Where to start with a review for ‘Big Fish’ ?!

My girlfriend and I initially booked are stay for two nights, which not only escalated for an instant extension to five after our first one, but furthermore, returning for a further three after visiting little corn.

We were greeted with a much needed warm welcome after the long boat ride, where Mary quickly demonstrated her impeccable hospitality skills. We were shown to our beautifully contemporary room, with; air conditioning, smart tv and a beautiful bathroom.

The following morning the two head waitresses introduced themselves and by the end of the trip became one of the main pulls to the restaurant with their bubbly personalities personifying their general happy attitudes to life which was very infectious. The food was brilliant and great value for money over looking perfectly white beaches and the clear blue ocean.

One of the highlights of the trip was being invited to Mary’s Birthday Do in the restaurant, where the fun atmosphere of the restaurant, her generosity and infectious laugh was on full show.

Any visit to Corn Island has to at the minimum include a visit to the restaurant opposite the hotel, but in reality, on arrival, you’ll live to regret not having a room at ‘Big Fish’ to fully enjoy the atmosphere and location!

We stayed at Big Fish for one night upon our return from Little Corn. We had previously stayed on Big Corn (in the southern part) for five days but we wanted to try something on the northern part of the island (as it’s completely magical) this time around.

Room was clean and had AC and WiFi (although it comes and goes) but we just sat outside when we needed to check things. Staff are friendly and helpful and the area is really nice and their restaurant is amazing. We ate there several times in the week before as well.

Nice beaches close by and plenty of other cafes and restaurants, also a really good bakery.

Would easily stay again.

We loved Big Fish!! Big Corn felt like home after we discovered this guest house. The island was beautiful but coming home to cable tv, AC, a clean room free of
bugs.. was the icing on the cake.

The rooms vary in size, view and amenities but all were good value.

Easy to find, quiet and safe part of the island. Rooms are very clean and air conditioning VERY welcome. Friendly and helpful staff. Top notch restaurant and others just a stroll away. Good swimming beach and locals very friendly. Pay a taxi $15 for an hour tour and you've seen the island. Taxi rides are only 20C per person so go to picnic beech for white powder sand.

This charming guesthouse was the reason we came back to Big Corn Island again this year! From the front, this little beachside cafe presents as a place to dine, with an attractive little patio and tables and chairs under tropical umbrellas. It has an almost bistro like quality that makes it stand apart from other establishments on the Island. The ocean is meters away across the brick road, and the sea breeze drifts across the tables, making outdoor meals very comfortable. The beer arrives in iced glasses, with wedges of locally grown lime (on request). The menu is varied and includes dishes such as Rondon (the local fish stew) to the most amazing snapper ceviches, drenched in lime, fresh tomatoes, cilantro, and garlic. Jamie Oliver cannot compete with the Big Fish seafood cocktails and ceviches!! The food was so good that the big hotels on the island would send their guests to Big Fish for a special evening. The food, in our opinion, is underpriced! Good coffee is hard to find on the islands, most of it being instant, but this place has traditional (Nicaraguan) freshly perked coffee with real milk! The service is lovely, and the staff make every meal a pleasure.

The rooms are probably the best deal on the island. The girls change the sheets every three days, and clean the rooms thoroughly every day. This includes fresh white fluffy towels, large colourful beach towels, soap, and any little item you may have forgotten to pack! There is a washer and dryer down the hall and guests are free to use them. Each room has a quiet air conditioner and a television with several English speaking channels. The large room that my husband and I had featured a big bathroom with a walk in tiled shower with HOT water! Down the hall were two other well appointed bedrooms that shared a clean bathroom and shower. And after ten in the evening, it is very quiet, with hardly any traffic or noise on this quiet side of the island, so one gets a good sleep! The beds are incredibly comfortable.

We stayed for 5 weeks in this little place, and loved every day!

We looked at several places on Big Corn and they didn't compare to Big Fish for value, service, cleanliness, and good will! We felt like this was a home away from home! The staff were truly outstanding, always respectful, helpful, and welcoming.

The comments we heard from other tourists was always the same: "What a wonderful place!"

Sincerely,
Marnie and Allan Faunt

This is a great place to eat on big corn! Though it's a bit on the more expensive side, the restaurant is clean, the service is great, and the food is consistently good. We were so excited to try the bbq, as all the fried food on the island can be a little redundant, and it didn't disappoint. The owner even opened the bbq restaurant up for us on a night they'd normally be closed, and we were so glad- the fish and bbq chicken were both amazing. I'd definitely call this restaurant a must try we're on the island, another nice bonus being that the restaurant owners speak perfect English and will accommodate special dietary requests.

Mary is super friendly and the rooms are clean. The Cafe is also right on some very nice beaches. We came from Little Corn, where we paid much more for a much more rustic room. This was a great value and the room had AC!

Mary also gave us great advice on where to go on the island, and we rented bikes from her for an evening of cycling. The cafe has delicious food (the lobster was great). I wish all the best to Mary and I hope one day I can return.

Quite a surprise really, this Big Fish cafe. I stayed there a couple of days. The staff was really nice and super helpful, the place is clean, the food was very, very good. It is a house, really, and it gives it a welcomed homey atmosphere. Right in front of a very nice beach. REally great for the price.

Good food a pretty reasonable prices. I've eaten here several times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Clean rooms. Cold beer. Right across from the water. We stayed here for a week when we first arrived on corn island and can recommend it.
