great night at Hotel Ranga. Super friendly staff, great room (standard room might be smallish, we were upgraded in a great/big/super clean deluxe room). Northern light wake up call, amazing breakfast, expensive but delicious dinner. The hotel price is quite expensive but if you compare with the average price/quality of other hotels in Iceland, it's probably worth it for one...

This is a really nice hotel, with quite luxurious rooms. We had a large bedroom and bathroom, but the lighting in the bedroom is incredibly low – almost impossible to read books in your room! The rooms at the back of the hotel have easy access to the 3 hot tubs, which overlook a river. We were at the front,...

Hotel Ranga is a lovely hotel and will always have a special place in our hearts as it's where I proposed to my now fiancee this April. The hotel sits just off route 1, outside Hella and is perfectly placed for touring the south of the Island. You are made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive, being invited...

My husband and I arrived at the hotel late in the afternoon. We were greeted with such a warm smile and greetings from their receptionist ( too bad I didn't get her name ). Checking in was quick. So we headed to our room. I have nothing to complain about the room. Fairly size, so clean and smell nice. Bathroom...

My friends and I visited Hotel Ranga for three nights and it was a wonderful three nights! We were able to see the northern lights twice, but the last night they were incredible. The hotel has a sign up list if you want to be called in the middle of the night to see the northern lights. I highly suggest signing...

Lodge style hotel. Wonderful restaurant with amazing soups and fish. Comfortable lounge and friendly staff. Multiple outside hot tubs. They will call you if the northern lights are seen and there are chairs set up facing north to watch them. Breakfast was good as well.

This was our 2nd time at Ranga. We booked a standard room which came with a king bed and a large (by European standards) bathroom. No shower curtain or door so you risk gettting water all over the floor if you shower standing up. The floor was heated so that's a nice touch. The room comes with a breakfast buffet...

Stayed at Hotel Ranga 03/25-03/27 and my only regret is that my schedule didn't give me enough time to fully enjoy the hotel. It's the combination between a rustic lodge and a luxury hotel and it is just lovely! The first night I was in room 15 which was nice..just didn't have the balcony/ direct access to the Jacuzzi. As...

In April 2017, my husband and I stayed at the Hotel Ranga for four nights of our trip to Iceland. The hotel was a home base for us as we explored the south and west of Iceland, and it was perfectly situated as such. The room itself was well appointed (the Australia junior suite) the size of the room, the...

A group of four of us have just returned from a 3 night stay in the Hotel Ranga after a 5 night trip in Iceland. We were thoroughly impressed with the Hotel and will most definitely recommend staying here to our friends and family wanting to visit Iceland. The staff are an absolute credit and Frederic the owner is fantastic...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
