I had to go on a work trip to 29 Palms. It was highly recommended to me by many I stay at Roughley Manor. From the moment I checked in, I did not want to leave. It is more than a home away from home. You are treated like family by Gary and Jan. The room I stayed in was... More

We came upon an ad for Roughly Manor purely by accident after stopping by a local saloon just outside of Joshua Tree National Park and thumbing through their local paper. The ad looked neat and we had nowhere lined up yet, so we called to see if they had any rooms and luckily for us they did! Since we were... More

all the reviews about how good this place is are very accurate. We stayed in the Oasis room. It had a sitting area, a kitchen with microwave and small refrigerator, satellite TV as well as a DVD player. It was decoratd nicely and comfy. There was a small sitting area in front of the room. The breakfasts were very good... More

As we drove up the lane to the Roughley Manor, we knew we were in for a treat. After spending a week camping in the park, our stay at the manor could not have been any more welcome. Gary is warm, outgoing and a great source of information. The grounds are a pleasure for the senses as well as the... More

"I must have made a wrong turn." "Those tripadvisor reviewers must all be friends and family." "Get me out of here!" These are your thoughts as you head down the desolate Joe Davis Drive toward Roughley Manor. It's too late now: you're in the Mojave Desert and it's not like there's a Four Seasons, or even a Marriott, for many miles.... This was probably our favourite place to stay on our trip around the US. We had spent a week in CT, New York and Boston as so were a little apprehensive as we drove further and further into the desert from Los Angeles - as the scenery and towns were something of a contrast to our East Coast experience thus... We spent three days in this wonderful bed and breakfast. The room we had was really more like a small studio but very spacious. It had a living room area complete with Dish TV, a small kitchen with a microwave and frig as well as basis dishes, and a beautiful large bathroom. It seemed to be new so everything was... More

Roughley Manor is a delightful oasis in the high desert town of 29 Palms. Jan and Gary Peters, the owners, are great hosts, making everyone feel welcome. The rooms, decorated by Jan, share a crisp, homey feel, though each has its own theme and character. This is what I would want my home to feel like: well put together, with... More

We chose Roughley Manor because it was convenient to Joshua Tree National Park and was highly recommended on this site. It is so nice, it is an attraction in its own right. It is surrounded by a garden shaded by tall fan palms, with beautiful plantings. The main manor building and our cottage were very nicely furnished. Our suite was... More

We had a nice long weekend vacation in Twentynine Palms staying at Roughley Manor, hiking in Joshua Tree National Park, and shopping near Palm Springs. We stayed in a separate cabin, beautifully decorated, very clean, with plush towels and bathrobes at our disposal. The innkeepers were gracious, friendly, accommodating and welcoming, Our breakfasts were attractively presented and delicious.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Formerly the Roughley Manor, this historic desert inn returns to its roots, honoring Bill & Elizabeth Campbell, the original homesteaders in the 1920's. Step back in time and experience old-world charm at this historic desert inn, located minutes from Joshua Tree National Park in the Mojave Desert, California. Choose from two guest suites on the second floor of the historic Colonial style house, and ten suites and cottages on the surrounding property. What began as a modest homestead property in 1925 has been transformed over the years into a modern day desert oasis, with twelve spacious and luxurious guest suites. Unlike anything you'll find in the Mojave Desert, The Campbell House is a Philadelphia style Colonial house built in the late 1920's by early homesteaders and renowned archeologists Bill & Elizabeth Campbell. Set on 25 secluded acres, surrounded by towering Washingtonia fan palms and lush gardens, The Campbell House property offers a peaceful retreat, where you can experience the quiet and calm of the open desert. Discover Joshua Tree National Park, experience our breathtaking starry night skies. Rejuvenate with a massage, followed by a dip in the pool or hot tub. Find some shade and unwind in one of our many gardens, or play a game of bocce ball with the kids and reconnect. The time is yours. Choose from two guest suites on the second floor of the main house, and ten cottages on the surrounding property. Enjoy complimentary breakfast, pool and hot tub access, and on-site massage therapy. Rooms are spacious and elegantly decorated. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and Direct TV. Select rooms are pet-friendly. ... more   less
