kind of in the middle of nowhere, but still possible to walk into the town and close to the markets, the rooms were a bit basic and in need of some work, but the room was clean and beds comfortable, value for money as it was cheap, added bonus was the breakfast included which was average but adequate, staff were a bit unavailable and disorganised, but they were pleasant. there was also a free pick up from the bus station to the guesthouse.
The most worst accommodation in Phonsavan...rooms were old and crappy...bed was rickty...bathroom handles fell off taps...no remote controls for air con & TV...on arrival no one spoke English so couldn't understand our booking... long way out of town...we stayed 10 mins & checked in another accommodation via internet...and checked out...don't ever ever book this accommodation
We stayed at this guesthouse two nights while visiting the plain of jar sites. We had a big room but the curtain was missing. The shower is boiling hot and than freezing cold. We booked a room incl breakfast but the staff tried to send us to a place across the street to get breakfast. After a discussion we finally got breakfast in the hotel but it was very poor. This is not a good guesthouse. There are many different guesthouses and hotels for a better price and closer to the city centre!
So lets start at the beginning... on arrival didn't have deluxe double aircon with balcony as booked and paid for and with their limited English were told only had twin air con or cancel. Okay good start... took the room on offer. Should have cancelled at that point. On inspection of sheets noted that appeared to have already been slept in and towels stained. Room in our opinion disgusting, one bed was not possible to sleep in due to coil springs totally unbareable so deluxe double turned into twin turned into single bed for 2. Slept on top of doona cover in our sleeping bag inserts. One of those places where you shower with thongs on and cannot believe some of the more recent positive reviews which is why we chose here to stay. Starting to agree with some other reviewers that if you book prior with Agoda that they give you the worst room. Walls were paper thin and at 1am people upstairs sounded like they were furniture removalists, dogs belonging to local neighbour barked for the majority of the night and the roosters started crowing at 4am so hence to say it was very broken sleep. Air con leaked on the floor. Light by the bed didnt have globe. Do not take the chance on a reduced sleep 2 nights like we did, all for the Plain of Jars which by the way were amazing. No recommendation whatsoever.…
This guest house would probably be fine in the hot weather but in the winter the night temperature in Phonsavan can fall to freezing and in common with most of the hotels in town there is absolutely no heating! Thanks goodness I had a kettle and a Sigg metal water bottle to warm the bed. The room was clean, light and spacious, however the bedding was very worn (with holes in the pillow case) apart from the huge red Chinese blanket (which was essential to keep warm). There was a large damp patch on the wall but it looked like it had been caused by a previous shower malfunction rather than anything more sinister. There was plenty of hot water in the shower thank goodness. Satellite TV showing CNN and BBC - better than many other places. I actually slept very well once I had got warm. This place is a little out of the the main drag but it's only a 10 minute walk to restaurants etc (also freezing cold). It has a lovely view of paddy fields and hills from a first floor balcony. Breakfast was hot and fresh but was that South East Asia staple of two fried eggs and a lovely fresh warm but rather sweet baguette. The staff were friendly but clearly feeling the cold rather badly too.…
