Wow, what a nice place! Antonia and Laura run that hostel together with some volunteers and we felt like coming home from the very first second. Those guys spent so much effort in elaborating all the little details (starting with a djungle shower in the garden, a highly sophisticated waste system, pretty wooden beds, a lot of decoration, self made jewelry, and much more) that this hostel was the best we had so far in whole Nicaragua!
The beaches are close, the rooms and bathrooms are really clean, you have plenty of common space to hang out, a fully equipped kitchen and even a palm tree you can get fresh coconuts from.
I will never forget our pizza, coco loco and Angela Merkel night where I had the pleasure to get to know Antonia and Laura better.
Thanks ladies for being the best hosts and for running that little place of peace on big corn island. No need to go to little corn, when you have the chance to stay in island roots.
100 percent recommendation!!! :)

We stayed here for 4 nights. The atmosphere at the house is great, it really felt like we we family/friends.
We had a big room with bathroom and a big sized bed!
There’s a kitchen free to use and for $1 you can refill your bottle everyday.
We used the house as a fall out base, from there we went to the different beaches on the island which was great.
If needed the owner will call a taxi to drive you around the island.
All in all, great location, very nice host and good room with all the needed equipments.

This was an incredible find and felt like a home away from home by the time we left (we stayed 6 nights in total)a. We stayed in a private room and while this is a hostel, the private room with en suite was hotel quality. The entire place is immaculately clean! The owners, Laura and Antonia are great, they are so helpful and when you check in they provide so much useful information about the island! The island is not very big and you can get a taxi anywhere for less than $1. This hostel is located near reef beaches meaning lots of great snorkelling opportunities! A short taxi ride also takes you to pristine shallow 'typical Caribbean' beaches too. You can rent snorkels and bikes from here which are really useful while on the island. We can't recommend staying here enough, you will not be disappointed and it is great value for money!

This is a place I will remember and miss. I stayed here a week and I felt sad to leave the wonderful atmosphere and people there. The staff is so friendly and warm and do all they can to make their guests feel welcome and home. The house is very nice and close to a beach where you can be all by yourself. I would never miss the chance to meet the lovely ladies and feel the good vibes at Island roots.

Me and a friend stayed 4 nights at this lovely place. The hostel is basically a big house with an extra smaller building functioning as dorm. So it's very homey and at the same time you have lots space to be by yourself if you like.
Laura and Antonia were great hosts, welcoming us with lots of tips and Insider information on what to do and where to go. Snorkeling gear is for rent, few bars and shops in walking distance.
The district itself is amazing. Lots of locals around, so best place to get in touch with the friendly and open vibe the island offers.

Found this little gem in low season at $8 a bed and I had the dorm to myself! It was one of the cleanest hostels I've stayed at in Nicaragua and the staff seemed friendly, although as I was the only guest not much was happening (which is fine for me). Use of the kitchen was valuable as eating out all the time would be too costly! The only small things were that I didn't get a sheet or blanket for my bed or a towel, and tiny ants seemed to be everywhere. However besides that, all round perfect stay whilst I was doing a dive course. Very scenic walk to the dive shop every day :)

We had the most amazing time at Island Roots. An excellent stay, price-quality was more than good and the hosts Webster, Claudia and Ingrid (and don’t forget little Jada) where very helpful and made us feel like family.
During your stay you will probably meet some more colorful people that will enrich your journey. The beaches are near, went out a la Caribbean-style, went spear fishing (ask for Chico) and Gayle cooked some amazing rundown and baked some delicious patties (ask Ingrid).
Lean back, go with the flow and enjoy your stay at this place (and Big Corn). We will definitely come back one time.

I can’t think of a single negative thing to say about this beautiful hostel. It has a real family feel to it. It feels more like you’ve rented a summer home with friends! The house is always beautifully clean. Large kitchen with everything you need to cook some good meals for yourself. But if you don’t feel like cooking, there are really great places to eat just a short walk away. And lauri is so helpful with suggesting places to eat and places to visit in general. The hostel has a really nice social atmosphere without being a crazy party hostel.
The neighbourhood feels really safe. It’s an easy walk to at least 2 beautiful beaches. And a taxi to other beaches is always only 20 cordobas.
Big Corn island is a beautiful paradise. And staying at island roots just makes it even better!
