After a long day of sightseeing, we were delighted to check into Maison la Stella Cadente Provins. Even from the moment, I questioned them about the property I knew this would be a memorable experience. Daniel the property manager speaks perfect English and was always available by both phone and email to answer any questions and requests. The property is delightful, although it was too cold to enjoy the exteriors, they looked as if in summer they would be delightful to enjoy. We loved the unique decor and themes rooms. So much more interesting than a big named chain we could have chosen. The suite was perfect to accommodate our group without having to book multiple rooms. It could comfortably sleep 5 people. We opted to stay in the hotel for dinner which was not only delicious and a great value but they were able to accommodate the dietary preferences of our Vegetarian co-traveler. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast was abundant and fulfilling. The location was great, we were able to walk to the market for a bottle of wine to enjoy in the room and they didn't mind us drinking a glass at the fireplace in the dining area. All the staff was lovely and the wine they suggested with dinner was a real treat. I will definitely recommend them to any travelers I know heading to the delightful Medival village, it completely enhanced our stay and makes me want to come back in the warmer weather when we can enjoy the facilities to their fullest. Thank you, Daniel and Maison Stella Cadente.

The impressive hotel, eclectically furnished, in beautiful grounds was a pleasure to visit. The manager, Daniel was very personable and helpful as were his staff. He was also kind enough to upgrade us to a suite. Both dinner and breakfast was delicious with excellent quality ingredients. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for a fun girls weekend away and it was wonderful. The hotel is quirky and interesting. The staff were fabulous. Daniel was amazing and made us so welcome, and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend staying here if you’re in Provins.

The building is a lovely old French house that has been re-furbished and styled to impress. The bedrooms and bathrooms are very well presented and comfortable as are the lounges etc. The garden is delightful. The owner/hosts/staff are very nice people and eager to ensure guests enjoy their stay and they speak excellent English. The restaurant is reputed to be good but it doesn't open on Sunday evening or Monday so sadly we did not get a chance to try it. See their website for photos.

This is a handsome house sat in the middle of rolling lawns, less than a 5 minute walk up to the town's main square. Parking is on-street and easy or, if you ask nicely, Daniel the manager will allow you to park in his courtyard which has room for one car (but note,1m 90 height restriction). There is free Wi-fi. The decor of the house has been designed by its eponymous designer owner - Stella Cadenta is Italian for shooting star - and is best described as "cutting edge": each of the 3 public rooms downstairs and the 5 bedrooms upstairs has a bold and different theme, lavishly appointed and in striking colours, and even the whole staircase is painted in gold leaf. Daniel the manager gave us a guided tour. The whole interior is somewhat surreal and it's a bit like Marmite - you either love or hate each room. There are photos on the website of each room, so you know exactly what you're booking. We had the Snow Queen room: the bed was exceptionally comfortable but the height of the shower was abnormally low, so being tall, I had to stoop. Given the extraordinary attention to detail in everything else, this was a bizarre thing to overlook. The hotel is very clean.
Daniel the manager and his wife Helene were excellent hosts, making us feel most welcome. The breakfast was fresh bread and croissantes with local cheeses and jam, a choice of cereals with yoghurt and freshly squeezed orange juice, served in an elegant room with a high ceiling and loads of natural light. A very stylish start to the day.
The town of Provins is very ancient and in surprisingly good condition for its age - it is one of France's 39 UNESCO World Heritage sites - but being August, was deserted in the evening, with most restaurants closed. Probably not the best time of year to visit.

