Built in 1927, The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, Waikiki is an iconic resort hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii that ushered in a new era of luxurious resort travel to Hawaii.

Loved the hotel. Check in ways great and loved the location. I am titanium for life and got an upgrade and the room was very nice and ocean view with a balcony. Also received coupons for breakfast. Everyone in the hotel is very professional and nice. It’s nice to be in a smaller hotel and when you look at the Sheraton next door and how huge it is it makes you appreciate this “boutique” hotel. This is my new favorite hotel in Oahu.
Really an amazing hotel. Great service. Front desk receptionist (mark or alex or david I think) was exceptionally nice and helpful (even though I was a little annoyed at a few covid related restrictions). Really an awesome property. Thank you!!!
I love historic hotels so, we booked here with the expectation we wouldn’t stay for our whole trip. We were so happy we chose to stay here for our entire trip. The hotel is almost 100 years old and has details newer buildings do not have. The common spaces: lobby, shops, restaurants, gardens, beach... are all well maintained. Our room was a suite. A nice room with separate living room with beautiful views of one of the courtyards and the ocean. The furnishings and fixtures were lovely. The bathroom was well done, but smaller than you’d find in a newly built hotel but for me that was fine and part of the charm of it all. This charm was also seen in the staff. 90% of the time we spoke to staff, I was shocked by how friendly they were. They went out of their way and remembered us even a day or to later. Only one cafe/bar was open but the food was good and right on the beach. The hotel seemed to be away from the others, but it was actually close to everything. We rented a car from the hotel next door when we drove to the North Shore. We could walk a few blocks to many shops and more restaurants. The hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport and 25 minutes from Pearl Harbor. We loved it here and will be back within the next year. …
Sad that the Royal Hawaiian isn’t using paper straws. The straws they are using are definitely not ocean animal friendly. :( I love this iconic spot, but urge them to be more enviro friendly. Please change this!
My family and I visited Hawaii for the first time and at the suggestion of one of those guidebooks, we decided to spend 5 days at the Royal Hawaiian. It's a Marriott property, so I was extra excited to rack up the points. I'll just go ahead and get the "cons" out of the way first. The reviews on this site mentioned that the Historic rooms are older and somewhat worn down. So, we chose the Mailani Tower to get the modern, updated rooms. Beautiful place all around. Like the grounds are lush, colorful, and immaculate. The Mailani tower has more modern furniture for sure. However, our rooms had been "rode hard and put away wet." Considering the normal amount of tourists that come, I can see how that could happen pretty quickly. Like our very nice sink had cracks with brown stains, the Japanese toilet ran all night long, the shower/tub was narrow and holiday inn-ish. The balcony facing the ocean with a couch and a small table was kinda awesome though. Ok, we got that out the way. So, just know that you're not going here to enjoy a very luxurious room. We extended our stay because the location cannot be beat, the staff is outstanding, and the food and drinks are very good. Everyone from the front desk, to management, to the bell desk/valet, housekeeping, the breakfast attendants, and the bartenders at Mai Tai bar really took an effort in getting to know my family and me and making our stay super relaxing and super memorable. We have so many fantastic, heartwarming photos from our stay on this property. The Mai Tai bar has the best drinks and bartenders in the area. We were treated like VIP every day, and didn't want to leave. The Mailani tower comes with free breakfast and two free drinks and apps in the evenings. The location is walkable to other restaurants offsite, the nail salons, luxury stores. As soon as they update those rooms, this will be a 100% 5 star stay. Also, the coffee shop was closed. So, I had to walk to the Sheraton Starbucks or the Honolulu Coffee down the street in the wee hours of the morning because I was teleworking on EST. Thank you for everything!…
