The Golden Hotel combines a nice place to stay with a reasonable price. We arrived planning on staying in/paying for one their standard rooms at ~$75, but got upgraded after we discovered the room we were assigned had been smoked in by the previous guest against the rules. They were gracious and accommodating! WE really appreciated the staff! The upgraded...

My husband and I stayed here and we ended up leaving. I thought I heard something outside my door I look threw. The peep hole to see the owner lady sniffing around my door. Which me and my husband don't even smoke. The next day me and hubby were sitting at a table in the lobby I guess someone had...

We don't normally stay in old hotels, but we had a good night here. The room was quiet with a comfortable bed. We were offered a remodeled room on the second floor, but chose a first floor room. It was dated with 70s paneling and dropped ceiling, but it was clean and in pretty good repair. The window had been...

yes nostalgic historic dingy hotel with no amenities. The room was small and could use some paint, wish they actually would try and restore it to closer to original and make it more like a hostel. They could have staff at desk, around checkin and checkout times they could offer a light breakfast to compete with other hotels in area,...

We stayed at the Golden in a last-minute change of plans and were crossing our fingers because of the bad reviews. We didn't check in till 10:30pm but the desk attendant was polite and friendly- even asking if we needed help with the luggage (we're not young and there's no elevator). The room is spotless with no odor and the...

We traveled to O’Neil for a family reunion, and choose to stay at the historic hotel. The rooms were clean, but dated. The lobby was very nice, and the laundry facilities were handy to have next door. The problem was the owner’s son who partied with his friends outside of our room after the coming back from the bar. We...

We rented 9 rooms for three days for my fathers memorial over the weekend. The rooms were dated but very clean. The problem is nobody was ever at the counter and keys, including copies of ours were on the counter for anybody to take. Both Friday and Saturday night the front lobby was vacant with a sign that said to...

I've stayed here before and would again. Compared with the Super 8 or Holiday Inn Express, the Golden is much quirkier and full of character. Not for everyone. If you want the pool and predictably decorated rooms of a chain, go with the other. The Golden has unique rooms, nicely done and NOT cookie cutter from room to room. Extremely...

We stopped here one night on our way to South Dakota with a group of friends. Al Capone stayed here back in the day, and you can imagine what this place once looked like. The outside of the hotel as well as the lobby are pretty well in tact. The marble staircase hints at times gone by, but once you...
