Phonsavan is nothing special, but you may get there if you want to visit the Plain of Jars. This Guesthouse is a basic one (although they were renovating a lot), but central and comfortable; rooms are not too big, but you have free wifi and hot shower; owners are very friendly and helpful. Recommended if you are looking for a cheap but good structrure.
For 50'000LAK in low season I had a private room with big bed, bath, very good wifi on every stage, tv I didn't used and a big window. Can not really complain about anything, compared to other guesthouses. Only thing that got on my nerves was that there is no place for hanging out. Smoking on the stairs feelt weird. It's also like 150m from the main road, so you just have to deal with the sound of cocks and dogs. The family owning this place is nice. Like a grimmi granny but a lovely grandad hanging out with the kids.
Stayed here for two nights and cannot complain: Comfy bed, a real blanket for colder nights, hot shower close to the main road. Practically the only guys staying there, but that's for the fact that the town is totally underrated for what the surroundings have to offer
Sabaidee guest house has a very good location; it's very close to the market, van bus station and tour agencies. The room that we booked was basic but with a big and very comfortable bed and a bathroom with hot water. However, the price was different than as they stated on the internet (50.000 kip on the internet versus 80.000 when we arrived there). The whole situation looked like a scam, which was quite disappointing. Plus on the second evening we didn’t have internet. Other than that it's a good place to stay at.
After looking at an other guesthouse wich was too expensive i got a room here for 30.000 kip with shared bathroom. A bed, rubbish bin and a little table. But there was big noise coming from upstairs so asked to switch to other room. 40.000 kip with double bed and ensuite. Then the shower wasn't working so moved again to another room wich had a small tv and was 50.000 kip. Wich i found out the next morning. I assumed it was 40.000, they offered me this room because the shower didn't work. The rooms are dark, no sunlight and cold. During the night it can be freezing in Phonsavan. But the tv worked and had a moviechannel to entertain because in town there isn't much to do. Next day i wanted to rent a bike from them, the lady told me 70.000 kip for the day, then she saw the look on my face and changed to 40.000 kip. I ended up renting a bike on the mainstreet for 25.000 kip a day. Location is ok, in a side street but 2min to the main street with restaurants. If you don't look for something fancy and not to expensive this is a option. Just eat or rent bikes somewhere else. And bring warm clothes during this time of year. No Wifi, go to the cafe's or restaurants.…
