When you first arrive into the beautiful Thorsmork valley the cabins and buildings are underwhelming. This is made up for by the fantastic attentive staff who are always looking for ways to help you enjoy your trip. While I was there they fixed someone's computer who spilled a beer into it, searched through the snow for a lost iphone, made...

If you like hiking, this is the right place: this campsite lies literally in the middle of nowhere and it is the starting point to four different trails which range from a two hours hike up to a five hours marathon. I am not too much of a walker but with my father a guide to the Italian Alps and...

I am sitting in the lodge having just completed a guided hike through the snow to visit the ice cave. It is snowing outside and looks really cold. In here though it is warm and very comfortable. The smell from the kitchen as our dinner is prepared is just wonderful.A glass of wine, great staff great company makes this a...

The place is dreamy. Been in winter so I recommend to bring waterproof shoes and very warm clothes. You can do infinite hikes all over the place. The staff was very friendly and the food amazing. Bring a good camera with you because you're going to be desperate for keeping all those views 😍

The huts themselves were very basic. However, the bed was clean and comfortable and the heater kept the place warm. While the huts have a small kitchenette, a toilet they have not. The toilets were a short walk to a nearby building. The showers were in a separate building near the main lodge / dining building. There was plenty of...

Small cabins consisting of a kitchenette and 2 bunk beds. Good heaters in the room. Sink, kettle and running water in kitchen with a hotplate if you desire to cook. Restaurant was okay...relatively expensive (it's Iceland!!) and set menu but better than having to buy food and cook! Toilet in main lodge and dorm lodge next door. Showers in separate...

The accommodation here is not too different to other places we stayed at in Iceland, it is basic and clean. The price is also similar to other places we stayed at, although there is the added expense of having to get the bus to the huts. It is a great base to start day hikes, we spent one night here...

This likely is not the forum to debate whether you will like the hikes around Iceland or not. Since…Iceland hikes differ than those in other countries such as the southwest USA. For instance, you need to be prepared with wet and cold gear on Iceland hikes, even in the summer! What I will say is that the accommodations provided with...

We took a bus to the Volcano Huts and stayed in a private room. The hiking in the area was some of the best we experienced in Iceland. There were certainly other people around, but the hikes felt like we had the whole area to ourselves. As others have mentioned, the maps are color coded, but the trail markers don't...

After trekking the Laugaver Trail from Landmannalaguar to Porsmork in 2 days we were tired and hungry. We were met by a kind friendly man who declined us a bed but offered is bus tickets back to Hella. The last bus left at 8:40pm in Aug so we snagged tickets and a hot meal of lamb, beef, chicken, and 2...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Volcano Huts are located in Húsadalur Valley in the THórsmörk Nature Reserve in Iceland, right next to the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano & Glacier. The unique nature of the THórsmörk area make this an ideal place for hiking and nature exploring. We offer rustic mountain hut accommodation, local food, tours and activities for groups and individuals. Volcano Huts offer simple accommodation in small cottages, shared cabin-dorms, small private bedrooms and camping grounds. Our accommodations are quite rustic and in keeping with other mountain huts in Iceland but offer the option of small private cottages and rooms with made up beds. THórsmörk Nature Reserve, has one of Iceland's most dynamic and beautiful landscapes, where active volcanoes and towering glaciers rise above the lush valleys below. The THórsmörk area has endless hiking trails and is connected to the Landmannalaugar Nature Reserve via the Laugavegur hiking trail and Skógar via the Fimmvorduhals trail. The LavaGrill Restaurant & bar offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks, homemade cakes and coffee. We can also send you off with a packed lunch to take with you on your hike. The bar offers a selection of local beers and other drinks. How to get here - IMPORTANT! Please note that you will have to take a special mountain bus to get here as you will have to cross big rivers on the way. You can take the bus all the way from Reykjavik or leave your car and hop onboard the bus at various stops along the way. ... more   less
