Stayed here for 3 nights in September. Nancy the lady on reception was so friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. The room was a good size, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and modern. We could park right outside our room and didn't have any problem with noise outside. Enjoyed the hot tub after each day... More

Room was spotless and spacious, manager very friendly and helpful and the map/insights he provided on the Blackhills proved invaluable - the route he recommended to drive towards Deadwood was phenomenal. Check in was smooth, check-out was as easy as dropping a key. The beds were comfortable, bathroom well stocked, and everything worked as planned. Excellent value too for a... More

Pros - good price for clean, spacious rooms, great AC, nice indoor pool/hot tub/sauna, good wifi, comfy beds. Good location, walking distance to everything in town, and easy drive to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer State Park. Cons - weak shower, no room phone, noise starts about 6:30 in the mornings from the cars, trucks and motorcycles parked in... More

We have stayed at the Chief in Custer at least three times when visiting the Black Hills area. The owners are so friendly & welcoming and the property is well maintained and charming & cozy. So many shops and restaurants are easy walking distance from this quaint motel and the "drive-to" attractions nearby are world class as well as the... More

Clean and comfortable. Owners are very nice and helpful. Stayed four (4) nights and it was perfect for exploring the area, Would recommend it and would stay again. Only issue was some guests have no clue how to do things quietly.

Nice place to stay and convenient to the attractions. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. It was a little noise (some of the other guests congregated on the walkway in front of our rooms), but it was tolerable.

We had a 4 night stay at the Chief and loved it. Fit our needs except for the dorm-size refrigerator being on the floor. Got tired of having to get on my hands and knees to access it. Room was very comfortable otherwise. Owners are so friendly and welcoming. It's a great location if you are planning a trip to... More

Stayed one night while in the black hills and custer state park area. Unusual 2 room room, a sliding pocket door dividing the 2 beds. Liked it for privacy. Hot tub was appreciated but didn't see the jet control til we got out. It's on a different wall. Still nice to soak. Quiet room. Very clean. Only drawback is no... More

We were really disappointed in our room. Room was fairly clean and bed comfortable. Had a choice of 2 different rooms but one was stuffy so chose the other. Had to step up into the shower but the floor was slick with not enough traction for someone with bad knees and no handle for assistance. Floor in front of toilet... More

We got a double room. Was smaller than what we were expecting The rooms were very clean. and the staff was very helpful. The pool was way too cold to swim but the hot tub was good for the three of us and not much more
