India House Hostel in New Orleans This year for Jazz Fest I stayed at the India House Hostel on South Lopez Street in mid-city. My whole experience there was superb. The hostel is spread over four buildings, and my dorm (6 bunkbeds) had air conditioning. They serve $5 breakfasts and dinners, and they have Wi-Fi, washers & driers, and even... More

I went with a theatre tour with a group of 11 of us all in one shared room. We were very impressed by the food available for breakfast, yes it's not a lot but it was cheap and handy. Everyone there was very welcoming and made for a memorable trip.

Just because this is a hostel doesn't mean that it should be a complete MESS, dirty and disorganized as HELL! They don't even have a system at the computer, upon check in they were drawing the rooms in a piece of paper with pencil and rubbing all the mistakes they did constantly. We had to wait for a room to... More

I spent two nights there with a former coworker. I will definitely recommend it to people looking for a nice budget accommodation. We enjoyed it. Our priority was to visit the French Quarter and the main assets of the city though. We chose it based on positive reviews on an other platform for hostels, for its good location--there was a... Stayed there for 6 nights. Was pretty quiet and decent. It wasn't the closest to the Quarter, but this area was easily accessible for myself with Uber. The hostel was clean and I had a pleasant stay. Breakfast WAS NOT free. (You had to pay, which was a bit of a letdown) Other than that, a pretty decent place. And... More

We stayed in India house for a total of two weeks, between the 16 bed dorm and a private room (which was voodoo-inspired). In every way - price, location, atmosphere, staff - the hostel exceeded our expectations. The staff especially were really lovely and even showed us around the city one night. They serve an affordable breakfast and dinner, and... More

I stayed here with a few friends during the French Quarter festival. I have stayed here multiple times, in a private room as well as the dorm style with 8 other females. This place is such a good deal! There is a bus stop on the corner that you can hop on to get to the quarter. The staff is... More

The hostel itself is undoubtedly shabby. Especially the bathroom in the house with a very small shower: the wooden floor next to it doesn't look good anymore. However, I have the impression that hostel staff tries to keep the facilities clean (i.e. bathroom is being cleaned every day, there is always enough toilet paper, it doesn't get groce except for... During our stay the staff was very friendly and the other guests were young and from all over the world. Great chance to meet new people and have a good time. The pool is very cool too. The location isn't great but there's shuttles and if you have a car you're not far from downtown and bourbon street.
