We had an amazing time! We had a cabin which was fantastic, and ate meals at the lodge. The diversity of ecozones is incredible - huge variety of birds. We saw Quetzals, Bellbirds, and an Olinga! Of course we saw many many other birds including 14 different species of hummingbirds. The views were incredible and our hosts delightful. Jeffrey took... More

They arranged everything!! Their driver picked us up at the Costa Rica - Panama border and drove us to the lodge. On the way we stopped at a grocery store for supplies (snack and lunch food). The same driver also drove us to the airport on our last morning, 5 days later. The last several km to the lodge are... More

Mount Totumas has it all. Five-star accommodations for all budgets, both off-the-grid with hydroelectric power but also with all the amenities you can ask for including hot water showers, wifi internet, and 24-7 electricity. Every detail of this place is exquisite, but the real action is beyond the walls of the buildings: Jeff and Alma have created landscape that brings... More

This lodge is very remote (and beautiful), and the trails are mostly steep. If you hire a driver to get you there (you REALLY need a 4WD), plan to spend about $200 round trip. The road is very rough, and passes through a stream. On very rare occasions, the stream is high and you need to wait to cross. In... More

Staying at the Mount Totumas ecolodge was by far the highlight of our trip in Panama! We stayed at the hacienda lounge for 2 nights - the views were incredible, food was amazing, we saw spider monkeys and different bird species on our hike, and Jeffrey and his family were so accommodating! Would definitely recommend this place!

It is difficult place to get too - nearly an hour in a four wheel drive but what a place. Wonderful walks with an amazing variety of bird life. The terrace has wonderful views and you can see lots of birds and monkeys simply sitting there. The rooms are to a high standard and the food is very good. The... More

This is definitely a must if you like birds, nature and a place far away from the maddening crowd. We spent 7 days here and it was worth every minute of it. We stayed in the 'Homestead' Heliconia room instead of the lodge as we were then able to cook for ourselves in the full kitchen if we chose to.... More

Maybe it's Jeff and Alma's devotion (with commitments and actions) to protecting the cloud forest. Maybe it's the incredible beauty of the landscape. Maybe it's the flora and fauna. Maybe its the well marked and well groomed system of trails into the jungle. Maybe its Jeff and Alma's gracious and comforting care. Whatever it is (we attribute it to all... More

Stayed here for 4 nights with my husband Colm at the end of February 2016. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Accommodation was fantastic really comfy bed in the huge Mariposa Room in Bellbird lodge. Jeffrey and Alma were wonderful hosts, Alma cooking beautiful food with gentle grace, especially her curry and Jeffrey educating and sharing his knowledge of ecology,... More

We enjoyed 2 nights in the beautifully appointed Geisha room in the exquisite Bellbird Lodge. Hosts Jeffrey and Alma have created an outstanding sanctuary in the Tierras Altas, just at the edge of the Amistad park. The scenery, birds and howlers, hiking are breath taking. The meals were delicious and much appreciated after the long hikes in the mountains. The... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mount Totumas Cloud Forest is a 400 acre eco resort with private cabins and rooms located in a remote cloud forest wilderness bordering La Amistad National Park in western Panama. In 2014 we just completed the Bellbird Lodge perched on a ridge with views directly on to the canopy of the Cloud Forest. The lodge has a restaurant and 5 private rooms with bath and common area living area with large windows with stunning views into La Amistad National Park. Access to Mount Totumas Cloud Forest requires a 4WD vehicle and we provide transportation services from Volcan, David and Boquete for those guests that do not have their own 4WD vehicle. For guests with 2WD rental cars we provide a secure place to leave your vehicle in Volcan. There are 9 trails covering over 40km that provides access to 2nd growth and old growth forests, pastures, riparian and edge habitat. The Resplendent Quetzal, Three Wattled Bellbird and 200 other bird species have been recorded. Three species of monkeys and a great diversity of flora await you on the trails. We have accommodations that fit every budget from private rooms sharing kitchens where guests can prepare their own meals to exclusive cabins and full service restaurant. Great for families, birdwatchers, and those looking for a pristine natural environment. Climate is perfect for hiking, mornings are cool and mid day reaches warm but not hot temperatures. We are 1900m above sea level and border directly La Amistad National Park. ... more   less
