Do not stay here if you want some fancy new thing. It is a very old building with lots of charm, great location, and (besides the blonde front desk lady who makes you wait while she talks on the phone about going to interview) super friendly staff. I would stay again.

The staff here are wonderful and even went above and beyond for me when I left my coat after checkout. The location is great and we especially enjoyed starting and finishing our days in the courtyard that has a great vibe. I would recommend this hotel to others.

Hotel Royal has the best staff I have ever encountered on a trip. The location is perfect for walking to near by shops, restaurants, and bars. If one prefers small boutique hotels to modern giant, multi floor hotels, this is the place for you.

Dear Judy R, Thank you for your positive feedback. I agree, this hotel is not for everyone, the Hotel Royal is for that special type of traveler who really wants to experience this city. You can stay in a big chain hotel in any city and have the same experience, but the Hotel Royal is something you can never experience...

Wonderful hotel on the edge of the hustle and bustle in the French quarter, In walking distance to everything but still quiet enough for great sleep. Right down the street from Lafitte's and close to Cafe Du Monde

Too many non-working parts of the room. Also, the balcony was not through a door but instead thru a floor to ceiling window that was very heavy to pull up and then held in place with a tiny latch--not safe. Then you had to duck under the window to get to the balcony. The other window went into the next...

Dear Mary Jo Q, Thank you for your feedback. Our window-entry balconies are safe, as it's been part of the structure for almost 200 years, I doubt anything would last so long without being replaced if it wasn't safe. I'm curious what you mean by "the other window went into the next room's balcony" as all of our balconies are...

Nice hotel, great location right in the heart of the Vieux Carre. Our fourth floor room gave us a workout (no elevator) but the friendliness of the staff (especially bellman Eric) made up for it. All in all thumb up.

Dear dannyboylongislandny, Thank you for your feedback. It's especially nice to read when someone has pleasant things to say even after four flights of stairs! Eric is certainly happy to be called out, and we are extremely proud to have him as part of our staff. Thanks again and we await your return. Regards,

The location is perfectly placed in the French Quarter just one block away from the daily party. 4 blocks from Cafe du Monde and Jackson Square, a few blocks from Brennans (same street), multiple art galleries on the same street... what's not to love?

Great staff, wonderful location but need to replace mattress. Also had a problem with bath towels not being replaced. Nice court yard but having a room next to it not necessarily great. Loud guests talking in court yard as late as 2am.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
