Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As a small, family-owned boutique hotel, your support means the world to us and fills us with pride. My mornings have been saved by Anita and Sandy. Their company has been magnificent while I relax after work. They've become a regular part if my, "Pau Hana," routine. To hear they wont be here anymore in the morning is disheartening. If there's any room for consideration please keep them, as I would be lost without their almost daily contributions. Sincerely, The AM Barfly

To all the staff at The Equus - particularly Lincoln and Collett, thank you so much for the kind service we experienced during our stay at your Hotel - The room was exactly what we were looking for at the price range we wanted. The help Lincoln provided at the front desk was fantastic and I cannot thank him enough. He went out of his way to help out most importantly, it was genuine. The cleaning staff was respectful and the bar staff was always polite and ready to make you an exotic tropical drink or an excellent coffee. 10 minutes walk the Ala Moana shopping center add 5 minutes and you will find Walmart. 15–20-minute walk will get you into Waikiki beach or there are local busses that go past all the time for $3 or $7.50 24-hour bus pass that you can purchase from an ABC store about 100 meters from the hotel. Important to remember if you are bringing your Australian mobile un-locked phone to Hawaii and you want to purchase a sim card over here and it is not 5G compatible - check first that it will work as several GSM frequencies have been switched off in the USA. My Moto g7 power and E7 power that are no older than 2 years and 1 year respectively and are both 4G compatible will not accept AT&T – Boost or Mobile-T sim cards/plans. Use the websites to check compatibility first – so wish I had. I thoroughly recommend this hotel for your next stay in waikiki.

This boutique hotel is great! The building has been maintained in its late 50’s, early 60’s style. There’s definitely an equine theme throughout, and it tastefully interacts with the existing interior designs. The beds are very comfortable, the rooms are clean, and all of the staff are exceptionally (and genuinely) friendly. The location is perfect to take advantage of being downtown without being right in the middle of the noise and hubbub of the mega hotels. It’s a ten minute walk from the front door to Ala Moana center, and five minutes the other direction to Mc Donald’s. The bar offers well poured drinks as well as great sandwiches. Both bar tenders are extremely friendly, accommodating, and take great pride in their craft. When we arrived, we were checked in by Lincoln who exemplifies the aloha spirit, and awesome personalized customer service. The general vibe of this hotel is amazing. I would highly recommend The Equus Hotel to anyone who wants to get away from the sterile corporate Honolulu hotels that surround it, and have a memorable experience.

My trip to Hawaii was solo and last minute. The Equus had room for me and was in a perfect location. I would almost use the word quaint, but it doesn’t do the hotel justice. It is a small lovely welcoming hotel in the midst of giant buildings. I didn’t have to wait in a long line <cough Hilton cough> to check in, I paid for parking and it was always available for me, and my room was clean and smelled nice. I don’t have a single complaint and will try to stay again in the future. My son lives a mile north of the Equus so I am certain I will return.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We love going above and beyond for our guests. It's so cool that you got to check out a polo match at our sister property on the North Shore! That's one of the perks of staying at The Equus - free polo tickets! As Waikiki's last family-owned and operated boutique hotel, we appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you again.
