I write this review as I sit outside my caravan on the banks of Lough Derg. Lakeside caravan/camp site is really a breath of fresh air. The toilets and showers are clean and checked by the friendly and helpful staff regularly. However the facilities could do with being upgraded and modernised. The pitch we have is right alongside the lake and is simply idyllic. Swans swam up to us this morning to greet us. Red squirrels roam around the site without a care in the world. Plenty of electric and water points. Boating, kayaking, fishing, tennis, football and beautiful walks are all here for the visitor to enjoy. I'll be back here for certain.

I have now stayed here with friends in July or August for a few summers in a row and can confidently recommend this place. The location is beyond stunning. Lough Derg has to be seen to be believed. There are no shortage of water based activities to be enjoyed. Kayaking around the islands or a boat ride out to Holy Island to see one of Ireland’s oldest churches ( rebuilt by Brian Boru in the year 900 after its was sacked by vikings!) Or just plain old swimming or fishing. The whole area has a magical feeling to it and will appeal to wildlife lovers and photographers as there are many different types of bird life living on the lake including sea eagles. The place is a paradise for kids too with outdoor activities taking up most of their time, the woodland is safe and close to

When I told my Mam that my family were heading to Mountshannon camping for the weekend she was all excited for us saying how it was the nicest site we ever stayed in ourselves as kids. I couldn't remember it as we are talking 30+ years ago but on arrival I bet not much has changed.... except the nice part... A lot could be done for very little cost but there seems to be a lack of pride in the place. The entrance & sites close by are nice but then drive on down to the back for pitches. It's like one of those links that pops up on FB for places that time forgot. Nothing but abandoned mobile homes there & down by the lake where the pitches would be beautiful. I can only imagine the cost of disposing of these but I can also only imagine them being a hilton for rodents. Get them

We have been here 3 times, twice in a tent and most recently we rented a mobile home. Price was very reasonable, and mobile had everything you need. A beautiful view of the lake, and so peaceful, noone on top of us - it was like our own private spot. This is a great base for touring Clare but there is also plenty to do on site, rent a boat or canoe, take a trip to Holy Island, eagle watch, tennis, table tennis, dive of the little pier. A wonderful spot we will be back again - thank you :)

Overall the setting is beautiful and largely enjoyed our stay. Stayed two nights. First night, people were singing (not very well) until 01.30. Second night, people were making noise until 03.00. Very tired after the late night drama though.
