#3 of 9 in Zafra

An extraordinary hotel, the most delightful it has been our pleasure to visit. Not for you if you want flunkies to polish shoes but yes if you want elegance and beauty. This is the former late XIXC town house of a Spanish grandee with a classic square design with an open centre and the few rooms off the landings above. Beautiful views of the small town of Zafra from the roof terrace. There were only ever one or two staff in the hotel during our February visit. All of the three reception staff we met were extremely good, pleasant with quite adequate English and helpful on arrival directing us to a parking space available nearby. There were no staff at night but the sister hotel is manned - or indeed womanned - and we were able to contact it easily with the number provided. Breakfast was good but the choice is obviously less than at a much bigger hotel. The glory is however in the decor which delivers the sumptuous ambience. The rooms (we were in 203 {I think} but I there can only be about 12 in total in the hotel) are quite beautiful with period furnishings and painted ceilings. On our floor there is also a lovely sitting room exquisitely furnished.

This stunning old palacio is gorgeous. Our room on the first floor was enormous and the bathroom was bigger than most hotel bedrooms! Very comfortable! Breakfast was OK, with a very helpful waitress and an adequate selection of fruit and breads. The town has no tourist sights but is very fine architecturally and worth a wander.

This a beautiful hotel with lovely decor and very kind understanding staff. The room was beautiful as were the common areas of the hotel. Very conveniently located in town. The courtyard in the hotel is relaxing, and delightful. If we are ever back in Zafra I would consider staying at this hotel again.

Last minute booking and we were positively surprised. Clean and pretty with good service, very friendly staff. They charged extra for the dog and that was not very clear before booking and therefor four out of five.

The building itself & the lovely old traditional rooms are the highlight of this hotel rather than it's food or facilities. Set in a small street (with very limited parking!) close to the centre of Zafra the hotel is fashioned out of a small old Palacio. Our room, on the ground floor was large & comfortable at thsi time of year (Oct) although not sure what it would be like in the middle of summer! Downside was that it was right on the street & we did get woken rather early by passers by. There is a private car park some 200m away in their sister hotel which is not ideal but at least it was safe. Sensible price but the usual rubbish Spanish hotel (buffet) breakfast which is probably best missed, just pop out to one of the nice cafes in the main square!

Room Tip: May be best to ask for a room away from the street in summer.

The hotel is down side streets/one way streets but the Sat nav found it ok. Well worth the visit. A very pleasant place to stay. Great bedroom, friendly staff and a very good breakfast. Street parking available but for a few euros garage parked at nearby sister hotel.

Yes, this is not the easiest hotel to find, as access is via some narrow streets, however, it is worth searching out. Only roadside parking is available, but at the time of our visit it was plentiful. We got a space right outside the property. A beautiful historic building, located just a short walk from the two main squares. We were upgraged to a superior room, which was huge and beautifully decorated. Staff very very friendly, but spoke only limited English. It did not cause us a problem. Definately a great place to stay when visiting Zafra.

Again we parked free on the street about 200 metres away. We'd stayed here twice before, in a first floor room, & greatly enjoyed it, but this time we were given a small room in the attic - the former servants' quarters. Damaged wall-paper, rotting window-frames. Inefficient air-con.The shower-head bracket was broken, but bathroom was large, with twin basins & huge mirrors. Only one upright chair. Finally located the air-con control, almost hidden by the wardrobe. The cold taps ran hot water for almost 5 minutes, owing to a plumbing fault. Sleep was difficult with 12 bright street lamps outside & no curtains. Buffet breakfast was modest & unattractive, with poor, cold coffee. Overall a great disappointment after 2 previous successful stays &, at 105 €, more expensive than the considerably more comfortable Zafra Parador.

Walking into our room was a jaw dropping experience - high ceilings, antiques and amazing décor, with an incredible bathroom. The hotel is within minutes of the old part of town and was very comfortable - both in the bedroom and in the adjoining large communal sitting room. Staff were very helpful and friendly, and contributed to our feeling that we were guests in a grand house rather than a hotel. On the down-side, breakfasts were basic and our room was beginning to appear a little jaded.

Hard to find and even harder to park, having said that we were very pleasantly surprised as to the the interior decor and comfort. Small yet perfect and the staff could not be more attentive. Has a lovely garden walled garden and magnificent views from the roof terrace. The lounge on the first floor is a must to die for and curl up for the day with a good book.
