Nice holiday but not completely 5 stars. I have stayed at really nice 5 star hotels and this one just doesn't compare, at all I'd like to start of this review by saying that the reason we had a lot of fun was because we left the resort and explored the island. You will definitely bore yourself to death just staying at the resort. First impressions - we arrived to heritage awali around 6am, check in wasn't until 11am so the staff wanted us to wait 5 hours in reception with a 2.5 year old toddler. Toddler was repeatedly trying to run to the pool. After pleading with staff for anywhere to stay, they let us stay in the shower rooms until our room was ready. We weren't allowed to leave our room until the dr came and carried out a covid test. Earlier when we arrived we had already been all around the resort and we were even give a tour by one of the staff who was heavily pregnant, but thank God we didn't have covid ey?! We would've infected the whole resort! The kids club were good however we did have some incidents. The staff don't keep a very good eye on the kids and I've seen this myself as I peak in from outside as our room was right infront of the kids club, there was more than one instance where I could see my child playing with some children in the garden in a far corner with no staff present. Consequently we had complaints twice of our child biting other kids, we were even told we couldn't bring our child to kids club anymore. At this point insanity had taken over and I was ready to leave this resort and just go somewhere else. In the end after speaking to the manager they kindly sorted out a babysitter who stayed with him in kids club, someone to follow just HIM around because I didn't think they were keeping him nor other children safe. Our babysitter, Swasti was the best thing about this whole trip. She was our sanity and our help during the whole time staying at the resort. She needs to get more credit for her work because she will be the only reason I ever return to heritage awali. That aside, the views are gorgeous and mauritius itself is gorgeous, that's what I believe is saving this resort. We really enjoyed boma night but it's far too expensive for what it really is, we paid 50gbp each to watch 8 people dance around and breathe out fire a few times. The food served at boma is the same food we had been eating at savanna pretty much with some BBQ chicken wings. The food in the rest of the resort was nice but anything that sounds nice and unusual to have in mauritius (like the chicken shawarma wrap) is disgusting. Stick to the basics and you'll be fine, infinity blue we enjoyed the most, zafarani was a joke (maybe it's because I cook indian myself) that it was almost inedible. Kuzini was okay but all the food in the a la carte restaurant was repetitive and not much variety between lunch and dinner. I know the manager is on here saying no other resort in mauritius has the same restaurants and hes right because they have better. Breakfast was okay, fruit absolutely horrible mush the whole time we were there (maybe not in season during may?) Also don't be fooled by the amafrooty restaurant they've got on their website, it doesn't exist. They have snacks at the zenzi bar between 5-6pm and they've named it "amafrooty" online. (Not sure why lol) The rooms were nice, Nidhi our housekeeper cleaned it well everyday. If you do visit this resort I recommend you take a private boat with Hans you can find him infront of the coco shack. We had an amazing boat ride with private snorkelling and we swam with the dolphins, it was a once in a lifetime experience. All in all it was ok. The reason we enjoyed our trip was because of the activities we did outside (you can book activities online with transfers) and the boat ride with Hans. We also had Swasti who helped us out with our son when we needed baby sitting and when he was at the kids club during the day. Nidhi also made our stay more enjoyable. WE will definitely come back to mauritius but next time we'll be staying at a different resort (a 5* Also just like to add that dinner time is far too late for young ones and the only food offered for room service is chicken nuggets or fish fingers and chips so we left the resort most days to feed our son…
Great hotel, with staff who go out of their way to be helpful, friendly and welcoming. It would have been possible to fill every minute with kayaks, swimming in pools and the lagoon, paddle boarding, aqua, cycling and the glass bottom boat - all included in the package. The loungers and sofas on the beach, with the distant sound of waves breaking on the distant reef were too tempting at times, especially with the friendly delivery of peach ice tea! The food was fresh, tasty and varied enough to keep our vegetarian daughter very happy. The Boma experience was a highlight of the trip - alongside the trekking we took part in within the nature reserve. Marie Antionette looked after our rooms exceptionally well. We hope to return in the near future.
