Fred and Cathy are the best host and hostess of Skagway/Dyea Alaska. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay with exceptional service. What an experience!! A must see on your next Road Trip! The breakfasts that we had were exceptional. Dinners were...More
I wish that we would have found this place earlier...wonderful location and scenetic and a great history to the area. We did stay in Skagway in a very lovely B&B but our interest was a cabin in the woods and we just found this one...More
Kathy and Fred were wonderful hosts and Chilkoot Trail Outpost is definitely the place to go when you are going to Skagway. There were 4 cruise ships in town and it was a zoo. 7 miles out at the foot of the Chilkoot Trail you...More
A most enjoyable retreat lodge just outside Skagway in a most historical part of the country! Owned and operated by a couple who definitely 'go the extra mile' to accommodate!

The site is serene, pristine and with separate cabins that are roomy and spotless. The hosts are welcoming and offer a wonderful spread for breakfast and dinner. There is also a large barbecue pit for S'mores! It was a real Alaskan experience.

If you are still in the planning stages I would recommend Ketchikan. We spent a week there with a vehicle and had the time of our life. Juneau is ok, the glacier is beautiful. Another great place which has more to offer than Haines is Sitka. We spent three days there and could have spent more. We did not have a vehicle however they have good public transportation or you can walk the short distances. There is a bird and bear sanctuary as well as the Russian Orthodox church. The tourist are fewer in number and less commercial. Whitehorse is another great place to visit. There is the Beringa museum and other sites to see. The train in Skagway is fun and an engineering marvel. You will parts of Alaska you would not otherwise see. Kinda spendy but worth the adventure. Flying or taking the ferries are such different adventures I would do both if you can. We were there the first part of June last year and had little to no rain. Have a great trip.
