nets on the windows, so you can sleep with your windows open. But because Nicaragua is a tropical country be would always have mosquitoes. Summer would be the best season to come (December-May) because the rainy season is when we have most of the mosquitoes (June-November). Either way you'll find mosquitoes of over Nicaragua and so I would recommend to always be carrying repellent! Hope to see you soon

"We stayed in the double room away from the water. It's an independent room not connected to others and it has air conditioning. It was cool and quiet, so we were happy with our choice. Friends of ours had the room with a view of the water, but they were right above the bar/restaurant and with no air so were kept awake for a time by others."
