My girlfriend and I are always looking for historic inns/hotels to experience. We search out the oldest and the creepiest and the most historically authentic places we can find and The Stephen Daniels House was exactly what we were looking for. It's loaded with antiques and hidden stairways and your innkeeper, Kay, will have a story to go with every...

We were referred to Kay by a couple we met during our vacation and were delighted that she had an availability. Our plan was to stay there and take the train into Boston for the Fourth of July. It was perfect. With only a 25 min train ride, it is very convenient for anyone who doesn't want to deal with...

This B&B is almost like staying and sleeping in the House of the Seven Gables because of its authenticity, charm, elegance, and antiquity. Kay Gill bends over backward to make her guests feel comfortable and at home. Rooms are gorgeous and decorated to the exact period---17th century Colonial America. Beds are comfy and the entire atmosphere make one feel like...

I have to say this was the most beautiful, appealing, affordable, comfortable, ideally located place to stay with possibly the most history attached to this house converted into a bed and breakfast. The owner Kay is a lovely lady with some very interesting stories about the town of Salem. She certainly knew a lot about the history of the home...

If you are easily creeped out and want a restful night of sleep, you may want to try somewhere else. However, if you like the idea of sleeping in an old museum of antiques from the 1600's, perhaps give this at least one night and take a memory home that any other hotel/b&b would pale in comparison to. I am...

Our stay at the Daniel's House was absolutely amazing. Every room holds new surprises. We checked in about 7 O'Clock, planning on venturing back out into Salem. However, we were so enthralled that we spent the rest of the evening and the next morning exploring the house and visiting with Kay. As far as the negative reviews are concerned, DON'T...

I've been traveling to Salem yearly for past dozen years. Normally I stay at the Morning Glory...a most excellent place. But, I was intrigued by the Daniels House and how it looked like it would offer an authentic experience. The first time I called the woman on the phone said they were all booked for that weekend, but that she'd...

If you are traveling to Salem, this is the place to stay. The house is magical, it's a walk back into history, it's charming, authentic, it's the real deal. Save the hotels for another time....... Beautiful, authentic, historic B&B...no purple ropes as in museums...here you can touch stuff from the 1600's. I recommend the Rose Room (find the secret journal...and check out the hiding place for messages in the fireplace!)...find all the staircases...7...or is it 8 (grin)...find the secret room! Greet the marvelous hostess, Kay and hear about antiques and touch them..those in use in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The home was converted to a restaurant and inn in 1945 by the Hallers. Current owner Catherine Gill, affectionately known as Kay, purchased the inn in 1962 and has proudly served as innkeeper and caretaker during 49 years . Making us Salem's oldest running Bed&Breakfast! Upon entering the home one is immediately enthralled by the sheer number of antiques and collectibles that cover most every conceivable nook and cranny. Antique pottery next to historic English puppets, laced with cross-stitch art works, majestic portraits, antique toys and so much more. A life time of Kay's world travels and collecting. It is an eclectic feast for the senses. The home itself is a living museum where guests can take a step back in time as they touch and see, feel and explore and get a true sense of the history and romance that abounds throughout the entire home. Our goal is focused on providing you with an enjoyable and memorable experience and not merely a comfortable place to relax and rest your head. We may not be Salem's most modern inn but we are the most unique! Our suites are furnished with period four poster canopy beds and decorated with genuine antiques. There are no velvet ropes here! If history and ambiance is what you seek than the Daniels House is the place to stay. Come and meet your hosts Kay Gill and Robin McDonald. Enjoy our complimentary continental breakfast of fresh baked muffins, juice, cereals, coffee, teas and pleasant conversation. Child and pet friendly. Thank you for visiting and hope to meet you at the Inn.Owner and operator for over 49 years Kay. ... more   less
