Our driver turned off the main road onto a rough track for 9km before arriving at this unique lodge. The main lodge accommodated reception, lounge, restaurant and bar with some outside space. Car parking was also available. Accommodation was in casitas, which was a traditional Costa Rican house. We had an entrance hall with a shower room off. There was...

Loved our little Casida with wood burning fireplace. Spacious room and large bathroom with good closet space. Hotel is on grounds of Nature Preserve and beautiful in every direction you look. Good very good and hotel staff was wonderful. This is a "green hotel" working to preserve their country and our planet.

Sitting high in the mountain tops and ridgelines, covered in morning mist and fog, Villa Blanca stretches across dozens and dozens of acres of verdant, lush Nature, one of the most biologically diverse and abundant places on Earth. Think green. Think pristine. Unlike traditional hotels, the rooms provide room to stretch, spread out over bungalows scattered across the top of...

We spent three days here on the first leg of our honeymoon in May 2014 (late review!) The drive there is pretty tough, being long and bumpy, but totally worth it. The casitas are lovely and homey, and have jacuzzis. The staff was very nice and the food, wow! Many of the ingredients are grown or raised on site, making...

Looking for a place to zen? This is it. The "driveway" is 7km from the road which is 5km to the main road. Solitude. Fantastic and reasonably priced food, cozy bungalows, massages, no tv, beautiful views. A full 3-day stay a must to get the full effect.

Since one is in a cloud forest, the weather at times can be rainy and foggy. However, even though we experienced this weather, we were still able to go out to see birds. When the fog lifted and the sun appeared, the view of the hills and landscape was magnificent. The staff was efficient and very helpful, and I enjoyed...

Villa Blanca was an incredible resort, offering a peaceful, cool environment to relax in Costa Rica. After some days in the beach and rain forest, this cooler environment with fewer insects was a welcome retreat. The property is large with several small hikes where you can observe many beautiful birds and other animals. The onsite cow dairy farm was a...

We really liked the property and how beautiful everything was maintained. You could tell that the staff took pride in the hotel/reserve. The staff was warm, friendly, and very helpful. Food and spa services were very good. The only thing that was really lacking was the dismal quality of the bedding. Sheets were of poor quality, were rough, and kept...

Dear lisa w, We realize we can’t be everything to everyone, but it’s hard to fathom the extent of your critique considering the consistent reviews, year after year, that completely contradict your observations down to the quality of bedding and overall value. However we take every guest evaluation, especially any criticism, as an opportunity to learn from as we continue...

Villa Blanca is an excellent place to enjoy the Cloud Forest. at its best. The cabin was spacious and very comfortable, it even included a fireplace. Food at the restaurant is excellent and since Villa Blanca supports the sustainable concept, some of the food is locally produced (on site). There are also a couple of nice forest trails to walk....

We had a fantastic stay, the service was exceptional all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We did the nature trail in the grounds and the guide was very knowledgeable on the birds and flowers. Also we came across a tarantula on the path, our first, and he coaxed it back into the undergrowth after taking amazing pictures. We...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just over an hour's drive from San Jose International Costa Rica airport (SJO), eco-minded travelers from all over the world have reveled in the beauty of Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Hotel, located within the Los Angeles Private Biological Nature Reserve & Research Station in the Canton of San Ramon. The hotel is ideally situated as a gateway to Arenal Volcano and the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Here, you're immersed in one of the world's most precious and complex jungle ecosystems - the cloud forest. This boutique mountain hotel is nestled on 75-acres of gentle rolling hills, with well-appointed "casitas" and Honeymoon Suites, each with their own fireplace, and surrounded by acres of lush botanical gardens. Originally owned by former president Rodrigo Carazo Odio and First Lady, Estrella Zeledon de Carazo, Villa Blanca has become a renown and cherished Costa Rica destination. The architecture reflects the original farm village concept, with a welcoming Hacienda, offering guests exceptional Costa Rican hospitality, premier dining, a private theater, conference facilities, and pampering spa menu. Also quite unique is a replica of a 14th century Roman wedding chapel, La Mariana, with its hand painted ceramic ceiling. Choose from a variety of nature-based activities, including horseback, zip-lines, and user-friendly guided trials, plus excursions to Arenal and Poas volcanoes, hot springs, and rural-cultural tours. This is the Costa Rica where those who "travel well and travel right" want to go. Please feel free to visit our sister-site, one of the most prestigious Manuel Antonio hotels, Si Como No. ... more   less
