Helios Costa Tropical receives high marks for its spotless accommodations and pristine common areas, with guests consistently lauding its exceptional cleanliness. The hotel’s atmosphere, enhanced by a heated salt pool and live music events, is seen as luxurious, although the volume can detract from conversation. Service at the hotel is often described as welcoming, with staff members earning praise for their attentiveness. While rooms are celebrated for their comfort and sea views, some guests point out minor design issues. The hotel's prime location near the beach and local eateries, along with its perceived value for money, make it a popular choice among travelers.

I have been lucky with hotels recently , however this was a real surprise and really deserves the 5 stars. The hotel is modern and spotlessly clean. The staff are so friendly and all speak good english. The service was excellent even during their happy hour we waited only seconds to get served with drinks arriving within a couple of minutes. The happy hour was fantastic value with a large glass of wine (good quality) for only €1.25 !

There was entertainment each night which was genuine and fun, normally a singer, we also had a Flamenco dance which looked like it was performed by local students which was really excellent.

The outside areas were also spotless with a lovely pool area. My wife and I had lunch there several times. The food was excellent my wife loved their tuna salad, whilst their toasted cheese and ham sandwich with fries was perfect, not greasy and extremely tasty.

Check in was quick and easy and the hotel had three lifts so we never had to wait to get to our room on the 8th floor.

We had Room 805 which was a superior double and it was well worth the extra money. Not only was the size and space excellent , we also had a massive balcony with two sunbeds and chairs and a small table. The view over the promenade and the beach was excellent , we even saw dolphins at play in the sea from our vantage point :) One request would be for some shelving in the bathroom. Housekeeping was excellent and of the very highest standard and I have stayed at some very expensive hotels. There is a good sized fridge in the room which we stocked up from the local supermarket "Mercadona" which was a 2 minute walk.

The hotel is well situated just a short walk from the town centre right on the promenade , they have bikes that you can rent if you wish to cycle. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby our favourite was Dorada de Plata just a five minute walk away. There was no noise at night and we slept well.

Well done to Hotel Helios and your staff , we will be back for sure.

We have just returned from a great holiday in the Helios Costa Tropical. The hotel, recently extensively refurbished, was bright and airy with two great atriums complete with trailing plants and glass floors on the 10th floor roof terrace. The marble landings and staircases were kept spotless by the staff as was our bedroom (with large and very comfortable beds) and bathroom and all the guest facility areas on the ground floor.
The staff in the restaurant couldn’t have been more helpful and the excellent food dishes, whether hot or cold were constantly replenished. There was an extensive choice of food at every meal and, within our 12 days, little repetition. It was a pleasure to arrive for breakfast, lunch or dinner and be met by Robina or Etion with their cheerful greetings. We would definitely look to return to this hotel next January and recommend the hotel for its location too!

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and, again, breakfast excelent, everything you could wish for, hotel staff happy and willing to help with any problems. although we had not included dinner in our payent we had dinner at the Helios after going to outside restaurants for a few night and all I can say is, again, fantastic. The choice was excellent and the staff so helpful and for 13 Euros per head such good value -we had dinner at the hotel every night after. The entertainment in the evening was good except for a couple of acts (the dancing couple and one of the lady singers (could not sing in tune) however all was entrtaining). The room was on the 9th floor and had superb views and was greeted with a bottle of bubbly and cake and strawberries in the room on arrival. The only complaint I had about the room was that the wardrobe was too small for a couple staying for 10 days it was more like a corporate wardrobe intended for a couple of days stay and there was no draw unit or tea/coffee making facilities. The cleaners did a brilliant job and always seemed happy and acknowledged you with "bona dias". We will definately be going back later in the year and would recomend this hotel to all my friends. Thank you staff of the Hellios Hotel for making our stay so nice.

We booked our daughter and young grandson in the hotel for 5 nights and we were very pleased with the cleanliness of the accommodation and all the facilities. The room, 202 was a spacious twin with a beautiful bathroom and a sunny balcony with a partial seaview. Breakfast was included and I did eat with them on a couple of mornings (€10 ). The food was plentiful, lots of choice and constantly refreshed. The only criticism, the toasters were inadequate for the volume of guests and it was always very busy. But the waiting staff always found her a table and were very nice to our grandson. The heated swimming pool is a bonus especially in February and my grandson enjoyed it, but in 5 days we never saw the jacuzzi working. (maybe only working in the summer?) Daughter never ate in the restaurant but she did say the bar snacks looked good and were reasonably priced. We joined her most evenings for the live entertainment, but being off season it was geared up for the older clientele which was fine, and there was plenty of dancing to watch. The drinks were very reasonable and service was excellent but on several occasions the bowls of crisps were stale. The outside terrace is very comfortable on a warm day with lovely sea views. I would certainly recommend this hotel to any visitors.

