Stayed in Autumn View cabin. Views from the cabin, deck and sitting in the hot tub are excellent. Great place for romantic getaway. Cabin is quite secluded. Driveway is steep and choppy as other reviewers have stated.
Beautiful, private, REAL log cabin tucked away on the top of a mountain, completely secluded from any other cabins, houses, or people. Breathtaking view of the Shenandoah mountains and valley. The owner, David Foster, was a dream to work with and made every effort to ensure that our stay was wonderful and relaxing. The only downside was that when we arrived Friday, there was another couple in our cabin that messed up the cabin numbers; David unlocks the door for you on your day of arrival so that you don’t have to go anywhere to pick up or drop off keys. So just be sure you are at the right cabin before unpacking and going in! Definitely not Mr. Foster’s fault, he gives explicit directions upon booking and the cabin numbers are clearly marked. After calling him, he quickly fixed this issue and we were able to start our weekend (he even offered to come re-clean our cabin, but the other couple had only been there for a short while and I didn’t think that was necessary). It was everything I dreamed a mountain view cabin in the woods would be, all the fun and majesty of the outdoors around you with the luxuries of home. My favorite part was just soaking in that hot tub for hours, getting lost in the view and the fresh mountain breeze. We cooked most of our food on the grill which was fantastic. We only left once during the day Saturday to go on some hikes off of Skyline Drive, as I’m a Virginia National Park pass-holder. For anyone looking for a romantic, remote, Shenandoah vacation away from the stress of life, Autumn View Chalet is your place! Thank you David!…
My wife and I just needed a anniversary gift to ourselves.. We couldn't have felt more off the grid while still having electric and water. This was a perfect getaway. We would do it again in a heart beat.
My husband and I have been on our fair share of spontaneous getaways involving a hopefully beautiful and natural setting along with a comfortable stay, but I have to say this cabin, view and ownership takes the cake. You mid as well be knocking on heavens door to have a chance to rent this natural at home getaway. Not to mention, the ownership assured that we knew exactly where to go if our GPS was not updated and upon our arrival the cabin was plowed, spotless and even had food in the pantries and fridge that were so kindly left for us. Whither it had been left from the prior renters or from the owners, it was still a pleasant surprise. Needless to say, this place is magical and the ownership is top notch. I will tell everyone I know to come here!
My husband and I were looking for a nice, quiet place to escape our busy lives. First of all, the owner was extremely nice when taking our reservation. He did fail to mention that we needed to bring our own linens. Luckily, there is a Walmart semi close. The cabin itself is definitely secluded and the views are beautiful, but..... several light fixtures were not working, we were never able to get the hot tub to work (even after a phone call to the owner). He never called back to check on it. Furniture looks like it's just leftovers from gram's house and not specifically purchased for the house. Parts of the "driveway" really need to be smoothed over as it's extremely rutty. Overall an OK plance but could definitely use some TLC. Doubt we'll be back.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. **Please read till the end**..... Unfortunately, there wasn't much to rave about at this cabin. First of all, way OVER PRICED. There is valuable information that the owners do not disclose. Don't go unless you have an AWD or a 4WD vehicle, especially if you go after it rains, because you will not get up the steep driveway. It rained the night before we went and the owner, who knew we were arriving that day, DID NOT fill in the big pot holes from where the mud washed away so we could get up to the cabin so we had to park our car at the bottom of the mountain. We called him and he did come and shuttle us and all our gear up the mountain to the cabin. Told us that he would have someone come the next day to fill in the holes. Hmmm...guess he couldn't have done that ahead of time. Upon entering the cabin, there were a ton of dead lady bugs all over the deck, he mentioned that there was a lady bug issue there but that they treated the house. Too much trouble to clean them all up I guess so they just left all the dead lady bugs all over the porch. Opened the door to the cabin, walk in and guess what, dead lady bugs in the corners and all under the windows. Guess it was too much to sweep those up too. Oh, its gets better. No water, oops, there it goes cold water, no hot water. Called him, he told my husband to go under the cabin and flip the switch to the hot water heater to turn the hot water on, must have lost power and shut itself off. Nope, not happening, told him he needed to come back. He did. We expressed to him how unhappy we were with the situation of not being able to get up the mountain and dead lady bugs and no hot water, etc. We were going to leave but had already driven 5 hours to get there and were tired so decided to stay in hopes things would get better. Nope, time for bed, discovered that both of the beds, the one in the downstairs bedroom and upstairs had severely beaten up mattresses, all of the springs were broken and each time you moved the beds made these squeaky terrible noises. No sleep that night for any of us. Next day, got up and walked down mountain to go to breakfast, came back, road still not fixed so parked at bottom of mountain and hiked the mile uphill back to the cabin. Around 4pm, road to cabin was covered in and we were able to get our car up to the cabin so we could leave the next morning. Slept on couches that night as bed was just too uncomfortable. Left Mr. Foster a long note explaining our disappointment in hopes that he would man up and do the right thing. As of this date, he has not and we are thinking that he won't. There are quite a few cabins in this area that he runs "Rustic Cabins", and I am sure that they are all the same. Please save yourself from all of this and spend your money elsewhere, you will be thankful that you did!!!…
My family enjoyed staying at these cabins for a weekend getaway. Everything was clean and the space was very welcoming. I even left my bathing suits at the cabin and the owners were nice enough to mail them back to me at no charge to me.
Beautiful cabin, amazing view and wonderful owner. We first visited about 10 years ago, the cabin has only gotten better. Everything is clean and functional. The couch is cozy. The sunset views show you many amazing colors of nature and why the blue ridge mountains are just that. We arrived at night, walking out of the bedroom the next morning actually gave me pause looking through the great room windows to the mountains. I am a Rockies girl through and through but found this awe inspiring nonetheless. You are "deep" enough in the mountains to feel nature but close enough to scoot into town for some sight seeing or to grab a bite. Although you do not have to leave the cabin to have a great time - it truly has all that you need. Highly recommend 55 East Main Grill and Brew House - great vibe, beer and people and Uncle Bucks for a more ''traditional" diner experience (the waitresses will make you smile). The owner of Starlit View is an extremely wonderful man, he cares about his properties and genuinely wants you to have a good time. Easy booking, easy check in and check out. Memories happen on their own when our souls live, however Starlit view grants the serenity and beauty to make them great vivid memories.…
Had a wonderful time in Luray! The cabin was nice and clean. Kitchen stocked with everything you would need to cook and clean. Nice view. Situated in the perfect location within minutes to attractions and stores. Plan on returning next year!
Where shall I begin…. In an effort to spare you from you reading a book I’ll bullet my experience: • Upon walking in the first thing that hit me was the smell. Moldy, wet, dank, dirty. • The couch is threadbare and dirty. I actually would not sit on it without a sheet. • The curtains are stained and dirty. • The wall AC’s did not work in two of the rooms. • The soak-in tub was stained and dirty. • The dishes were put back in the cupboard dirty. Actually had food in the pan. They never hit water. • The silverware was dirty. • The kitchen floor was filthy. • The bathroom shower curtain was moldy and dirty. • The hot tub was dirty. • The lawn is unkempt I feel totally ripped off and quite upset about the entire experience. I could not wait to go home to take a shower and be in a clean environment. I emailed and texted the owner and have not had a reply. Not even a sorry. Which is why I am posting.…
