Parking is a little complicated, as well as finding the place. That being said it is completely worth it. The place is beautiful, loved the shower, the location-albeit a little on the nervous side is exactly where I was looking for, close enough to the excitement but not able to hear it at sleep time. I will definitely be back.
I want to start by saying that the service in the hotel was great, most of the staff was super nice and accommodating. That being said, this was one of the most disgusting hotels I’ve ever been in, and after three nights, we abandoned it for a cleaner hotel that was three times the price because we were that desperate to leave. I think the main issue here is that the building is pretty old, and renovating an old building requires professionals to ensure things like plumbing and AC are executed properly. I suspect this entire building was flipped using pinterest and a few very amateur DIYs. Just walking into the building proves this theory, because you’re immediately hit with a smell that can only be sewage and Fabuloso, and after three days, it’s pretty difficult to ignore. For instance, the cave-like shower in our room was a cool idea in theory, but because there isn’t an inch of ventilation anywhere in the room (just a motel-style AC unit to fan air at you), the whole room fills with moisture that has nowhere to go so it just drips down the walls. We finally had the courage to check out the shower with a flashlight and it was of course, infested with black mold. I honestly wonder how often the rooms are actually cleaned, because in addition to the mold, there was a thick layer of dust on the windows and nearly every surface and there were weird stains on things like the walls and window shades. Other highlights include broken outlets, lamps without lightbulbs, and pillows covered in mildred. Staying here was more like staying in a two star hostel, not a boutique hotel. I would recommend it for a quick over night crash during maris gras, but not a moment longer.…
I loved this hotel. My husband and I stayed here for Mardi Gras and we walked every where. Bourbon street is about a 15-20 minute walk and Harrah’s casino is about the same time. What I loved about it was how quiet it was and clean. Sure, it was a small room but who cares, we just needed a bed to sleep in (and by the way the bed is EXTREMELY comfortable). We parked at university parking garage although they do have a garage they share with the Hilton. The bartenders at pisco bar were so awesome. We had some great drinks there. We would definitely stay again. The only Thing I didn’t like was the shower. It was kind of hard to go from extremely hot water To just regular water.
This was a great boutique hotel off the beaten path. Do not expect high end hotel with all of the amenities...no coffee maker in the room, no refrigerator, etc. but the hotel makes up for it with charm. Our biggest (and possibly only) complaint is that the door did not have a deadbolt (room 15). The lock was your basic interior door lock like at home. Although we felt fairly safe, a deadbolt or chain lock is pretty standard, particularly when we stayed during Mardi Gras. The floors in the room are painted concrete. The internet was spotty and slow. The shower has wooden grated floor which was interesting and unique, but kind of awkward and a little uncomfortable. The rain shower had no pressure and was finicky on temperature. We didn't use the rooftop bar or the hotel bar, but the spaces were neat. I worried about the noise from the rooftop bar, but it was fairly quiet. If you are looking for an interesting room, this is it!…
I stayed in, what I believe was, the smallest room and it was perfect for one person! If you're a couple, I think it would be great for you as well. The rooms was very unique but still really comfortable. The shower was amazing. It was a really nice departure from your run of the mill hotel. Piscobar is really fun and the cocktails and dumplings are delicious. Service was outstanding. I will definitely be staying here again when I visit NOLA!
