We came to Zell am See in June for a Summer Hiking Trip with the family and found Waldgasthaus Kohlergraben by accident. It is on the map but is in a beautiful forest location so you have to look for walking route 58A on your map. They have a wonderful terrace overlooking a lovely small lake and the peace and beauty of the forest surrounds you. The owners are Irish and are really lovely people. They gave us some great tips for walks and trips to go on and checked what was on in Zell am See for the week for us, even got a weather forecast for the 7 day holiday! They have a varied menu with Austrian dishes as well as BBQ and burgers/snacks. We went for a Brettljause which was local cured meats and cheeses with salad and bread, hearty and cheap at the price, my son had a huge burger with chips and salad and my wife a goats cheese salad... yummy! We had a few beers and cokes on the terrace and it was such a lovely day we didn't leave!! My son had a great time playing with a huge, furry, teddy bear (or the Dog!! Schnaps) and was heartbroken to leave him behind. We came back for dinner 2 nights later with our friends and the 16 of us enjoyed great ribs Austrian style so tender the meat fell off the bone, we sat outside until late and then moved into the bar area which was lit with candles everywhere... so beautiful! We had a local dessert Kaiserschmarr'n which you must order if you go and a few Irish coffees to finish.. one of the best nights of the holiday!! The owners organised taxis for us to town which was only €8.00 euro down a few had a nice walk into town centre. I would go back - and a tip be sure to ring for a booking for dinner... don't miss those ribs!…
