whenever we go to San Antonio we stay here. If you like history you must check this place out. Walking distance to riverwalk as well. Nice little restaurant and bar also inside this hotel. Parking can be a little challenging, but staff is very helpful.
My wife and I had an EXTREMELY pleasant stay in this hotel!! The visit to San Antonio was great! The staff at the Sheraton really took care of us! They really made us feel so welcomed and part of their family!!! Because of our Diamond membership status we were upgraded to the presidential suite and WOW! We had so much room!!! My excitement upon entering the presidential suite just BLEW my mind!!!! Even the outside door decor was special apart from the normal rooms!!The room itself was SUPER clean!! The lobby and concierge lounge looked a lot more modern than the room itself and it was so extremely clean and smelled great!! The location is GREAT! We were able to walk to the riverwalk and a Mexican market nearby. Being the middle of the summer, it was hot but doable. They offered valet service but there is also a public parking garage directly across the street that charges $10 a night (no in-and-out privilege). At dinner time, they had some light appetizers in the concierge lounge where they also granola bars and a fridge stocked with drinks. They also had a pool table and an open conference room for your use! Overall, we had a nice time in San Antonio and the Sheraton made us feel special with our room and it’s special door. 10/10 would stay here again! THANK YOU to the staff!!!!…
This property is a good, solid hotel in a great location for all of the attractions in restaurants in downtown San Antonio. It’s an older property, but they clearly do everything they can to maintain it, to keep everything working and to keep it clean. While I had a few challenges upon arrival, including a less than pleasant interaction with one of the contract valet attendants and a room that was flooded by the air conditioning, the front desk staff went above and beyond to make sure that not only was I taken care of, but walked away happy. The front desk team was consistently friendly, happy and welcoming as well as the morning team in the restaurant. I look forward to my next visit.
This historic hotel is so close to many downtown San Antonio attractions. My wife and I stayed at the Sheraton Gunter Hotel to be close to a river parade along the San Antonio River. Our room was fabulous and access to the 2nd floor lounge was a bonus. This is our favorite downtown San Antonio hotel.
Old hotel which gets to its strengths and weaknesses. Location is a short block towards the north end of the riverwalk. The building is very solidly built and therefore limited to no noise from room to room, unlike all newer hotels with thin walls. The decor is dated, and some things are needing maintenance. The AC was fairly noisy and did impact my first nights sleep. So-so on whether I'd return or not.
Stayed for a few nights on business this summer. The hotel is historic, and largely in good shape. Room plenty sufficient for my needs. I was a bit surprised about the immediate surrounding area. Mix of desolate and sketchy.
We stayed for one night over the Halloween weekend and loved it. The staff was friendly; the room and especially the bed with lots of pillows, very comfortable; the bar welcoming and the bartenders friendly; the breakfast buffet nothing special but the food was good and again, friendly staff. Our only disappointment was with the restaurant, which didn't have a great menu - very average. Luckily San Antonio has amazing restaurants everywhere, so we didn't suffer. Thank you to the Gunter Hotel for making our stay so enjoyable. Oh, and we didn't notice or smell any mold at all.
Staff very friendly, but to add onto the smell of mold from other reviews, I would have to agree there was a distinct moldy smell upon arrival. We smelled it in the hallway and in our room the first night, and it dissipated after that (we stayed two nights). Beautiful hotel, our room was clean, nice, beds and pillows 5 starts, and in no need of renovations. Doors throughout the hotel are older, but I saw it as a part of the charm for an older hotel. As for the bars and restaurant, they close too early. Seems a lot of things close around midnight leaving anyone coming back to the hotel with difficult to find resources for anything to drink or eat. Would stay here again as it has a good proximity to the walk and the Alamo, but would also bring food to keep in the room for anything late night.…
If you sensitive to mold, stay away. The rooms are filthy and air vents spit out unknown black dust. They try to cover up the smell with perfume, you will get a bad headache and cough if you stay there long enough. Staff members start giving you attitude if you complain about the room. They obviously learn that from the management.
Stayed three nights at the property. Staff - Friendly. One Team Member Nicholas Villegas, made the entire stay above average. He provided great customer service in a sincere friendly manner. Can't say enough about the service he provided and made out stay a 4 star rating. Room - comfortable. Bed very comfortable and room quiet. Slept well. The TV was a bit of a problem during our stay requiring to hit the reset button on the back each time you tried turning it on. Bathroom - In need of remolding. Minimum counter space. Toilet very old and grungy but worked well. Facility - Overall very clean and acceptable. This would not be my first choice but it was ok.
