the hotel room was nice and clean.my friend and i booked 2 rooms their deluxe with a common porch. after the second day she put all these 15us per night into our building which took away our privacy and balcony space.what she should have done is told us they were going to fill up.would we like to take 2 rooms in another building of which there were 3 empty ones available, her breakfast was good however she refused to buy jelly or honey for her toast, this should have been a sign of what was coming.her breakfast is good but not free 5us.
We ate lobster at 2 different restaurants and we were served 2 tails with rice and salad and they were all 300 cordobas which is 12us.we ate breakfast all 4 days at the hotel restaurant.my buddy and i decided to have lobster at her restaurant our last day before we left the island that evening.we spent 320us with her, which i believe is the most anyone in months had spent with her in 4 days. Her cook brings us 2 dinner plates with one lobster tail on each plate and we believed it was a mistake, keep in mind she is charging the same as the other restaurants,
when confronted on this she starts to rant and rave how she is the only one on corn island who pays taxes and some other nonsense.the bottom line is iam going to reserve 15 rooms at another hotel for 2 weeks and i really hope she sees this review.this is a perfect example of a business owner who is penny wise and dollar foolish

This was a great hotel for the money, we had a large room with two double beds and our own verandah and rocking chairs. It was clean and had very friendly staff. The food was good in their restaurant and they had a bar overlooking the sea.

Morgan's family run hotel is a solid option on Big Corn Island. A very clean property located in the northern part of the island and the sea just on the other side of the street.

The room I was in was one of the mid-range priced accommodation. $25 for a double bed, private bathroom, TV, air-condition, daily cleaning and Wifi in a house in the back part of the property. This price/quality balance is hard to beat on the islands.

The owner family as well as the lady in the kitchen were very friendly and communicative. All kinds of food were offered in the restaurant but, honestly, it was too expensive for me so I took advantage of other places nearby for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was $4, simple but delicious and the coffee was strong :)

I think within the middle of the road places Morgan's hotel is a good choice and you won't be disappointed at all staying here.

First off, do NOT book this hotel online. The reservation will not be made, and they will not honor the money you put down even when showing proof. They claim it is a "broker" that you paid and they had nothing to do with it (even though the online link for reservations is on THEIR website). I realize that you do not have to put a lot of money down for the reservation, but it is such a scam and should be stopped. We have already complained to Paypal about the incident.

Past that - the rooms are very cheap, but for a reason. They hotel is far from everything including both restaurants, beaches, and the port to go to Little Corn. The rooms are nothing special either, although some do have A/C

On a good note, the breakfast was fairly decent, although they only offer one breakfast dish.

My recommendation: skip Big Corn and just go to Little Corn. But if you must stay on Big Corn, find somewhere closer to the port or better beaches.

Response from Hotel M, Public Relations Manager at Hotel Morgan

Hi Mrs. Lisel, Again we apologize for the confusion and we work hard to make sure miscommunication like this is kept to a minimum. And that's what it was...miscommunication between the website administrator and the hotel. Keep in mind that Big Corn Island is a little off the edge of western civilization. Electricity outages are regular and Internet service is slow when we do get service out here. That coupled with the fact the reservation was rather short notice meant that, unfortunately, your booking was not seen by the hotel staff before you arrived. To prevent these types of errors from happening in the future (and this was the first of its kind) we have extended the margin on the days in advance needed to reserve. A client will now have to book three days in advance instead of two. The good news was that there was room available when you arrived and we thank you for staying with us. Your paypal deposit was promptly refunded. We are located only 2km from the port, much closer than the majority of hotels on the island. And while our little beach out front isn't the biggest or the most crowded, most visitors find that it suits our family-style ambiance. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our breakfast. Next time you should try the Rundown for lunch. We cook it Corn Island style with lobster and conch! Lisel we thank you for leaving your review on TripAdvisor. Of course we wish your stay had been a more pleasant experience, but every comment helps us improve. Have a good day!

the place is ok. according to the Nicaraguan gov. if i remember correctly this is a 2 star hotel. i met the owner kerry morgan, shes a nice lady, but some of the other women who work there are a bit slow, cant count money correctly, and are always grouchy whenever the owner is not around...

the bathroom ok. the room was nice. it had cable tv, which actually came in handy after 2 days of heavy rains. during these two days of rain, there was a lot of wind, and the water came into the room beneath the doorway....

its air conditioned (but not the best in the world...) the food was goood though. they take in credict cards the view was great, we had the beachfront cabin. we didnt book this palce, we were walkins

Good food, big portions and the most affordable around.

