Enjoy the central location of Los Balcones de Zafra in the central square of the town of Zafra, Badajoz. Rest in the hotel's beautifully restored rooms, with their mix of grand interiors and modern comforts including air conditioning and TV. There are 2 exclusive suites with private lounges, separated by a beautiful seating area with a fireplace, and a patio with arches and marble columns. It has also retained the villa's original impluvium. Later, soak up the sun on the terrace or enjoy a massage. Thank God we only slept there one night, end of July. The hotel is located right on the main square, an old palace, beautiful but the rooms are outdated. Me and my family had booked 3 rooms. We arrived in the afternoon and there were 38 degrees Celsius outside. We got the keys and only after giving our passports, receiving from him nice historic information about the house and Zafra, and getting into our rooms, he then just happened to mention that air conditioning was NOT working. He talked like if it would have just broken and therefore he would bring us some fans for each room. I really regret we didn't leave the hotel at that very moment. It was very hot, all of us had a bad sleep and had a bad feeling since he should have mentioned it upfront! The worst is that I've read a review and 2 weeks later it still didn't work! I'm afraid that the hotel just doesn't have A/C and it looked like it wouldn't have heating since I saw on the flow some electric heaters. The worst of all is that opening the windows was not option due to the noise outside until at least 3:00 a.m.The rooms are big but outdated. A couple of lights were hanging out in the bathroom. The TV was far too small for the size of the room. The bathroom was not properly clean.The breakfast was poor. No fresh juice was offered. The breakfast room was dark. The offer for breakfast was just toasted bread, which was tasty but everything to put on top was coming from small cans, nothing fresh (from tomato, to liver spread, ham cream, cheese), low quality. Despite the cheap price I think it's better to find another place, I definitely can't recommend this hotel. I haven't rated it as terrible because the building itself is beautiful.…

This hotel is situated right on the main square which is lovely and convenient, but parking for us was a problem - there was some festival going on so we had to park about 5 minutes away, which was OK, but we had a car full of stuff so weren't that happy leaving it on the street out of view. The owner was very helpful, although we did have to knock on the door to get in every time. He gave us a brief history lesson and had some strong views about Brexit! Our rooms were on the top floor with a lovely terrace with views over the square, however, it does get very noisy at night so if you had a room on a lower floor you may have been kept awake. There seemed to be a lot of lights which did not work in our room and bathroom, but they were both clean. We had a meal in the restaurant next door which was a little disappointing.…

We made a stopover while driving from Spain to Portugal. Hotel Los Balcones de Zafra is located on the main square of the old town. It is a historic building. The innkeeper explains the details of guests with pride. Unfortunately, the hotel did not come up to our expectations. The rooms on the second floor was equipped with creaky, hard 150 cms wide bed. It was also to small in length for a 6ft tall person. The furniture seems to be a collection from the flea market, has strong signs of use and definite not antiques of any value. The bathroom is completely obsolete and only superficially clean. But the worst was the dirty state of the bath tub which serves as well as shower. W_LAN was unreliable and slow. On the square was noise from the bars until 03:00 AM and when the night owls finally left, the bars disposed the empty bottles in the glass containers. The breakfast room is located in the basement; is small and dark. Breakfast consists of two pieces buns from the day before that are reheated, jam, butter and some servings of low quality liver sausage and cheese. A visit to the hotel's restaurant is not recommended. A better address is the restaurant opposite in the Hotel Plaza Grande. Paid parking is available in front of the hotel. A prospected pleasant stay in a historic building turned out to be a flop. The ill-equipped rooms, the noise until the early morning hours, the dirty bathtub and the miserable breakfast are the reason not to recommend the place.…