Loved everything about our stay, hotel and location. Most of all the hotel staff made our trip extra special and their level of service is superb and welcoming. The food was lovely and our favorite place to eat on our final night was at Le Chateau - one of the best meals we’ve ever had. Will definitely visit again.
Great hotel, friendly staff, nice relaxed atmosphere to it, food and drinks are great. Recommend lunch at infinity Blue, buffet restaurant is great. Indian restaurant was okay, Italian restaurant food was nice, but food was slow to come. Coco shack for a coconut drink. Recommend beach shoes for the beach as a lot of coral, just avoids you and the kids hopping about and easier to stroll into the lagoon. Spent most of the time at the family heated pool, nice on a warm day but does have a chill element if a cloudy day, kids loved it. Go to the C beach club where you can take out the kayaks etc. Trips, recommend the helicopter 20min, Boat trip (dolphins, whales, turtles, rays) we booked via Rolo boat trips via F.book in advance. 4x4 at the national park, was okay, highlight being able to go in the fresh waterfall. We had 7&9yr kids, beach front ground flr, you walk directly onto the beach, room has large comfy bed for adults and double for the kids that share, you can use the large pillow as a divider, mini bar is well stocked daily. The best compliment i could give is that i would stay at the Awali again. Great eco-sustainability approach, Good service, food and drink and a relaxing time, Special thanks to Samaya, Rohit and team at infinity. Mr Oliver aka Ja Rule who tirelessly works the drinks round the pool with a smile on his face. Avinaash on the Bar. Teshav on front of house who was always on hand to help and assist with the different queries we had, Awali has a great team!…
We traveled as a family of four - my wife and I, and our son (5) and daughter (3). The buildings and grounds are beautiful - clean and well maintained. We stayed in a sea view room (set around 100m back from the beach) and the view from our ground floor terrace was great - a nice spot for our morning coffee. The room itself was well kept and big enough for two adults and two young kids. Housekeeping were very good - our housekeeper introduced herself at the start of the trip and let us know that she was available if we needed anything - a nice touch. This was consistent with the attitude of all of the staff throughout the resort - polite, welcoming and keen to help out whenever possible. Our kids loved the kids club and we felt comfortable leaving them in the capable hands of the team there (and we’re certainly on the cautious side when it comes to this sort of thing). Unfortunately, the positive impact the staff have on the overall guest experience is outweighed by some things that I do not expect at a five star resort. Firstly, the room we spent our first night in was so close to the bar that we could hear the live music act until after 11pm (not just faint background noise but we could literally hear each song word for word). A rough start with two young children after a long flight. Thanks to the reception team we were able to move to a room in a quieter spot even though the hotel was at full occupancy. Secondly, the food and beverage offering was poor, both in quality and organisation. The buffet selection was limited, and we were forced to eat there more often than we’d liked due to non-availability of the two a la carte restaurants available to families (others are adults only). This was despite trying to book our restaurants for the week immediately upon arrival. The restaurants open for dinner at 7pm but seem unprepared to welcome guests at this time, the buffet staff are still setting up the stations and at the Italian restaurant it was 19:45 before our kids got their meals. Given there is no food available between lunch and dinner (edit: we were made aware of an “afternoon tea” of crepes and ice creams on the final day) it was a massive downer for us to make a 3 and 5 year old wait so long between meals, and we had to take the kids to bed before we’d finished our meals on more than one occasion. The most baffling thing was the organisation of activities so heavily promoted in the Hotel’s marketing material. Our attempt to book a 4x4 experience in the nature reserve was thwarted by non-availability in the upcoming six days. Our attempt to book the hotel’s glass bottom boat trip was quite hard to believe. We enquired at reception on our first afternoon and were told we had to get the shuttle bus to the beach club to book there. A 10 minute wait for the shuttle bus and a 2 minute drive to the beach club to be told there was no availability on that afternoon. Ok, no problem, we’ll book for the next day. Only it’s not possible to book in advance. So we got back on the bus. The next morning, I asked at reception if I’d missed something the previous day and the receptionist kindly phoned the beach club and passed me the phone. I was then told that there was no availability and that I needed to call in the morning. This was at 9:08am. I asked what time I should call and I was told that they only open at 9:00am. Right, ok. The next day we once again got the shuttle bus, waited for the beach club to open and were finally able to book the trip (one hour and 15 minutes after leaving the hotel). Not what I’d consider a five star experience (incidentally the boat trip was lovely and our kids really enjoyed it). Overall, we got the impression that cost cutting initiatives have really hindered the ability of the Hotel staff to provide a true five-star experience and while we loved Mauritius (thanks in part to the boat trip we took with an external provider “Still Here Sea Activities”) we’ll be staying somewhere else on our next visit.…
We loved the hotel itself, the nature and all the luxurious trees and plants beautifully placed in and around the rooms, restaurants and pools. On the other hand, the service lacks consistency and obviously the staff really need a customer service training! If you are luck you can meet great staff but most of the time they were either over promising or just not available.
