Stayed for 12 nights in the Lewis cottage and 1 night in the hotel. The cottage was very nice and would work just fine for a short stay for a family. The pool is literally right behind the cottages which are situated behind and up slope from the hotel. I would recommend speaking directly with someone at the hotel when booking as I believe that the cottages very in size, bath layout, etc. The Lewis Cottage has a two person table in the living/dining area and two queen beds. The shower is in a jetted tub with a very high side and no grab bar, so this could very well be inaccessible to older people. Housekeeping was different each day, but usually made the bed and removed the trash and actually washed a plate and glass in the sink on more than one occasion. They did forget me entirely on one day which was not a huge issue as I was staying alone and had adequate towels, etc. I needed to stay one day more than was planned and even though they were very busy that weekend they were able to give me in a very small room in the Inn itself. The room was very compact but perfectly adequate for my needs. The resident manager and the inn staff were friendly and efficient and I appreciated their efforts to accommodate me. I have stayed at a number of historic hotels and this one has been nicely updated and is very well maintained. I ate one evening at the Speakeasy and it was very good with friendly staff. I did sit on the porch of the Inn one evening which had a lovely mountain view. The entire stay was very quiet and relaxing. There is a hospital next door behind a tree line out of view and a rescue/ambulance service, but they seem to be very careful to not use their sirens when approaching the area. I would recommend the Inn for a nice weekend stay as a couple and the cottages for a short family trip.

We stayed this past weekend at the Mimslyn for a murder mystery weekend. We rented the Hawksbill Cottage, which was just steps to the quiet cottage pool. The cottage has a great front porch with a fan, a small kitchenette and table, a single bunkbed, and a large bedroom with king size bed. The cottage also features a private, fenced-in hot tub on the side deck. The cottage was clean and private. The only issue we encountered was the shower (which actually appeared to be new) leaked from the bottom, so we had to lay towels around it in order to keep from the floor getting soaked. This certainly wasn't a huge deal for us, but more so something that should be noted with maintenance. We would stay in this cottage again as it was a quick walk to the pool and the main Inn while still being surrounded by beautiful trees, giving it a little private hideaway vibe. It also had a private parking spot! The murder mystery weekend, hosted by Keith and Margo's murder mystery, was an absolute blast! The food was delicious and the servers were so kind and helpful. We are looking forward to another escape to the Mimslyn in the near future!

This was our first time staying at the Mimslyn Inn, we attended a murder mystery weekend. Pleased with the cottage, had a kitchenette and a big bathroom, 2 queen beds and a small living room with a small fireplace. Would of preferred a king size bed but that was not an option. If eating at the restaurant, get the venison meatloaf, best thing on the menu! Dinner price was very reasonable from what we are used to in the DC metro area. The staff was very friendly and responsive to our needs. The town is quaint and they have a very nice walking bath along the creek! Keith and Margo’s murder mystery weekend was a lot of fun, would recommended to friends and family.

My family stayed here for just one night but we hope to return! The staff was very friendly, our room was large and we had a nice meal in the hotel restaurant. The place is lovely, especially if you enjoy historic inns as we do. I am sure we will be back!

My daughter and I stayed one Sunday night during a summer road trip. Our stay was the perfect storm of factors that contributed to a very blah experience. First, from our late afternoon check-in until after dinner, there was not a soul around the Inn other than the girls at the front desk, which gave it a creepy feeling. Second, it was a rainy day and we were put in a room with windows under the portico but whole Inn was very very dark, contributing to the creepy feeling. The restaurants were closed which was very disappointing and the coffee and small, processed muffins they provide in the morning (you must go down to the lobby) are just a sad consolation. We weren’t expecting a 5-star experience but the Inn is tired and could use some all around updating. I wouldn’t stay there again.

First, the Mimslyn Inn is very nicely organized and laid out. Our room large enough, the water pressure in the shower was low, the bed - most comfortable, furniture was nice and properly sized to the room, amenities nice and towels soft. The physical aspects were a four. Not the St. Francis (a 5) but quite nice for Luray, VA. The desk and maintenance and restaurant serving staffs were very good - friendly, personable, professional and just nice people. They were great, helpful and personable to a fault. However, when something as important as food is not good, there is nothing else that no mater how good everything else is, will improve the lowest score. The lowest score wipes everything else out, no matter how good. Mimslyn says they cannot open their restaurants fully. They are partially open, as they cannot hire people to staff them. However, there are a number of very good restaurants in the smallish town of Luray which are quite good and staffed well. I rated Mimslyn at a three for the food in the Speakeasy lounge. I ordered Jaeger (Hunter) Schnitzel there, a dish prepared of meat (pork, veal or game usually) served with a hunter sauce, flavored with mushrooms. In Germany where it originated and US restaurants I am familiar with that serve it . This sauce is flavorful and actually makes the dish delicious. I was stationed with the US Army in Germany in the 70’s and my wife and I have travelled there many times since. I know what good Jaeger Schnitzel should taste like. I also know what bad Jaeger Schnitzel tastes like. That served in the Mimslyn Speakeasy lounge was not flavorful or good. It was bland, in that it had absolutely no flavor. It was buried in mashed potatoes that tasted as if they came from a box. Not good, not even buttery, salty, sweet or any other flavor. Bland. I could not distinguish between the meat or the potato. The hotel is really quite nice. It exudes character. But, I can only give the overall rating that matches that of the lowest score.

My family recently stayed in the White Oak cottage at the Mimslyn Inn while traveling to Shenandoah National Park. This is by far the nicest hotel in the area. The cottage was in pristine condition and very comfortable. We will be staying again the next time we are in the area.

We stayed for two nights at the Mimslyn Inn in April of 2022 on a visit to Shenandoah National Park. We are parents and an adult son and daughter-in-law, so we took two adjoining rooms. The Inn is a nice hotel with hints of grandeur, in an excellent location for visiting Shenandoah and the other local sights. It has two restaruants, one in the lobby and one on a lower floor, but this was a Covid era visit, so we didn't try either of them, instead choosing to order dinners from nearby restaruants and eating in our room, which was a suite and so had a dining table and chairs. The staff was helpful, if businesslike and not overly friendly. The rooms were well furnished, in a turn of the century style fitting, I suppose, with the style of the Inn. Bathrooms were more modern and quite nice. If there were other amenities to the hotel, we didn't see or make use of them.

Stopped here for one night with a restaurant combo. Enjoyed our stay. Off season and a weeknight was not crowded. Nice fire going and quite homey. Had a suite which was very large, even the bathroom. Bed was good and room clean. In room heat/air a tad noisy cycling on and off was the only minor issue but just turned it off as the room was warm enough. Coupled with a great dinner at the Speakeasy restaurant made for a nice convenient stop.
