A gorgeous place for spending a beautiful summer weekend. Considering everything that the property has to offer, as well as its very high price range during the summer season, it is best experienced as a retreat - and not simply just a base where to sleep when exploring the region.

From the moment you arrive and are greeted in the parking lot by a member of the staff, offering to help with your luggage (as well as an umbrella, if necessary), the service experience is very pleasantly personal. This also includes turndown service that in my experience is rather rare in the Baltics.

Although there is no classical beach on the property, there is a beautiful sun deck by the sea with sun beds and parasols, and also a ladder for climbing down to the sea, if you feel like swimming.

Finally, two practical recommendations:
* When driving to Pädaste Manor, abide by the road signs and not your GPS (i.e. ignore the GPS instruction if there is no road sign instructing to do the same).
* Breakfast is made to order and served at the table from 9 am to 11 am. Therefore, you should plan more time for the breakfast than you would in case of a buffet, and it is best not to book any spa treatments into the same time slot, if possible.

We were happy to spend a night at Pädaste Manor. The staff was friendly and attentive but not overwhelmingly. The room - beautiful, good aircon, precious Molton Brown toiletries, even mosquito repellents were there, mosquitoes weren’t a problem though. We stayed at Carriage House, double room with balcony. The candles were all around the lobby, cinnamon flavoured, I think. Lovely. The manor’s park was simply stunning, something I would expect at best places in England, France countryside :) SPA experience with masseuse Signe was excellent, I had a Herbal massage, 1h. I would like to mention minutiae too: selection of Hermes fragrances at the SPA Dressing room, tea and healthy snacks on the terrace after treatment. Small things, not unique in good places but pleasant. We had a breakfast in the garden of the restaurant Alexander, there was very attentive and kind waiter Bilal. The breakfast choice was in some sense limited but very good - home baked bread, eggs of your choice, salad, lamb sausages, pancakes etc. Do I want to return? Yes, absolutely! To be honest, it’s the only one luxury place in Baltics, maybe Rumene Manor in Latvia would be quite similar.

We discovered Pädaste Manor on the island of Muhu about fifteen years ago. The location is idyllic, so peaceful with just the sound of the wind in the trees and the song of the nightingale. We return as often as we can for short breaks and to celebrate important family events. Pädaste has set the standard by which we measure other hotels. None of them come close. The Manor has been restored to a very high standard with friendly, intelligent staff who take a personal delight in looking after their guests. We are pampered not just by the staff but with soft comfortable beds, a sumptuous breakfast and the delights served up at their Michelin standard restaurant. Thank you to the team at Pädaste for making us feel so special once again. We look forward to seeing before too long.

Diabolical experience.

I had made my original booking through Hyatt due to their partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World of which Pädaste Manor is part of.

Few days later I received a message from Hyatt that the property doesn't accept Amex and my reservation was canceled

I made another one on SLH's own website and then the property claimed that they were not able to pre-authorizate my HSBC card that I have been using the time in the Baltics and my reservation was canceled for the second time. They, however, asked if I would like to make a reservation for a dinner? Doesn't make much sense.

I made a third reservation through Tablet Hotels when arriving at the Muhu harnor so that they wouldn't have time to cancel it by the time it took to get to the hotel (10 minutes).

Quite frankly, at this point, I would have preferred staying somewhere, because it didn't appear that they would like to have paying guests, but a friend with whom I was traveling with her a reservation.

The check in went fine and I was upgraded and provided a fruit plate.

My friend received several calls and emails from the hotel trying to get him to make spa and restaurant bookings.

I went to breakfast in the morning and only wanted to have whole wheat toast that they didn't have. Also the teapots cover always fell off when pouring some.

It felt that the property mainly emoloyes trainees from a hospitality school in Estonia.

This hotel is not worth the money even when you consider the uniquely setting due to lack of service and common sense.

They'd rather have a covid-sick guest than change a reservation. Our kid fell ill on the day of our departure and we have decided to change our reservation last minute. Given the pandemic, we thought this would be a responsible thing to do as there is a risk our kid may have covid. We were keen on changing the reservation and paying the price difference on the room. Hotel had offered to either have us cancel the reservation and loose the full prepayment or change the reservation for a fee of 150 euros on top of the difference in room rate.

Never experienced the rest of the hotel, but this was more than enough to discourage us from visiting the hotel and we'd strongly recommend for anyone looking at this property, to look elsewhere. This is hardly a client-focused service you'd expect from the hotel of this level.

Having being here in 2006 and 2011, it was an experience to return. The setting is fabulous, but the service and the amenities haven't been upgraded for the modern-day traveller. The superior double room in the Manor House was large, yet shabby in corners and lacking coffee/tea making facilities and a decent hairdryer. Just to name a few items. The service in the Yacht Club was disastrous. The breakfast was served at the table from 9am and served our needs, but could be considered by others to be rather limited. The restaurant was worth a visit in the evening as the restaurant manager, Bilal, was luckily able to make the experience professional.

This place truly suprised - oh my god what an effort they have pit in every detail there. with the minimalistic style and authenticity in everything. Elegance with the simplicity
One of the best restaurant experiences during last year. I was suprised that Michelin has not visited them yet - they are defeneately worthy of it.

Very unique and truly pleasant Spa experience with holistic massage.
Truly professional service and fantastic rooms. Perfect interior with historical buildings and nature all around. we had such a good rest there.

Owner also playing piano at restaurant was like a cherry on a cake.