Exceptional customer service throughout the hotel with every staff member encountered. They really do go the extra mile. From the moment of arrival through to departure we had an amazing time. The weather wasn’t great (June us their Winter), but most days we managed to get onto the beach and have a lazy time. We were after a resort where we could simply kick back and unwind and that’s what we experienced. The good is superb, with great waiters/waitresses. We particularly liked the Indian and the sea food. The food was good at the Italian, but found it to be quite noisy due to this being the only alacarte restaurant where children were allowed. We ate most nights at alacarte restaurants and had no issue on booking for our whole stay and swapping, and the hotel was at 85% occupancy. Free room upgrade to sea view, top floor with great sea/family pool view. The spa is very well run and totally relaxing. We visited 3/4 times just to chill in the hot tub and sauna. We had complimentary massages, but they got the strength mixed up between me and my partner. I requested hard massage, partner requested soft, but we had the opposite. After the massage, this was dealt with very professionally and the Spa Manager did everything possible to sort out and I had a further hard massage which was out of this world. We hired a car, so we could explore and saw most of the island, but appreciate some nay be worried about this although in our experience, driving was easy and no problems. The food and drink offering superb throughout the stay including non alcohol beer and wine freely available for those who don’t drink or want a day or too for their bodies to recover. On closing, the staff do everything possible to enable you to chill, relax and unwind, which is what we were looking for! Thank you for such a memorable holiday…
Going to Mauritius has been on my bucket list for a while and i couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Truly welcoming and all the staff will go out of their way to make sure you have the best time. I really do not have anything bad to say. They catered really well for families and my boys loved the kids club who welcome you children no matter what time and ny boys loved it. They moaned they didn't spend enough time there. Food was great so much choice but do book the restaurants before you go. Spa was amazing and so was the boat trip to see the dolphins and whales what an experience. A holiday hard to beat. Thank you so much Heritage for a fantastic holiday.
Reception was great. Special thanks to Mr Vishal Prayag and his team for the room display. Hats off to Chef Camben and his team at Infinity blue Chef Jordan Mrs Shyama and the service team. Food at Kuzini was superb as well the service. Special thanks to Mr Ramanah Will surely come again and highly recommended.
A brilliant establishment, a wonderful place to unwind and slow down, especially at the adult’s only pool, loved it. All the al-a-carte restaurants are excellent and offer amazing food and service My partner Jackie and I had a fabulous time. The staff are wonderfully friendly, all say hello, So many nice people, Desire, Daveen and Raveesh made sure our glass was always wet. Melanie from management was lovely, always smiling. As ever with a short review we can’t name check everyone but thank you everyone. Tips 100% book your restaurants before you travel out. Visit Le chateau, plus do the wine tasting Use the Spa and Jacuzzi, brilliant. Do the fine dining on the beach, well worth it, try the rum cocktail making, great chat with a spicy rum. Go snorkelling just off the beach Remember to book the shower room or Spa area before your flight home.…
