I needed somewhere to stay for a night near Benmore. Countrytime seemed to be a good price and looked OK in photos. My expectations were of a 70s or 80s hotel; comfortable, clean, but a bit out of date. I should have lowered my expectations.

There is nothing memorable about this hotel. It appears to get most of its guests from people using the glider facilities at the nearby airport. Other than gliding the immediate area has little to offer, but it is a relatively inexpensive hotel in a high cost area. We chose to stay there the night before we flew the Grand Traverse...

Would not stay here again Very old and not looked after. Had no hot water and when asked about it, the staff said "oh yeah it get's a bit finicky when it is cold". The temp was 15 degrees. The hand basin was in the room and not the bathroom. The toilet was from the 60's. Looks nice from the...

It was our first time in NZ, thanks we visited more places than this, otherwise I would feel much different about this wonderful country. The hotel was totally outdated, the room quite shabby, and dirty, everything in there was, we couldn't lock our rooms door, very uncomfortable bed for two... There was mould everywhere in the toilet, hair on the...

The place is dated on the inside and does need some investment. Re-carpeting and a paint job would make a huge difference. But, it has character, it's not a grey coloured box like so many are. But it is what it is and you can't get better for the price. I judge accommodation on quality of sleep, cleanliness and staff....

We stayed here for one night on our way from Christchurch to Te Anau. Ideally we would have liked to stay at lake Tekapo or Twizel, but nothing was available there. It's a very old hotel and staff is trying to maintain it, but it surely needs an upgrade. It has restaurant offerring breakfast and dinner buffet, but better skipped...

Once was grand but now needs a compete refurb! The breakfast had no gluten free options aside from the fruit but we did appreciate the cook offering to make some poached eggs. Service friendly enough but for a place that is in a very unique location it could do with stepping out of the 1980's, either re-service or tidy up...

Beds are sinking - when you sleep 2 in a double you fall on each other. + the room was right above generator (?) system on left side of entrance. Ask to avoid these room on that side if you want to enjoy the birds singing noise and not a constant generator noise.
