We have just returned from a 2-week stay with our 2 girls (8 and 5) and we are so glad we spent this time at Lion's Rest. There is a culture of authentic and warm hospitality that runs through the place, and that is really what made our time special, in addition to the great recommendations from Mike, Sunil and many others on everything from waves to beaches to local restaurants. Families, single travelers and couples all mixed into the vibe of the place and we can't wait to come back! Lucky is a super skilled surf instructor, giving our kids their first lessons and helping me better understand strengths and weaknesses in a way that really helped with progression. There is a nice restaurant with something for everyone. We were grateful to get to experience this special and very well-run place - not easy to do on the heels of a pandemic. it was hard to say goodbye and we feel more like it is a see you soon. We cannot recommend Lions Rest enough! Mike, Sunil and all the staff were amazing - so welcoming, friendly and great advice on trips to take and places to visit. They really can't do enough for you. The room was spacious and clean with a great views from the balcony. The curry buffet was the best curry we had whilst in Sri Lanka and great choices for breakfast. You are paying a bit more when you stay here, but it is totally worth it - especially when the power goes as it often does in Sri Lanka and Lions Rest have their own generator which kept the fans going! Really well appointed to explore all the local beaches. Can't wait to return!

The place is really great to stay here in Weligama. All the staff is very friendly and Sulim, the manager, is very welcoming and will always help you with everything. The rooms are very clean and the food is great. We definitely recommend this stay!

My Fiancé and I have just returned from a 2021 Christmas and New Year Stay at The Lions Rest Guest House. I want to thank the staff so so much for the most wonderful holiday! We stayed in room 2 with a balcony overlooking the village green and beyond to the stunning warm ocean and surf. Many evenings and mornings spent on the balcony watching the sights, the local lads playing cricket, the incredible sunsets and lets also mention the little group of cows and calfs grazing. All a feast for your eyes, heart and soul! The Lions rest is situated just metres from the beach in the small village of Gurubabila, perfect for the couples and families, Yoga fans and surfers. Mike (The owner) and his team couldn't do enough to make our stay just perfect. Whats special about this place is where its situated along the stunning Sri Lankan South coast. A small community village where you really slot into the lifestyle in your time here, meeting and making great friends with other guests and the lovely locals. Thank you again Mike, We WILL be back! I really enjoyed my stay at Lion's rest. I've been traveling in Sri Lanka alone for a month and staying here was one of my highlights. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. I always felt so safe and secure there. The staff is always willing to help and answer any questions. The place is located in a little pocket, it's easy to get around and you are within walking distance from the beach! Breakfast is served with a view of the pool and beach and you have a menu you can choose from daily. I highly recommend grabbing a surf lesson with Luck!

No small hotel in Sri Lanka does it better than Lions Rest in my opinion. To stay in an authentic Sri Lanka village and experience the daily life is a unique experience. The hotel is safe, clean and in times of the Covid pandemic the place feels secure and the owner Mike has a wealth of knowledge about the area. The hotel offers such an array of facilities, swimming pool, yoga, surf instructors, good food, a cool hang out area and they put on amazing barbecues and Curry buffets. The rooms have real character , beds extremely comfy and easy to use safe for valuables, also a bonus being away from the busy coastal road and railway its quiet as well. The staff and management make you feel so welcome, and are always there for your needs and enquiries. There are several walk to surf spots so ideal for surfers , and nearby is a good mix of cafes and restaurants that are within walking distance. Great places for families as well, with many daytime excursions that can be arranged by Mike and the staff. Go you won't be disappointed!…

Lions rest Right on the beach front of coconut point...a great surf spot. The hotel is a beauty The staff are super friendly. Always smiles Its very clean. Its very safe. And has a nightwatchmen too The food is deluxe...the pool is immaculate and more useful than you think. Plenty of chill out luxuries dotted around.. Hamocks. Giant bean bags etc. Service was ace. Lion's Rest is perfectly positioned overlooking the sea & beach at Coconuts. It's a quiet location in the evening but only a short stroll from other bars and restaurants in the village. You can walk to surf Coconuts, Plantations & Rams and tuk-tuks are readily available to grab ad-hoc if you want to go further. The owner Mike is really helpful and knowledgable on all things local and makes sure all his staff attend anything you could want or need. The rooms are really clean and well maintained, with air-con, fans, a safe, as well as newly upgraded fast internet cover. over the whole site. Food is fresh and tasty, with daily specials and a weekly BBQ, and the bar is well stocked and everything is competitively priced. There's a really good vibe to the place, thanks to Mike & his friendly local staff, and thats the feel of the whole village, friendly, chilled and safe. We arrived straight after a hard time for Mike keeping things going after covid lockdowns, but genuinely, with 12 years running it he knows his stuff and has hit the ground running.