Defeneately one of the best discoveries and I truly reccommend it for romantic weekend 😉.

Padaste is really a special place and definitely worth making a trip to.

We had been there before in the summer and early spring, but we really enjoyed our recent autumn long-weekend at the manor. It was the perfect time of year for long walks and bike rides during the day and then heading to the SPA or relaxing in our cozy room with a fireplace. We stayed three nights, but wished we had one more. Padaste really is one of best places in the world to unwind. The place exudes charm and calm.

The surrounding area and Muhu is easily explored by foot, bike and car- the front desk was very helpful in this regard. Taking a few hours to drive to and explore Kuressaare is also well worth it if you are at Padaste for more than one night. The town is charming and the ancient fortress impressive.

We stayed in a superior Junior Suite in the main manor house. The room is large, but very cozy with its fireplace. The elegant, yet rustic design is lovely and the room is immaculately maintained. We simply loved it.

The elegant breakfast in restaurant Alexander was certainly one of the highlights of each day. The setting, food and service were perfect. We also dined at Alexander in the evenings, which is an amazing experience.

We will certainly be back again!

We spent five wonderful relaxing nights at Padaste enjoying this most beautiful hotel in what is for me, the most stunning location anywhere. The food is sourced locally, from the kitchen garden or foraged and is out of this world and the honey produced by Padaste is an absolute must try at breakfast. I learnt that the starter for the sourdough bread is a 100 years old and comes from one of the owners' family and it produces absolutely gorgeous bread. The breakfasts are "a must" experience, and the pancakes are a must try. All the food is beautifully presented and is served by knowledgeable staff.

Our room was immaculately clean and serviced daily, and the beds are so comfortable. What a treat the turn-down service is! Indeed all staff at the hotel did everything they could to make our stay the absolute best, they work incredibly hard, very pleasant, knowledgeable, work as a team and are an absolute credit to the owners. The spa and the newly installed smoke sauna is an absolute must visit and is the best that I have ever experienced. The spa uses local herbs and plants in their products which are divine.

The hotel have spacious rooms and the Alexanders' restaurant is stunning, serving stunning food and incidentally have gained a much deserved Michelin award for 2023 and 2024. In the restaurant is a very special and beautiful grand piano that was specially commissioned by the owner. We were very fortunate to hear the owner playing this beautiful instrument on a few evenings, including at the special concert that we attended at the restaurant.

After five wonderful nights and days at Padaste, regrettably, the time came to leave this wonderful luxurious place on Muhu and return to our day to day lives, but what a wonderful treat we had. We have now returned home refreshed but have started planning on our return already. Au revoir Padaste and your wonderful team, we will be back as soon as can. Thank you Padaste and all the wonderful staff for making our stay the absolute best. We highly recommend the experience of Padaste in fact it is a must.

Admittedly, we had high expectations based on reviews, reputation, and price. While the hotel is absolutely fine and the environment is gorgeous and peaceful, the once-exceptional contemporary facilities are dated, and the service is poor.

The rooms have not been upgraded since about 2008 (which is the date of the most recent movie in their antiquated Blue-Ray(?) film library), the air conditioning was highly problematic on a hot summer day with no fans available, and the general responsiveness of the staff ranged from blasé to unsophisticated. Perhaps the worst service of six varied hotels we visited in Estonia and Finland.

Note: We are not foodies and we did not visit Padaste to dine at their Michelin-rated restaurant, so we suspect the experience may be different for guests focused primarily on the restaurant.

Response from Martin Breuer, Owner at Padaste Manor
Responded 6 Jun 2024
Dear DJKDC and family, I am extremely sorry to read that you are disappointed with our facilities and service and can only say how much I regret this. Your conclusion that rooms and services have not been updated since 2008 is not based on facts, let me inform you in more detail about the updates. Rooms are very well maintained on an annual basis, and linen and also mattresses have been renewed multiple times. But yes the design is a classical and timeless one, based on the highest quality of furniture craftsmanship, we purposely do not follow design trends as we want our hotel to be ultimately comfortable as opposed to fashionable. You are right with your remark that the aircon did not function well, on this unusually hot summer night, and upon you contacting our front desk, we proposed to give you a different room, as is our policy in case of a malfunction. Considering technology investment, I can assure you that we are at par with what can be expected from a five-star countryside hotel. You bring in our dated collection of Blue Ray movies. As we all know technology has moved on since 2008 and in 2012 we invested tens of thousands of Euros in a last-mile fiber optic connection bringing high-speed internet to each room and in all public areas. At the same time, we invested in private iPads for our guests, last year replaced by the latest Apple iPad generation. This facility enables clients to stream video (like Netflix) and audio from any online source into the room. Our high-end Sonos audio system has been recently overhauled as well. Technology has made the need to expand the Blue Ray collection superfluous. The reason we still keep the existing collection and our in-room Play Station facility is for the entertainment of the youngest kids of our guests. I hope that I was able to illustrate that we do regularly update our rooms and technology as we also make investments every year in the park; grounds; our Spa and Alexander Restaurant. Both are very much appreciated by our clientele. Puzzling to me is your remark about our staff being blasé and unsophisticated. Bot staff members that you met are known to be extremely courteous and professional. But that judgment might be based on a cultural difference of opinion.
With kind regards from Muhu Island, Martin Breuer Hotelier & Restaurateur

Yes they can! Nice bikes too. You get to cycle sometimes on the road, but as there are so few cars - it seems totally safe. The bike routes I saw were gravel .
