We spent three nights at this charming family-run hotel and despite rainy weather thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The room and bathroom were spacious, with high ceilings and light-coloured furniture which added to the feeling of space. We ate in the cosy restaurant two out of three evenings and found the food traditional and good, particularly the home-made noodles, while we felt very at home enjoying a beer or glass of wine in the bar which seemed to be very popular with the locals. The breakfast too was very tasty and nourishing with a good choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, eggs, cheese and cold meats as well as excellent bread. Overall, Waidhofen was a good choice for unambitious walking and enjoyment of beautiful, but not dramatic, scenery. Moreover, a car was not necessary since there is a good bus and rail network.
