The views were great. Our condo was right on the water with a 180 degree view of the sea. We chilled on the lanai and watched boats/whales pass by. The architecture is much more natural to the island, as opposed to some of the new construction that looks like it's from a California suburb. The landscaping was beautiful and well kept. Now every unit is different as far as furniture and accommodations. While our room had a superior view it suffered greatly in that it was missing a few bare essentials. Namely the dishwasher was broken, carpet was matted and filthy, mouse turds in the corners, low flow shower head, sketchy doors that were rusty and hard to open. All stuff that I would call a maintenance issue. Parking spots are small. You have permanent residents and weekly renters next to you. Every night it seemed that someone had to be having a loud party or conversation that could be heard by all. You're not super spread out...so that's just something to consider if you want quiet. Our condo had no beach gear, no salt/pepper, really crappy cooking pans. We cooked eggs and spent an hour cleaning the camping level cook wear. Some management turn offs were the fact that they advertise to have AC but it was not advertised through AAA that you had to pay extra daily. This felt like a bait and switch for sure. AC bill was $25/day! They also popped us with a $250 cleaning fee, that was not listed in any of our paperwork either. We were able to get that one waived. They have three pools, but the ocean pool is by far the best due to it is on the ocean. Traffic ebbed and flow throughout the week. We generally had no problem finding a spot. COVID We wore masks in the main office, but that was it. 99% of people by the pool had plenty of space around them and you are in the sun and open air. Common sense won the day and people acted like adults. No COVID police roaming about on this property :-) This was in great contrast once we travelled North to Waikoloa area. Food/shopping L&L is good for fast mixed plate. Save your money and stay away from Sam Choy. They have a nice view and friendly bar staff. the food is ok at best. Everything is as to be expected in HI. Food is 20-30% over mainland. The KTA nearby has enough to get by, but we shopped at Costco and Walmart for the basics. You can walk, but it's not close by. Really need a car to get to shopping and decent restaurants. The manta ray experience is within walking distance. you can see the boats at night from the condos. highly recommend.…
In addition to my review of our ocean front property rental, unit 2204, at Kanaloa at Kona this March, I would like to report air conditioning is available for additional cost; however we tried without air conditioning and with the windows and deck door always open, and ceiling fans running in the bedrooms we found we did not need the air conditioning at all, even in the loft bedroom. Note it did make a difference if you don't have the ceiling fans running.
This vacation escape is so much more than you can see in the pictures!!! Take a deep breath because it Will be taken away! Check-in is efficient. The buildings and grounds are clean/well-kept (and beautiful) the pools, tennis courts/ping-pong table all are excellent. Covered parking keeps your vehicle from baking. The home is clean and all furnishings are comfortable and in good shape. Each bedroom has very nice walk-in closets. The Master bedroom is fantastic with a comfortable king and huge master bath. Full kitchen is well stocked and we liked the filtered drinking water in the frig. The WiFi is functionally dependable and the deck is appropriately supplied with a fantastic ocean view you will not tire. We stayed in an ocean front unit; however everyone we talked to offered the same feeling of satisfaction.…
Stayed here December 2020 at an ocean view unit. The excellent views from our unit was spectacular especially the sunsets. The unit was large and spacious and can easily accommodate 5 adults. Our particular unit had 90s style decor which added to the charm. The loft gets very hot even at night so watch out for that. The development is near a shopping center with restaurants and grocery stores. Property is gated. I would definitely come here again for the beautiful views.
We loved staying here. The grounds are beautiful, the sunsets are amazing, the staff is super friendly and responsive, and the entire property is very clean. It's also in a great location for accessing lots of fun activities. The pools are all open. The condos are very large. It's very quiet after dark, which was perfect for sleeping babies and open windows. We'll be back!