Just about to leave after a two week break. Wish it was longer! This is a superb hotel for its star rating.

The room we had was a large twin with a seating area and balcony with a partial sea view. It was cleaned thoroughly every day by friendly staff.

The public areas of the hotel were maintained to a high standard and the bar was large and airy. There is a “happy hour” from 6.00pm to 7.00pm. every day when drinks (except cocktails) are two for the price of one, which we made full use of!

We were here on a half board basis with Saga which was breakfast and evening meal with wine and water. All meals were buffet-style and we found there was plenty of choice. My wife is vegetarian, so accepts her choice is more limited but was still pleased with what was available. The restaurant staff were excellent, very friendly and the majority spoke very good English.

The hotel, itself, is in an excellent position right on the sea front. You can walk in either direction along a promenade, lined with bars and restaurants. Even in February, a large number of these were open. There is a stop immediately outside the hotel, where you can catch a bus to the centre of town. From the main bus station, you can catch buses to many destinations including Granada, Malaga and Nerja.

Summing up, this is an excellent hotel in a very good location for an extended holiday. We are thinking of coming for a month next year.

We stayed in a junior suite on the first floor. The room was very nice, clean and modern. Champagne and chocolate brownies were provided on arrival. We found our room a little noisy - we could hear the entertainment downstairs so could never get an early night but it was quiet after 11pm. There was also noise from the street, the worst being a bin lorry that emptied the bottle banks at 6.30am on two mornings. I suspect that a room on a higher floor or at the back of the hotel would be much quieter. Service on reception was slow but all the staff we encountered were very nice and helpful.

Almuñécar itself was not our cup of tea but this hotel is well located and has good facilities with a bus stop right outside.

We were disappointed that the Blue Bar was closed as the ground floor bar lacks atmosphere and feels a bit more like a conference room. It has entertainment every night so there is nowhere for a quiet drink and the roof terrace is locked before sunset every evening. It’s also a shame that the dining room is in the basement which means those dining in missed the sunset and sea views, as such we chose to dine out. The breakfast was nice, I was impressed that they included sparkling wine in the buffet!

We would certainly recommend this hotel and had a pleasant stay.

Our long overdue re-visit to the Helios hotel was rewarded with even better service and a revamp of the hotel. Firstly I want to congratulate the management of the hotel chain for the sympathetic improvements made to the hotel starting at the foyer and reception. Throughout the hotel it is obvious that during its enforced closure people have been busy improving and modernising what was already a really good property. My congratulations must also go to the manager Filo and her staff for the exemplary service provided. The rooms are airy, modern and spotlessly clean with beds and pillows that make it very easy to “siesta” the day away. The restaurant is again run with Covid in mind, the tables and chairs wiped down after each guest, with new table cloths provided and clean, new cutlery put in place. An example of this service was when I inadvertently dropped my disposable mask on the floor without realising. Fernando was immediately standing next to me with an open box of masks for me to take one from and removing my dropped mask from the floor and disposing it for me——- service of the highest standard. The food has also improved out of all recognition for the best and this hotel must surely be upgraded to a 4* soon at least. The pool bar is run professionally too, spotlessly clean with competitive prices. Nothing more to add except that I hope to return to the Helios in the not too distant future. One final point. The hotel secured us prices at the local Norwegian clinic for our Covid flight checks that saved us €100 compared to the special price that Easyjet were offering, fantastic service!

