How on earth this motel gets a 4 star rating on TripAdvisor and Booking.com is beyond me! The room is old and dated....in dire need of TLC and is inundated with sand flies. At $150 a night through Booking.com....this is the most overpriced accommodation we have had in four weeks in New Zealand. We arrived at 3.15pm (check-in time 2pm!)...

Stayed here for one night. Room spacious and spotless. Kitchenette facilities really good. So quiet too as about 500 metres from the small hamlet/the main highway. We got pizzas from the Cow Shed as takeaways - they were very good. Also take a look in the Museum, free but leave a donation. This is full of old memorabilia and history...

Stayed here as an alternative because the road north of Kaikoura was closed following the November 2016 earthquake. Room was clean but had that typical motel air freshener smell which I don't like. Quiet location away from the main road and great on site parking (plenty of space between cars). Room itself was OK (room 5), perhaps a bit tight...

Awful, room smelt, bed had dirty sheets, manager was rude when we mentioned this. We saw him yelling at other visitors from overseas, when they asked about rooms.he said he was sick of people thinking they could just get a room by turning up

We stayed at the Mataki on the way from Abel Tasman to Wanaka. It's clean and comfortable, but not fancy. It has excellent wifi, which can be rare in NZ. It's also a short walk or drive into town for dinner, breakfast or anything you need.

The room was clean but rather small. So small there was no room for a sink. I had to fill a wash bowl from the shower and wash pots in there. A novel experience. On the edge Murchison but an easy walk into the town centre, where there were only two places for an evening meal, the backpacker pizzeria or...

We booked the Mataki Motel as our original plan to drive from Christchurch to Picton was stopped by the November earthquake. It is a clean and tidy motel with small kitchenette and shower room. Just what you need for a night's stopover.

The good news - Lovely and quiet , comfy bed and great shower. The bad news - NO RED WINE GLASSES and Shampoo. A bit dear for Murchison but that's life. I don't think we'd stay there again as next time we would just go right through to Blenheim and stay there.

Helpful and friendly staff. Nice clean rooms over looking farmland. Reasonably priced - perfect for an overnight stay. We were driving between Christchurch and Picton. When we arrived we were walking distance of the local pub where we had and enjoyable dinner.

We had a very comfortable overnight stay here. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Check in and out was very efficient. It's located just a short walk from the main street of Murchison where there are a couple of bars, restaurants and supermarkets. All in all a good choice for an overnight stop or longer for the...