This hotel is in the main square, so a great location. The owner is knowledgeable and friendly- he was eager to share the history of his gorgeous house (a 2000 year old Roman villa, beautifully restored), and was equally helpful suggesting places of interest in Zafra. We had a great room (205) overlooking the square, with a small balcony. It's a little faded, but it added to the general ambiance of the place- I loved it. Breakfast was table service, not your usual buffet style self self. A friendly and attentive waiter, fresh toast, fresh juice and coffee- really enjoyed this! However, do make sure that you heed the parking restrictions. You can unload outside the hotel, but you must park elsewhere. Again, the owner is very helpful about this, and none of the locations suggested are more than a few minutes walk away. There was also a private car park with driver service if required at 15 Euros (I think)- but we did not think that this was necessary for our one night stay. We will certainly be back to this hotel and would recommend it.…

A quirky hotel right in the centre of the old town. The owner gave us a very interesting guided tour and a lot of good advice on places of interest and places to eat. Our room was comfortable, clean and with a good bathroom. We had access to the roof terrace overlooking Plaza Grande which was a real bonus. The breakfast was enjoyable and the food in the attached restaurant was simple but very tasty. Parking in the square is possible at around 5 euros per day. Be careful as you can get a parking ticket as you are organising things in the hotel. The owner was very helpful when this happened to us

Fabulous location, fabulous building, friendly service. We had a lovely clean and well appointed room overlooking the square, which on a Saturday night meant very little sleep, but that's hardly the fault of the hotel. Average breakfast, usual 'tostados' and not much else, but that's just the Spanish way. I would recommend this place, but maybe ask for a room at the back if you are there over the weekend and not up for 4am partying!!

Of all the hotels I've stayed in over this holdiay wandering around Spain this hotel has to be one of the best. We pick a spot on the map and head for it - not knowing where we will end up. I picked Zafra. My sense of direction must be good as we ended up in the middle of 2 major Plazas surrounded with bars and restaurants in the middle of the afternoon. The place was deserted - apart from 3 people sat at a table having a beer. Hundreds of empty tables and chairs filled the plazas. I asked them in Spanish why everything was shut, and of course, it's siesta time. The Senor told me that the hotels would open at 1730 or 1800 where we would get a room, as we were tired and wanted a gin and tonic and park the car up. You have to pay for parking (pay & display) - it's cheap but a parking ticket is expensive. So we took a gamble and parked up and had some refreshment and a tapas. By 1700 the world woke up and everyone came out of the woodwork - shops opened, and, much to my relief, the Hotel Balcones. On entering I was given a guided tour of the history of the place and how the arches are identicle to the ones in Pompeii, I think from what I could grasp of the conversation it was designed or built by the same person. When my husband brought in our bags he spoke to me in English of course then the hotelier immediately started speaking in English. I just assumed no-one spoke Spanish. Our room overlooked the Plaza and was very spacious with a huge very comfortable bed. I wouldn't say it was 5 star but just the atmosphere of the whole place lent it to be very memorable. By now the Plazas had started to fill up. The Hotel didn't do evening meals so we asked him to recommend a restaurant. We said we wanted Tapas, so he directed us to a place at the end of the shopping street to a place called La Aubache. I was very impressed with this food. Tapas consisted of gorgonzola cheese on toast topped with locally made fig jam; deep fried aubergines in a light batter with a home-made tomato sauce; the list was endless - my husband's tuna was quickly seared and then marinated in something and was so tender you could cut it with a fork. Yes I'd go back - I'd even make a special effort and I definitely want to go back to that restaurant. We stayed one night at the Hotel Los Balcones de Zafra. The hotel was a great fine! The owner was delightful. The room was clean. The history behind the hotel and what was found recently during the rennovations is super interesting.

I was pleasantly surprised. I had booked a much more expensive place to stay but changed my mind at the last minute and am glad I did. The owner was such a gracious host. He showed us around the hotel and explained its history which made our stay even more enjoyable. Our room had a large balcony that looked over the square. The views were wonderful. On the other side of our room we had views of the castle through the windows. The room was very large & very comfortable. Would definitely stay at this hotel again. Breakfasts was also included in the cost of the room. It was an excellent continental breakfast. The entire staff was extremely nice. Everyone made our stay very pleasant.
