A typical budget accommodation the liked of which can be found throughout Laos and the rest of Southeast Asia. At a walk in rate of 80,000 LAK it is perfectly acceptable for budget travelers. Nothing much to complain about. The Wi-Fi worked well and the hot water was okay.
I stayed 1 night in the ground floor. The room very big and clean ,very good smell from floor cleaner. I stay in fan room (80,000 kib) because Phonsavan has lower temperature than other province. This GH very near restaurants and other accommodation.
I stay here every time I come to Phonsavan, Laos. I oftentimes stay here for months at a time (when I teach English in PSV). The rooms are "Laos basic", cable (with English/Thai channels), flatscreen (on the "small side"-but "OK" with me). What I like about this GH is that is "SUPER CLEAN", fairly new (I'd guess about 5-6 years old), located just one street over from the "main drag" (runs parallel to the "main drag", very quiet, etc... Just a great "bargain" overall! All the times I've stayed there it runs about $8.00. They don't/won't give you a discount no matter how long you stay (sucks; but is the Laos way). Also, if you're like me and use that for a home base and travel out of town for a day, two, three or "whatever"; the GH will not let anybody else stay there, even though you have already paid for the room. What I mean is that if you have a local friend, or a "co-teacher", or any acquaintance at all that you want to stay at your room while you're gone; the GH won't allow it. I have never had anything stolen from me there. Can't say the same for several other GH's in Laos (two watches, expensive pocket knife, bottle of bourbon, etc... NOT EVER AT THIS PLACE! PLEASE NOTE!!! IF YOU DON'T SPEAK AT LEAST A FAIR AMOUNT OF THAI/LAOS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE (EASILY) WITH THE FRONT DESK. If you have a hard time trying to communicate with the front desk; I suggest that you go to "Cranky T Cafe" and ask for "Tanoi". She is Laos, but raised, educated, etc... in the USA for a very long time. She is always "Happy" to help out people. She also runs the best bar (in my opinion) in PSV, great little coffee shop and the nicest convenience store in all of Laos (period)! If you see her; tell her Mike (P-1) sent you there. In conclusion... I recommend Dokkhoun GH. 5-Star value; 1-Star price! "Safe and Happy Travels"!…