We stayed overnight to meet up with a friend who booked Hotel Helios for us.
How is it only a 3 star... it's amazing and our stay was faultless.
From the moment we arrived it was a 'wow'... so fresh to look at from outside and inside.
Reception staff were amazing.. queue grew as they are so helpful. Everything was explained and there was always someone available to answer any questions.
Parking outside while you check in and a car park at the end of the road (very short walk) which we did not have to pay for. There is street parking, if spaces are available.
Fabulous pool ... not huge, but good for a cool down and swim about. Sunloungers and drinks tables round it which were cleaned thoroughly every time the user left them.
Beautiful terrace overlooking the beach.
Our room was a panoramic which gives you a full sea view which was breath taking.
Fridge, TV, safe, walk in shower, beautiful shower gel, liquid hand soap and conditioning shampoo in the bathroom, together with a hair dryer.
Water was supplied, together with a hand written personal welcome card from the Duty Manager, crisps with a bottle of Helios Olive Oil and beers in a bucket of ice.
We were unable to visit the Blue Bar as it is closed on a Sunday, but it has a great reputation.
We didn't have dinner in the restaurant, but my husband took a look and said there was an amazing buffet set out.
We had breakfast the following morning which was buffet style, however served to meet Covid regulations. The room is immaculate and the staff so so helpful. We were well set up for the day.
The staff were all very smart and could not be more helpful - nothing was too much trouble for anybody and all spoke English.

We will most definitely be back and if I could give 10 stars I would.

Absolutely FabUlous

I have just spent a week in this fantastic hotel. It was a Saga holiday with breakfast and evening meal included.
The rooms are modern, spacious and most have some sea view and all have balconies. The housekeeping clean and change the towels every day and the rooms are spotless. Some rooms have walk in showers others have a bath with a in bath shower, the beds are comfortable enough and the bed linen is good. The wardrobes are adequate but the hanging rack is a bit fiddly as it runs the depth rather than across the wardrobe There are some shelves but no drawers. There is also a free to use safe. Pool towels are available for a €10 deposit which you can change daily. The food is good, breakfasts were my favourite a massive choice and a lovely lady cooking eggs to order. The evening meals again had a good choice and even better if you like fish and seafood. They will also advise and cook food for guests with food allergies etc. All the staff are fantastic and do everything to make your stay a happy one. The lovely heated outdoor pool is such a bonus with plenty of sun loungers and umberellas.
If I had to criticise, the restaurant is buffet for all meals, it can get busy and noisy at times and is not really a relaxing dining experience. And the rooms have limited if any sound proofing and you can get disturbed by people in the corridors and dragging furniture around at night. Also the evening entertainment is not the best but there is a lovely outdoor terrace and a quiet sitting room to socialise.
What makes this hotel so loved by the many returning visitors are the staff and the location and I will certainly return.

We appreciate your positive feedback on the hotel facilities, the location, your room, the food offering, the pool area, as well as your kind words to our staff. I have taken good note of your comments on the restaurant noise and busyness, as well as the sound-proofing of our walls, and I am so sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused during your stay. With regards to our evening entertainment, we strive to please all our guests with a little bit of everything (international and national live music, spanish flamenco, games...), and I am so sorry it did not meet your expectations. Thank you for your kind and honest feedback, so we can look into the aspects we can still improve and work on them. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon! Very clean hotel and nice staff. Good size of standard rooms, all have see views from the side, or morning or afternoon sun. They have no bookshelves for second hand books. By the bed you can only choose to have both or none lamps turned on or off. Be prepared that by breakfast you can not take even a packet of butter with your hand.
Negative is the environmental issue: No recykling deposits in the hotel. The sheets smells of chlorine, while normal washing powder is enough to clean from virus.

I qm not going to the hotel this Christmas and New Year so l can only tell you what l remember from last Christmas and New Year. The hotel was packed, lots of nice Swdes wnd Finns. There were plenty of special gala type meals with lots of nice food. Il went with Saga so they opened one the side rooms off the main dining room for Saga guests. The meals were served by staff in courses. Lots of free drinks. Paety hats etc Jollification. Hotel was decorated in Christmas stuff, tree etc and we alll received presents. I think there was some entertainment which was OKish. A few bars near to the hotel but didn't go out that much but they seemed to be open over t Christmad and New Yearm If you want to know what they plan this year. l would email the hotel. Saga are useless !The reception staff are very helpful. So if you do decide to go. All the Best and as the Spanish say Felice Navidad 🤶💃🎶🎆

Hi Paul, I would hire a car like we did as it was a easy drive and takes approx an hour! Plenty of parking around the hotel for free. The bus is the cheapest, about €15 but takes longer. Unsure about the sunbeds, but would email the hotel. I hope that helps. Cheers John
