Situated between the mountains and the sea, the Club Esse Palmasera has all the Sardinian geography beauty. Behind it, there is an evergreen ridge from which the myrtle, the helichrysum and the lentisk make the Mediterranean scrub scents explode. In front of it, there is the sea, emerald green and blue, full of marine life: a paradise for diving. The hotel’s equipped beach is just 200m away, while to reach the Cala Gonone Central Beach or the Aquarium is just a short walk, and only 2.9km to reach the famous Bue Marino Caves.

Myself and my husband went for our honeymoon. The hotel room was really underwhelming and no request for a romantic setting in the room was made for how much we paid. To our disappointment the swimming pool rules included wearing a swimming cap, which unfortunately we didn’t have and didn’t want to wear so we never swam in it although very beautiful. The receptionists however were very helpful with our COVID test arrangements and called the doctor to the hotel, which we were very appreciative of.the scenery around the hotel is breath taking and the beach was just a 5 minute walk away from our room. The boardwalk had lovely restaurants which we are in every night and enjoyed. The breakfast at the hotel was the same every morning, I don’t eat pig meat so it was eggs and cheese for me everyday, I was disappointed by the lack of variety of items for breakfast. There was also a lady Rosa in the canteen who was very rude to me as I didn’t understand that a table was reserved and so she decided to shout across the room to her colleague to come and explain to me that the table was reserved, which I did not appreciate and was completely embarrassed by as she had made quite a scene. Myself and my husband agree that, minus the receptionists, a lot of the people working there lacked patience for tourists and those who do not speak fluent Italian. Overall we would not go back to the same hotel but we would visit Sardinia again for it’s beautiful waters, which is why I’ve put 3 stars.

Was due to go to Tenerife - then Greece but finally chose a last minute holiday in Sardinia to escape any worry of quarantine when we returned. Beautiful beaches gorgeous weather everyday and the sea clear as glass! However, the hotel is purely an Italian hotel we my wife and I didn't mind so much the Italians are lovely people but my teenage kids moaned they could not make friends easily as they did not speak Italian. We arrived late and we did not feel welcomed at all the lady on reception did not seem to pleased to see us and we had to make our own way to find the room with luggage in the pitch black had no clue where to go - we soon saw that the Italians got all their luggage taken to the rooms and were looked after far more than we was on arrival. Our room was really for two people not 2 adults and 2 teenagers but it was definately clean and it was cleaned everyday - again we were not too fussed about this as it was a last minute choice and we was just glad to get away to the sun. Pool and Bar great - the beaches are shingle but still nice and you don't get sand everywhere. The entertainment crew worked very hard and seemed to be brilliant for the Italians however we did feel a bit left out as they did not translate what was going on - but we were the only English family in the hotel but it would of been nice to know what was said. The food was good something for everyone - we do not like fish in our family but if you do then there is plenty of fish for you on the grill! 3 star for the food not 4 star Gala Gonone is beautiful small village plenty of bars and restaurants on the sea front. Hotel complex is lovely - it has tennis courts, table tennis and basketball court - set in a forest setting - you need to walk up and down steps to the beach which is good excercise on a lazy holiday! I would not recommend it to the UK holiday maker though unless 1/ you speak Italian or 2/ Not bothered about understanding Italian. The Italians are lovely people by the way the atmosphere around the pool was lovely, polite and pleasant. (so it seemed maybe it was just because I could not understand a word they were saying! ) Two lovely Pool bars one with fantastic view of the bay - we went on a boat trip to Cala Luna and also the Blue Marino Caves which was great Kids went Scuba diving which they loved too so all in all a great holiday. We went half board as the hotel did not do All Inclusive you pay for the drinks at the pool - we did miss the All inclusive option maybe they could consider it ? Overall the hotel grew on us as we stayed longer the Italians started to recognise us as "The English family" and did try and talk to us more in English as we got to know them. Sardinia is beautiful so would recommend it to anyone
