There was entertainment each night which was genuine and fun, normally a singer, we also had a Flamenco dance which looked like it was performed by local students which was really excellent.
The outside areas were also spotless with a lovely pool area. My wife and I had lunch there several times. The food was excellent my wife loved their tuna salad, whilst their toasted cheese and ham sandwich with fries was perfect, not greasy and extremely tasty.
Check in was quick and easy and the hotel had three lifts so we never had to wait to get to our room on the 8th floor.
We had Room 805 which was a superior double and it was well worth the extra money. Not only was the size and space excellent , we also had a massive balcony with two sunbeds and chairs and a small table. The view over the promenade and the beach was excellent , we even saw dolphins at play in the sea from our vantage point :) One request would be for some shelving in the bathroom. Housekeeping was excellent and of the very highest standard and I have stayed at some very expensive hotels. There is a good sized fridge in the room which we stocked up from the local supermarket "Mercadona" which was a 2 minute walk.
The hotel is well situated just a short walk from the town centre right on the promenade , they have bikes that you can rent if you wish to cycle. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby our favourite was Dorada de Plata just a five minute walk away. There was no noise at night and we slept well.
Well done to Hotel Helios and your staff , we will be back for sure.
The staff in the restaurant couldn’t have been more helpful and the excellent food dishes, whether hot or cold were constantly replenished. There was an extensive choice of food at every meal and, within our 12 days, little repetition. It was a pleasure to arrive for breakfast, lunch or dinner and be met by Robina or Etion with their cheerful greetings. We would definitely look to return to this hotel next January and recommend the hotel for its location too!
The room we had was a large twin with a seating area and balcony with a partial sea view. It was cleaned thoroughly every day by friendly staff.
The public areas of the hotel were maintained to a high standard and the bar was large and airy. There is a “happy hour” from 6.00pm to 7.00pm. every day when drinks (except cocktails) are two for the price of one, which we made full use of!
We were here on a half board basis with Saga which was breakfast and evening meal with wine and water. All meals were buffet-style and we found there was plenty of choice. My wife is vegetarian, so accepts her choice is more limited but was still pleased with what was available. The restaurant staff were excellent, very friendly and the majority spoke very good English.
The hotel, itself, is in an excellent position right on the sea front. You can walk in either direction along a promenade, lined with bars and restaurants. Even in February, a large number of these were open. There is a stop immediately outside the hotel, where you can catch a bus to the centre of town. From the main bus station, you can catch buses to many destinations including Granada, Malaga and Nerja.
Summing up, this is an excellent hotel in a very good location for an extended holiday. We are thinking of coming for a month next year.
Almuñécar itself was not our cup of tea but this hotel is well located and has good facilities with a bus stop right outside.
We were disappointed that the Blue Bar was closed as the ground floor bar lacks atmosphere and feels a bit more like a conference room. It has entertainment every night so there is nowhere for a quiet drink and the roof terrace is locked before sunset every evening. It’s also a shame that the dining room is in the basement which means those dining in missed the sunset and sea views, as such we chose to dine out. The breakfast was nice, I was impressed that they included sparkling wine in the buffet!
We would certainly recommend this hotel and had a pleasant stay.
How is it only a 3 star... it's amazing and our stay was faultless.
From the moment we arrived it was a 'wow'... so fresh to look at from outside and inside.
Reception staff were amazing.. queue grew as they are so helpful. Everything was explained and there was always someone available to answer any questions.
Parking outside while you check in and a car park at the end of the road (very short walk) which we did not have to pay for. There is street parking, if spaces are available.
Fabulous pool ... not huge, but good for a cool down and swim about. Sunloungers and drinks tables round it which were cleaned thoroughly every time the user left them.
Beautiful terrace overlooking the beach.
Our room was a panoramic which gives you a full sea view which was breath taking.
Fridge, TV, safe, walk in shower, beautiful shower gel, liquid hand soap and conditioning shampoo in the bathroom, together with a hair dryer.
Water was supplied, together with a hand written personal welcome card from the Duty Manager, crisps with a bottle of Helios Olive Oil and beers in a bucket of ice.
We were unable to visit the Blue Bar as it is closed on a Sunday, but it has a great reputation.
We didn't have dinner in the restaurant, but my husband took a look and said there was an amazing buffet set out.
We had breakfast the following morning which was buffet style, however served to meet Covid regulations. The room is immaculate and the staff so so helpful. We were well set up for the day.
The staff were all very smart and could not be more helpful - nothing was too much trouble for anybody and all spoke English.
We will most definitely be back and if I could give 10 stars I would.
Absolutely FabUlous
The rooms are modern, spacious and most have some sea view and all have balconies. The housekeeping clean and change the towels every day and the rooms are spotless. Some rooms have walk in showers others have a bath with a in bath shower, the beds are comfortable enough and the bed linen is good. The wardrobes are adequate but the hanging rack is a bit fiddly as it runs the depth rather than across the wardrobe There are some shelves but no drawers. There is also a free to use safe. Pool towels are available for a €10 deposit which you can change daily. The food is good, breakfasts were my favourite a massive choice and a lovely lady cooking eggs to order. The evening meals again had a good choice and even better if you like fish and seafood. They will also advise and cook food for guests with food allergies etc. All the staff are fantastic and do everything to make your stay a happy one. The lovely heated outdoor pool is such a bonus with plenty of sun loungers and umberellas.
If I had to criticise, the restaurant is buffet for all meals, it can get busy and noisy at times and is not really a relaxing dining experience. And the rooms have limited if any sound proofing and you can get disturbed by people in the corridors and dragging furniture around at night. Also the evening entertainment is not the best but there is a lovely outdoor terrace and a quiet sitting room to socialise.
What makes this hotel so loved by the many returning visitors are the staff and the location and I will certainly return.
Negative is the environmental issue: No recykling deposits in the hotel. The sheets smells of chlorine, while normal washing powder is enough to clean from virus.
"I would ask for a room on one of the higher floors with a balcony , the cost is extra but it’s well worth it "Read full review
