I'm just back from this campsite and wish i was there still.. it might get busy in high season but this time of year, and midweek, it's as close to wild camping as you get on a campsite. Loads of little semi secluded spots right by the river amidst some trees, very reasonable. Great swimming in the lake and a short hop on the bike to Mountshannon. Perfect for a shoulder season getaway

Just back after 2 nights, unfortunately we had the wettest night all summer on our first night. We were a party of two tents, we arrived after out friends, their checkin was informative, given a map etc ours was more lax(I think it may have been the owner), you pick your own pitches which does have its advantages but if it’s your first time on site a little guidance would help. You can pitch by the lake which are beautiful but no electricity and as our weather wasn’t great can be a couple of degree cooler. We pitched at the camping green there was plenty of room. There was a block of toilets and showers close by all cleaned on a regular basis and no queue for showers. On the green is a number of shelters some with tables and benches which are used for cooking and sitting by

We booked to stay here a few days ago and we were astounded with the views and the experience we had. We were able to find a little pitch on the lake site and set up camp with a little area to sit by the water. we hired a boat for the day for fishing and we had a swim in the lake before dinner. Facilities were perfectly clean and in a good location. The resident squirrel was too cute as were the ducks and swans who visited us more then once. It was absolute bliss and we didnt want to leave the next day we will be back very soon.

After 15 years, I’ve just returned from a short stay at Lake side with my 2 boys and their friends, (aged 8-11). Briefly met with owner and he was a very helpful an approachable man. A very busy person this weekend. I give this facility a 10/10. The setting is stunning, with pitches, caravans and mobile homes dotted around the facility. A little random in places, added to its unique charm. In a similar fashion to Austrian camp sites, the camping area had a number of sheltered picnic tables which on this occasion were used to shelter form the sun. We were last minute arrivals, but if you book in time you can choose to locate in on the shore side or in the woods, or in the camping green. Fire pits are allowed with prior permission from management with regard to location. The

Stayed for 3 nights in a touring caravan. Had a pitch right on the edge of the beautiful lake, ask for Eagles Bay pitches. The facilities are clean(if a little dated) and the campers kitchen has a microwave, cooker, oven and fridge freezer, there is also a well equipped laundry room.Easy walk into the local village where there is a nice pub and a small café/bistro. The site is very family orientated with plenty play areas for children. The site has a mixture of permanent mobile homes and chalets and also has a small mooring for boats. We took kayaks and enjoyed the tranquility of the water. We felt it was value for money and will definitely return.
