Within the past two months, I have stayed at the Renaissance Cincinnati Downtown 16 times. I feel like I am in an excellent position to give a review. I have never given a review if it in the past because of fondness for the lounge and front desk staff. I have stayed at this hotel primarily for the location. The lovely woman, Susan, who takes care of the lounge, couldn’t be nicer or take better care of guests in the morning. As another poster mentioned, however, it’s so strange that the lounge never has tea, coffee, or other drinks during the day. Currently, I’m in the lounge again because my room wasn’t cleaned. The young man at the front desk asked if I had requested it to be cleaned. I’ve stayed here 16 times without ever having to do that, nor was I informed that the policy has changed and that we now have to request to have a clean room. I would think that Titanium status would get a clean room for me even if I rarely get an upgrade. Cleaning has been an issue off and on all year. From what I gather, they have a new housekeeping director. Here are some examples of cleaning issues that have occurred: empty shower gel dispenser last night, blind that won’t raise last night, big disgusting patch of menstrual blood on the mattress pad (showing through sheets) a few months ago, smoke smell in multiple rooms, food crumbs on tables, crumbs on floor, broken makeup mirrors, loose toilet seats. This hotel is not cheap. However, it seems the company who owns it will not pay for quality housekeeping. I’ve stayed because of the location. I’m trying a nearby hotel next week. I’ll miss the lounge and some of the front desk staff, but I am simply out of patience with the rotten housecleaning.…
Great hotel in historic building! Central location to Cincinnati, walk downtown, Banks, OTR, or northern Kentucky. The rooms were comfortable, nicely decorated and good amenities. Breakfast and service was great. Very nice, large gym. Valet was quick and prompt. Concierge lounge. Friendly staff. Will stay again!
For some context, I live in NYC and travel quite a bit for work, including to Cincinnati where my organization is based. I almost exclusively stay at Marriott properties. I have stayed in several different Marriott hotels in Downtown Cincinnati (The Courtyard, The Westin, AC Hotels in the Banks, etc.) and this was my second stay at this Renaissance. To be frank, my first stay at this Renaissance (which was back in July 2022) was NOT my favorite stay and my stay earlier last week was downright subpar. My colleagues and I all stayed at the hotel for a work retreat and we all had several issues with our stays. Here’s a snippet of what I experienced during my stay: - My check-in experience felt impersonal and rushed. The receptionist who helped me didn’t acknowledge my status and loyalty to Marriott (I'm Titanium Elite with standard in every hotel i’ve stayed in); barely acknowledged me, in general; and initially placed me in a room that was facing other rooms until I explicitly asked for a different room and one preferably with a view (which, to be fair, he did oblige and changed my room). I also had to ask specific questions about information that should have automatically been provided to me upon check-in. Overall, the receptionist just did not seem interested in me as a guest and i've had better check-in experiences at a Courtyard Inn (lower category hotel). - When I got to my room, the windows were entirely covered in what looked like browning, peeling plastic and the bathroom did not look particularly clean, including what looked like some sort of dried crust on the counter (see photos). I did not feel comfortable staying in that room so I went back down to the front desk to request a different one. I will say that the receptionist was helpful in finding me a different room. - However, the second room I moved in to also had several issues, and it also didn’t seem particularly clean, but seemed a little cleaner than the previous room so I didn’t bother trying to change rooms again or reporting it because I was already pretty tired and had to work. Some of the issues in this room were something that looked like sticky liquid streaks down the back of the door, one of the mirror lights in the bathroom didn’t work, the toilet seat was very loose (as was the toilet handle), there were noticeable stains on the carpet, and there was only one towel and one hand towel in the room and no shower floor mat provided (so I had to use a hand towel to make sure the floor didn’t get wet; I only discovered this when I was right about to shower). - The hotel's R-Club lounge had no beverages or snacks throughout the day. This was particularly strange for me since I have never stayed in any Marriott hotel that had a lounge that didn’t have basic soft drinks, juices, and/or light snacks. As a frequent business traveler, having this as a simple amenity makes a big difference when I have to work late or don’t have time for meals. The lounge DID serve breakfast, but being able to grab a piece of fruit or a soft drink in between those times is a minor thing that can make a big difference for travelers. - I ordered room service one night and although the food was fine, and was delivered promptly, the person who delivered it was a bit unpleasant; not friendly at all. - Lastly, upon check-out I received an e-mail from a Front Office Ambassador for this hotel asking for feedback on how to ensure they can provide a "10-star experience"; several other folks (I assume also staff of the hotel) were copied on the e-mail; I took the time to share some feedback with the front office ambassador and the other folks who were copied, in the hopes of genuinely helping the hotel address some of the issues that I and my colleagues experienced . . . I heard nothing back from the hotel at all; not even an acknowledgement of receipt (and it's been well over a week). Crickets. To summarize, I don’t think this hotel lives up to the service, cleanliness, or amenities standards of most Marriott properties and definitely doesn’t live up to the Renaissance name. And clearly, even if you share feedback, they're clearly not interested in actually providing a good hotel experience for guests. Trust me . . . stay elsewhere.…
Beautiful old building. Nice room. Incredible staff. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. Bar was nice as well. Great Valet Service - worth every penny. We will stay again. When they remodel they should do it with an eye to the period when the hotel was built. Especially with the bar, lobby, and other common areas. Rooms as well although I recognize this may be more difficult. Thanks to the owners fir preserving this beautiful building.
Arrived in town for NFL game. Stayed two nights. Checked in/out using iPhone for everything. Flawless experience. Front desk personnel (Taylor) was exceptional. She answered all questions and was extremely knowledgeable about the area.
Pillows very soft. Bathroom one clothes hook. 4 people two cups supplied. Only 3 towels. Drip through coffee atrocious. Staff friendly ad helpful. Paid breakfast. Food at restaurant so so. Clean. Will not return.
Beautiful hotel in a great location downtown. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Employees were pleasant and helpful. Aveda bathroom products were a bonus. Definitely recommend parking and eating nearby though due to pricing and easy alternatives for both.
The accommodations and service were top notch from front desk to valet. Kyla went out of her way to guide us around the city to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We took in the Reds game and had a blast. Everyone in service was polite and helpful exceedng our expectations and for that we were grateful. On our next trip to Cincinnati we will be staying at the Renaissance just because of our experience.
Waiting hours for my room to be ready. But the poor people next to us are 80 years old and they don’t have any rooms. Beware of this hotel if you need to check in before 9:00 PM They club level closes whenever they want so you can not rely on that benefit. Don’t book the club level it’s a waste of money. They also Lie. If you ask for a manager they will lie about who the manager is and there availability. Don’t believe them if they say your room will be ready. If they say they are working on something they are not.
We stayed for 2 nights at the hotel and had a great experience! Megan at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. When she learned that I had just completed a road trip visiting 3 states completing my bucket list item to visit all 50 states, she arranged to have some Kentucky bourbon delivered to our room! The rooms were very nice. We also had drinks in the bar both nights and the bartenders were great!
