And I'm 65 so 'Best Weekend Ever' is one large statement. Let's start with the food. Two of us are gluten free and Hank prepared one of the best GF breakfasts I've ever had. Not bacon and eggs - way more exciting and delicious. The rooms and the entire house are simply wonderful. The front porch is a special treat, especially at sunset. And not to be outdone by the food or the rooms was the friendship we forged with these two extraordinary men. Hank and Wiley - Thank you for a memorable visit. Until we meet again! This was our first trip to a B&B. We were so pleasantly surprised that our pick really lived up to the reviews and photos. We stayed for two nights and the two breakfasts were so delicious. We came back the first afternoon and there was an unexpected gift of two slices of cake for a snack. It hit the spot and we saved the other slice for an enjoyable nighttime crave on the porch looking at the full moon. The room was clean and perfectly presented. We enjoyed all the little things they did to make the stay memorable. I might have wanted to whisk Bob away!!!! Bob is the lovable Frenchie!!!
What a wonderful hidden gem in Luray! From the moment we stepped on the front porch, we felt right at home. Wiley and Hank thought of every last detail to make our stay the best it could be. The food was delicious and the company even better. We so appreciated that they texted us ahead of our stay with a dining recommendation so we could be sure to get reservations. They had great suggestions about places to hike and things to see in Luray. We will definitely go back!
My husband and I booked the Hurley Byrd Cottage for three days to celebrate our 43rd anniversary. We had an absolutely wonderful stay! Hank and Wiley have made sure that they take care of any want or need that you might have in a cottage. It was so cozy and very nicely decorated. We loved the views all around the cottage, and even though it was a horribly hot week, we still were able to eat our delicious breakfasts on the screened in porch. I seriously can't think of one thing that I would change. We definitely hope to get back to this little gem to spend another very relaxing few days.Show less
Okay, let me tell you about one of the most adorable places I've ever stayed -- Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast. I must admit, when I saw all these amazing reviews I thought to myself "could this be true?" Well, who feels super silly that they ever, for one second, doubted the authenticity of these amazing reviews. Let's start with the hosts: Hank & Wiley. First, can you get a more adorable set of humans? I think not. Second, do I feel like they are my new idols? Yes. If I had the hospitality of Hank and the baking skills of Wiley I would be an unstoppable human. Food: Okay, so possible con (not really) I gained 10 extra pounds during my long weekend but I have absolutely no regrets. Everything that comes out of that kitchen is the most delicious think I've ever eaten. Continuing con (again, not really), I got the Piney Hill B&B Recipe Book so I can try (poorly) to replicate these recipes and continue to sabotage my diet. We stayed in the Hurly Bird cottage and breakfast was brought to us in a picnic basket each morning. There was so much thoughtfulness and care put into everything I can't fully express it in words. Also, during some days there would be a knock at the door and a SURPRISE treat would appear. Things to Do: We did the Luray Caverns -- definitely don't miss that. We hiked Stony Man Trail to an incredible mountain view (very easy hike for an inexperienced hiker, or a more experienced hiker full of baked goods) in Shenandoah National Park . We ate at some good restaurants (Moonshadow is a must go to). And we went to some wineries with good wine and killer views (Cross Keys and Chester Gap should be on your list). When we weren't gorging ourselves, we were in a gorge (get it, valley? sorry bad joke) enjoying the beautiful mountain views and cows/bulls. There is a handy book with all kinds of ideas and tips to help you plan your days. The cottage was spotless and very comfortable. The hosts are in no way intrusive but available when needed. They even went out of their way to say goodbye to us when we left this little piece of picture perfect countryside to travel back up to the not so picture perfect New Jersey. Book a stay here and I promise you will be so happy. Also, we got the romance package which included the most perfect charcuterie board, roses, wine glasses, chocolate covered strawberries, the recipe book (definite need), and passes to the Luray Cavern.…
