Overall, a great ambiance and a very clean and well-maintained hotel. Ram Tzul is special in that it is a nature preserve, restaurant and hotel all in one. There is a hike ambling to a nearby waterfall. Very special. Order the hot cocoa, the tacos and the beans and rice!

We stayed one night in Hotel Ram Tzul to visit “El Biotopo de Quetzal”. We paid like 80 us dollars for a two person cabin, breakfast included. (Which is quite a lot in Guatemala) However, the cabins are simply gorgeous and provide a nice view over the canopy. They have a huge private terrain with waterfalls where you can swim, that you can access via an 1 hour (single way) hike - with guide only (65Q per person). The hotel is 2 km’s away from El Biotopo. You can walk or catch a bus. The only downside of this place is the proximity to the CA14 highway. Even tough the visual sensation is sublime, the auditive one constantly reminds you of human interference. If you want to visit El Biotopo, then Ram Tzul is still a recommended place to stay. Ps: we didnt spot a Quetzal in El Biotopo. Hiked from 07u00 untill 10u00

I visited Ram Tzul for two nights with a friend as we wanted to hike in the Biotopo de Quetzal. The hotel provided us a large room with two beds, private bath with plenty of hot water. A bonus, as the weather was cool, was building us a fire in their pit in the lobby which we enjoyed in the evenings as well as early mornings. Also, don’t miss the guided walk to their waterfall. It is almost like a mystery walk and quite an adventure with the waterfall a bonus spectacular view. The staff provided excellent customer service, very attentive to our needs, and very pleasant. Rosa Elise, Maria, Ernesto, Edwardo are just a few of the people I wish to commend.

Located at a short ride from the Biotopo del Quetzal (on the right side of the highway before the Biotopo if you come from Guatemala City) Ram Tzul offers a good location surrounded by the same cloudy forest and with its own private reserve. The staff is very kind and attentive. Rooms are clean and well maintained, but do not expect to find a TV, which is why it's the perfect place if you're planning to disconnect for a couple of days while visiting the Biotopo and/or any of the surrounding private reserves. Rooms are located in bungalow units, where you could stay either on the first floor or the second floor. Either one has great views to the surrounding forest, but since the top floor is made of wood, it felt a lot warmer than the bottom floor. Also, the first floors have a small porch and access to the gardens close to the forests, while the top floors have more direct access to the main path. Food was good and at a good price compared to the food in the capital city.

Massive ferns hang from the ceiling almost as tall as you as you enter to find yourself inside surrounded by plants and flowers. Semi circled bench seats encase fireplaces surrounded by floor to ceiling windows so you feel like you are in nature at all times. Very cheap in my book for what you get and the hike to the waterfall is not to be missed. Starting in a bamboo forest you feel like you are in Asia somewhere, then pine forests, jungle, streams, small falls and so many shades of green it makes your eyes hurt. Walk across hand made wooden bridges, and at the end find yourself on a lookout high above a huge waterfall which you can walk down to if you like. A wonderful way to spend a morning. My family loved it, my friends loved it and if my 70yr old Dad can do it easily then so can you and I highly recommend you do.

Ram Tzul is perfectly located for easy access to Biotopo El Quetzal, being some distance from Coban. It is worth staying at least a night here so you can enjoy the spectacular orchids in both the reception area and the gardens and do the walk to the base of the waterfall that is on the river in the Ram Tzul Reserve. If you don't want to walk then you can ride a horse to the lookout over the valley and waterfall. The horses don't descend to the pool at the base of the falls which must be a great place to swim on a hot day. There are fixed mounting blocks at various points to aid the occaisional rider in mounting and dismounting. The rooms were enormous but sparsely furnished and we had plenty of hot water. The food was unremarkable and only really barely adequate, and the service was agonisingly slow. The ubiquitous movie soundtrack played until we suggested that it be rested. The dinning area is filled with orchids in flower and various curios made from bamboo. There is an interesting fire pit area which was not burning on the night we stayed. The dinning area is semi-open to the outside and tendrils of mist drifted in as we ate. Don't let the uninspiring food and slow service put you off - Ram Tzul is in a great location to access the Biotopo El Quetzal and the gardens, buildings and waterfall in its own reserve are all excellent.

First, this hotel is not in coban as listed but is about one hour away near the biotopo de quetzal. Hotel grounds and views of cloud forest are spectacular, and you can hike (guided) to a nice waterfall on the property. The rooms are made of natural materials and furnishings are a bit worn but are adequate, clean, and charming. The main lobby and dining areas have two fire places, and we hung out there in the evenings playing cards. The food is edible but unmemorable. The coffee is disappointing, so consider los ranchitos a few km away for food (40q per person to park there, however, given it is a private reserve with higher chance of seeing quetzals than biotopo). Overall, this hotel is unique. It's the scenery (not the food or service) that would bring me back. It was a unique experience for the night. We did not have time to do the waterfall unfortunately.

The place is beautiful. The top rooms have great views of the forest and mountain. The bottom rooms were good as well. They had hot water and were clean. No TV which was perfect for us and had a good night sleep. There is no AC in the rooms but we stayed in December so nights were cool enough so you didn't need it. My main issue with the hotel is the lack of staff in the restaurant. There were two waiters in charge of the restaurant, bar, reception, rooms, and the hotel in general when we checked in. They were trying their best to keep the customers happy but they were doing too much. Food and drinks took forever to get out, and the food was often cold. I saw staff working from early in the morning to very late at night which should be unacceptable. One more thing, when I called to make the reservation I told the staff that I was traveling with someone in a wheelchair. She reserved room 10 which she said would be easily accessible. This room was the best room for her out of the rest because there are no steps to access it. However, the hotel is definitely not set up for a person in a wheelchair. To get to the rooms, you have to go through the restaurant which is full of stairs and no ramps.

The hotel is small, we did not stay the night but took the long walk, since there is a short one too, there are two places where one can swim, the river and the waterfalls, be sure to have your bath clothes and some swimming shoes since the rocks can be hard on your feets and slippery. The walk to the waterfall is a long trip down the mountain, around 30 minutes down and up. The complete trip is about 3 hours for the long walk and costs around Q60 per person. There is also a beautiful pine forest and a small bamboo forest.

The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are large, build of bamboo, and the area is amazing - in the middle of the forest, with beautiful flowers, and well maintained grounds. The shower is... a "suicide shower", once again, with a very wick stream. It was hard to get warm on a cool, rainy night. There are huge windows, which are very beautiful, but no curtains (!) which hmmm...can be problematic if you are not enthusiastic about exposing your body to whoever-is looking- at- your- windows. Dinner was a disaster. It is pity because this is the only place you can get something to eat in the area. And so was breakfast, including the worst coffee we had in Guatemala.
