A nice place with roomy rooms but with an outstandingly bad breakfast. Cannot believe this is a five star hotel. I would rather say three stars. The location is great if you’re visiting Harvard and a good connections with taxis and Ubers. The staff in the bar could use some service training.
Very traditional hotel, fitting the location adjacent to Harvard Yard and the Harvard campus. Very clean room with traditional furnishings including dark wood furniture, four poster canopy bed, and large closet.
If you are looking for hip and modern then the Sheraton Commander is not for you but if what you want is an extremely comfortable room that is quiet and well furnished, in a hotel that has a certain understated class and quality then this hotel is perfect. The building is somewhat older so the walls are nice and solid which makes the rooms quiet. They are also fairly large. The hotel restaurant is good too and the hotel is an easy five minute walk to Harvard Square. We have stayed three times in the past year and look forward to staying there again next time we are in town.
Oh, Sheraton Commander Oh, how I long to be there Slow waltzing over the bridge Lost in a beautiful hymn No, I'm not one of the kids There you are There you are George Washington, he took command At the foot of the tree I took my pill, I caught a chill I remember these streets But it all doesn't mean What it used to to me
This hotel is horrible. It’s a billion years old with no amenities. Good luck finding a snack. No indoor pool. Parking is atrocious and using the valet takes longer than going through airport security. We stayed on the first floor while a party was taking place in the ballroom and we might as well have been in the DJ booth. The bass was shaking the furniture as we sang along through the paper thin walls. I’d rather sleep in my car.
It was an average hotel, but there was loud street noises. The ground floor was the prettiest floor, the others were a dissapointment. The gym was good, though, but it was deserted, not much people were there. I think overall this hotel is a 3 night max stay because it really didn't have much too it, and the bathroom was to small. The location was great. There was a view of Cambridge Common and it was close too town, where there was the Coop, Dunkin DOnuts and a lovely cafe called Tatte. Close by too Harvard and also nearby the Charles River. The 'T' is near Starbucks, and the place Sheraton Commander is, is good about this place. Next time I reccomend staying at the near by hotel, The Charles Hotel, or another hotel would be nice to try out. The staff were nice and greeting, but when you ask them a question, like "can we stay an hour or two more before we check out?" they don't give you much of an answer. But, the luggage holder was very good and quick to arrive and take our luggage. Its not too faraway from Logan airport, 60mins max on 'T' and 45mins max with cab. The cab driver who drove us there, though, was nice and spirited and drove us very officentally over the bridge, The room was decorated in an average way. It kinda looked like Travelodge*. *some Travelodge's are very nice, but this one was bog standard.…
I left after 2 days of terrible service and no sleep and I am a lifetime Marriott Platinum Elite member. They promised to move me away from the street they didn't. They promised to credit me 1 night lodging, they didn't. The manager wouldn't even tke my call personally. Ove 600 nights at Marriott brands and this was the worst!
My biggest takeaway is the professionalism of the staff. Front desk, restaurant, housekeeping were all first rate, a hard thing to achieve these days. The location is very convenient - a short walk to Harvard Square and campus. The hotel lobby is welcoming, and the business center was functioning and stocked - printers had ink & paper, something that should be a no-brainer, but many hotels fail here. My Marriott elite status got us an upgrade to a junior suite which was extremely spacious. We had room for a rollaway bed and all the stuff we were moving into an apartment, without feeling cramped. The breakfast buffet was above average, and the wait staff was extremely attentive. In the evening, bartender Jim takes care of everyone’s needs and makes you feel like you’re family. Overall, a huge win for first time visitor. I’ll definitely use this property again.…
Nicely renovated old hotel with beautiful Adam-Style plasterwork in lobby. Our room was spacious but not too large, and the bed was very comfortable. What they got right: no outside noise whatever--absolute quiet, two types of pillows (one for back sleepers and a softer one for side-stomach sleepers), great light in bathroom from the mirror's light frame, a subtle warm/neutral color scheme, and fast elevators. What they got wrong: practically everything on the service side--the room was not cleaned or freshened during out stay, requests for supplies (cups, coffee) were not fulfilled, and promised wake-up calls did not occur.
We recently stayed at the Sheraton Commander hotel as we were visiting our daughter in Boston. It is three blocks away from her apartment so it was super convenient. We've stayed at the Charles before, but the rate was much higher. We didn't realize it was First Year parents weekend at Harvard, so the rates were certainly inflated. Overall it was a good experience. The building dates back to the 1920s. The rooms were probably updated in the late 1980s/early 1990s. They can certainly use a refresh. The bathroom was small, but that's expected for an old hotel even after renovation. Parking is $45 a day, which i think is expensive and I was disappointed that the hotel does not have complimentary coffee in the morning. Of course I paid $5 for coffee at the restaurant. I know there is a coffee maker in the room, but the coffee is never as good. Overall, the level of service was good. The staff was helpful in regards to some special needs and sent an engineer quickly to resolve the AC problem. Ideally, 3.5 stars is probably better but I went with four stars because of the service.…
