Norma Marie and her husband are great hosts. The rooms are big and clean with a nice, classic Austrian balcony. We sat out on the balcony many afternoons watching the cows and drinking Stiegl beers from the fridge. Breakfast was soft boiled eggs, musli, yogurt, meat and cheese, coffee and rolls. You can hike up the hill and through the forest and you are in Germany, where there's a great restaurant (Hotel Neuhäusl). Great for a Schnitzel fix! Ask Marie for the transportation passes so you can take the train to Salzburg. Highly recommend this place!
We stayed here for my 60th birthday treat. What a gem!! We wanted to experience the true austria not the tourist view. We could not have picked better. Our hosts were welcoming when we arrived and could not have been friendlier during our stay. They were helpful with ideas of trips and events and places nearby to eat. The accommodation was a true Austrian house. We felt part of the house and did not feel we were an intrusion. Our hosts were very happy to chat to us as they're english was so much better than our few words of Austrian! Luckily we all had a good sense of humour which made the stay even more relaxing! We had a double room with balcony so could sit out in the day and evening sipping beer or wine and viewing the mountains and views around us. The ensuite was spacious, clean and modern. Every day our room was cleaned and beds made to perfection(I as a trained nurse tried to make the beds but I did not meet the exacting standards of Norma- Maria!!). The house was up a mountain road with a few other houses around but it was a quiet and peaceful location surrounded by meadows and in the distance houses over the border with Germany. We enjoyed listening to birds, watching sunsets and misty mornings. Breakfast was a delight of fresh rolls, jams, marmalades, meats, cheeses and fresh tasty eggs from the local chicken with coffee and tea. We had use of a fridge to put drinks or food in if we wanted to eat on the balcony at night after a day out. The house is a few kilometres from the local quaint town of Hallein where the food in the Gausthof was delicious and good value. Salzburg was very accessible with the park and ride a few miles from the house. We hired a car and were able to be free to go to all the areas we wanted. As Germany is only a few kilometres away we were able to go over the border and enjoy Konigsee and the lakes. If you want a relaxing but true Austrian experience of living within an austrian home this is the place to stay. All sightseeing and excursions to places are within an acceptable distance from herei.e Salzburg, Salt mines (worth the trip to put on overalls and slide down the wooden slides to hear about the history), Bertchesgaden, Krimml Falls and Grossglockner Glacier. Michael and Norma-Maria are excellent hosts who are willing to accomodate you in their home and give you a holiday to remember with their friendliness and help. We will be saving to go again for the experience of staying with them experiencing the true Austrian holiday not being a tourist!!…
