My first tip? Bring a pen and paper when you arrive as you will receive incredibly comprehensive advice about what to do and see in New Orleans. Phil introduced us to everything we would need to know - where to go to see good jazz, what to eat, how to get a free trip across the Mississippi, what to do...

This is my first time in New Orleans so I can't make comparisons with other places to stay, but if I return I'll definitely stay here again. The location is pretty good, close enough to easily walk to the French Quarter but far enough that you can actually get some sleep, since the busy streets of Bourbon etc feature loud...

This is a great place. First, the location is ideal. The Faubourg Marigny is a great alternative to the French Quarter, with wonderful restaurants and fine jazz clubs in the vicinity of Frenchmen Street without the Bourbon Street hustle. But if you want to go to the French Quarter, and let’s face it- you will, it’s a safe 5 to...

After a long drive from Atlanta this was just what we needed. A gracious old building in the Faubourg Marigney. Near enough to the French Quarter and all its attractions but just far enough out to be peaceful and quiet. A very warm welcome from Philip who overloaded us with excellent information and where to go and what to eat....

This feels like home and we are sad to be leaving today. We can't imagine staying anywhere else in New Orleans. It's a comfortable 4- to 6-block walk to the French Quarter, and no safety issues at all coming back at night along Decatur, Frenchmen and Royal. Quiet neighborhood, friendly people. Spent six nights here and we could do everything...

We had a wonderful time in this B&B in New Orleans. Philip is the best landlord you can find: nice, very kind and funny. We followed all the advices he gave us about restaurants and places to see and we were really satisfied. The location is perfect: a few small blocks from the french quarter, in a zone that is...

We stayed here for two nights in April of 2010, in Room number 11. The room was delightful, a large room with balcony access (shared balcony). The room had hardwood floors, ample storage, and cute step-up bathroom that was very well supplied. The owners, Phil and David, were very sociable and offered good suggestions for a neighborhood bar (Schiro's) and...

We stayed in room 7, which we thought might be noisy but we really enjoyed our stay and the only noise was due to the slightly creaky floors when the friendly owners got breakfast set up in the adjacent room. This room is nice because of the en-suite bathroom, there were plenty of towels, free wi-fi, a welcoming porch, and,...

Reading through all the previous posts I really don’t know what to add. Go down a few posts and read Lancelotc’s post. All I can add is this is our home away from home in New Orleans and we’d never think of staying anywhere else! (I miss sitting on the front porch with my glass of wine)

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