They only served a traditional Nicaraguan breakfast which is Gallo pinto, eggs, toast and cheese. It's for $3 US, or C $90.

It's a good spot to hit up on the island beers are C $30, which is like $1 each US.

The rest of the menu is uploaded. *Remember prices are subject to change. Current as of April 2017.

Cons - hotel room is small with no door to the bathroom. Sheets didn't fit bed properly and kept slipping off in the middle of the night. Tons of mosquitoes. Friends of staff hang out in the outdoor space, leaving nowhere for guests to enjoy.

Pros - Miss Carrie is very welcoming and helpful, she was fantastic at helping us get our visit to the island organized. Kitchen made the best lobster we had the entire time in the islands - definitely try the Caribbean style!

In the middle of a rainstorm, we missed the panga to Little Corn and asked the taxi driver to just drop us at a hotel with a restaurant. The manager met us at the taxi with umbrellas. The room was modest, but had everything we needed for one night. The restaurant was wonderful. The food was delicious, the employees were informative, and they were prepared with flashlights when the island power randomly went off several times during dinner. The restaurant only has one option in the morning: Nicaraguan breakfast. It's delicious.

This accommodation needs much maintenance. Toilet running, tap for basin leaks and water hits your feet, shower only cold water, bathroom door doesn't stay open, broken window pane letting mosquitos in. The mold is terrible and the bleach they use to cover the mold smell is overpowering. Also every day we would come home and open the door and they will have sprayed insect killer to try to kill the swarms of mosquitos in our room. Each night we were bitten all over. The breakfast was good but not included in the price. Prices in the restaurant for dinner were very expensive - we ate elsewhere.
They advertise wifi but it only works if you go out of your room and sit outside. Not overly convenient.

Hi Sjedwardss, First of all we would like to thank you for staying with us and also for the constructive criticism. Please allow us to address some of your comments. Big Corn Island, as beautiful as it is, is still part of the tropics and that means are constantly fighting against mosquitoes and mold. Fortunately we do a pretty good job. First of all there is usually a good breeze coming off the sea which helps against the mosquitoes, but we make sure that the window screens are in good shape, the screen doors close automatically and our bathrooms remain clean. Here that means a daily cleansing with the only thing available on the island that works: bleach. The odor passes after a few minutes, but if you happen to go to the bathroom right after we have cleaned, it can be a bit strong. Also, we do offer hot water in the private cabanas but not in the dorm room or the rooms with the shared bathroom. Our restaurant prices are set based on the difficulty of cooking the dishes we offer. Sometimes we are one of the only places in town that offers lobster, and you will be hard pressed to find better lobster anywhere else. Our plates are large, filling and delicious. That being said, the prices are set high-average which means you can find more expensive restaurants in town but not necessarily better food! And of course if a visitor is on a backpackers budget, they can always find rice and beans at the street vendors. The wifi in Big Corn Island is a problem for nearly every hotel. Many hotels don't even bother to offer it, and those that do have to suffer with outages and poor reception and the like. We try to remind people that this is a poor island in a very poor country and we try to offer as much as we can to make our guests feel that Hotel Morgan is their home away from home. That being said, we invite you to come back and give us a second chance. And to those planning to give us a first chance, you are welcome and we are sure you will love it here! Thanks, Hotel Morgan

I've been here 3 days now, and am staying longer. The Hotel is right across from the beach, nice area, good snorkelling and awesome dinners! I was told tonight it is one of the 2 best places to eat on this Island! Great value for the money. $15 for a single room with fan & satellite TV (35+ channels). Food is made from scratch, so don't be in a hurry here. I've seen a few ants crawling on walls, (no biggie to me), I wasn't expecting the Hilton. You'll probably find that anywhere here, if you look hard enough. Good nights sleep, they even have a guard keeping an eye out at night, not sure why. Nice guy ! I felt it was safe to leave my stuff here and walk around the island. Never have had any problems. Didi I say the dinners were AWESOME? About $10 U.S. for a entree. Very very good ! Worth the wait. Very glad I chose this place!