If you are going to Provins, La Maison d'Hôtes Stella Cadente is the place to stay. It’s ideally situated just four or five minutes from the historic part of town and the oldest restaurant in France (Hostellerie de la croix d’or). The grounds are expansive and invite visitors to enjoy a stroll in the grass, read on the garden chairs, or simply admire the roses.
The maison itself is beautifully maintained and features whimsical and unexpected décor. When we arrived, Daniel gave us a tour of the whole house – each room is inspired by a fairy tale and each has surprising and unique features. We saw everything from musical showers with multicolored LED lights to beautiful clawed tubs. But if a disco shower sounds intimidating, fear not - there are rooms for the most traditional and the most avant-garde guests. My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the more conservative rooms (Le Chat Botté). We were delighted by the charming view of the backyard, comfortable bed, and delightful mise-en-scene. Breakfast is provided and we were charmed by the fresh bread, delicious pastries, and the local specialty of rose jam.
Provins is lovely and well worth the overnight visit. We happened to catch the sunset by the old ramparts and the view was just as rosy as the flower that Provins is famous for. Even better, you’ll have the town to yourself before 12 o’clock, when most of the daytime tourists arrive. We loved exploring the Tour César, La Collégiale Saint-Quirace, and the ramparts (be sure to ask Daniel about the history behind the 4 different historic city walls!). If you can find the time, I especially recommend taking a peaceful break in the Roseraie de Provins with a glass of wine or a book. I don’t particularly care for roses but I was won over by the garden’s great design, expansive space, strategically placed lawn chairs, and general tranquility.
In spite all of the attractions the house and town provide, the highlight of the visit for us was truly the charming company of Hélène, Daniel, and their absolutely adorable furry friends Tango (dog) and Blues (cat). Hélène and Daniel are perfect hosts and great conversationalists. Tango and Blues greeted us like they had known us for years (We are pet starved after our city travels and spent embarrassing amounts of time cooing over the animals). Hélène and Daniel are friendly, warm, and extremely knowledgeable about France and the history of Provins. Time and time again, they went out of their way to tell us about the village or show us interesting historic sites. My boyfriend studies medieval French literature and they went to great lengths to show us relevant sites we never would have had the chance to visit without their generosity and kindness.
All in all, I cannot recommend La Maison d’Hôtes Stella Cadente or Provins highly enough. If you are staying overnight in Provins—it’s worth doing so—you’d be crazy not to stay with Hélène and Daniel. An incredible experience!

Wahoo! Thank you for a such review. We see that you have enjoyed the guesthouse as much as Provins and our presence, our pets. That affects us much. Helen and I are much more attentive to our foreign guests that they usually have little or no experience Provins, France, or our way of life. Also because like you we had ourselves the joy of being welcomed in many places before to welcome you to this charming and unique guest house. Give us your news, back in the U.S., and good luck to John for his future job.

Wow, where to start? Daniel and Hélène are friendly and helpful and getting to know them was a highlight of the stay. I felt right at home. Daniel provided plenty of helpful information about what to do in Provins and where to eat. He also provides a pass that gives free access to a selection of attractions in the village.
The rooms are meticulously decorated, cosy and clean. I stayed in Puss and Boots and the bath is lovely. The house is peaceful and the beds are comfortable. I had a good night's sleep every night with no disturbances. The breakfast was great, with fresh breads, pastries, cereals, jams, coffee, tea, juice and Daniel will cook eggs for you.
The gardens are beautifully kept and it's a pleasure to read a book under a tree in the afternoon. Just up the road is the upper part of Provins, home to the Tower of Caesar and the ramparts. Make sure you visit the rose garden (La Roseraie de Provins) if you like that sort of thing - it's absolutely stunning, especially on a warm sunny day. Take a picnic and some wine and spend the afternoon.
I can't recommend La maison de Stella Cadente highly enough. I can't fault the whole experience and I will remember it forever. I booked it on a whim as a break from my two month stay in Paris and it ended up being the best part of my whole trip. Go during the week if you can because the village is quiet and you'll almost have the place to yourself. Thank you to Daniel and Hélène. I hope to return!

Emma thank you for your testimony. For Helen and me, it is very important to help our foreign guests with useful information about Provins. We offer indeed a pass visit for the monuments available for one person and for each room rentals. Our park, the only one of this size in Provins, is available for your relaxation, or why not to enjoy a barbecue, and if you have the opportunity to come during the week or for 2 nights with our special summer rate (a night bought, the second at half price) you will be amazed by the tranquility of the place. I agree with you that the rose garden merit a detour. Sometimes it is said that chance makes well things. We hope also to see you again and Tango awaits you for a walk. Friendly

My wife, our 4 children and I were looking for a different way to celebrate New Year Eve. My wife picked this Maison d'Hôte which turned out to be a little gem. This is very close from Paris (one hour drive) in the medieval city of Provins. The house is surrounded by a large garden and you litteraly see squirrels playing all over the trees from your bathroom or the breakfast room.
The decoration is pretty amazing (each room is decorated according to a fairy tale). There are several interesting buildings to visit in the medieval part of the city if you like History. We had a great New Year Eve celebration dinner for half the price we would have paid in Paris with twice as much to eat... :-)
I highly recommend this Maison d'Hôte for either a romantic get away or for a family escape.
One last note : the breakfast is first class and Daniel, the person in charge, is a very nice and helpful host.
Enjoy !

This Guest House is very unique and decorated in the most unusual way. All rooms are individually decorated which may not appeal to everyone but my husband and I loved them. Breakfast was served to us on the garden terrace as the weather was fine. The breakfast itself was lovely and it was all cooked fresh. Excellent location to explore the old town of Provins. Parking is easy and the staff were friendly and helpful.
