I stayed at St. Vincent's Guesthouse in April of 2004, which was a long time ago but also long overdue. I was traveling with a photography group from Southern Illinois (through SIUC). Our reservation had not been confirmed upon arrival, but the hotel staff was able to make room for us. The Building: AMAZING from an artistic/historic viewpoint. Many of...

If I can post my pictures from stay there....YOU WILL KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!! We went there for the Essence Festival....like most not knowing about this spot. First when we got there...no one was at the front desk. When she came out she was sweaty....but nice! It was HOT! We got there around 1:30 am. This spot looks...

St. Vincents is great! Went for New Years and was expecting to pay way too much for one night but found this place! Cheap, close to everything but far enough away from the noise, quiet, peaceful. GREAT coffee shop called MOJO Cafe across the street with great coffee! We didnt get to try the restaurant attached to the building but...

Whilst the renovations of the old rooms will dramatically increase the amenity of the Guesthouse, the quality of the food, the menu choice and the price of the food at the Gardens Edge Cafe (which is attached to the Guesthouse) more than made up for the very basic rooms.

The pictures on Expedia made the Hotel look charming and the History of the place sounded cool. Upon walking in to register the first thing I noticed was it was extremely hot in the lobby, if you can call it that. When we got to the room it was not a King Room and the window unit air conditioner did...

St. Vincent's Guest House would first like to point out that this review was recently written reguarding the customers stay over 3 years ago. We find the timing of this posted review saddening and also peculiar. The guest stayed at our establishment right after Katrina while MANY of the other hotels were not even open yet. St. Vincents strived to...

After reading the mixed reviews, stayed anyway -decided some folks just like to complain...so paid in advance (in cash) to avoid any credit card issues. The draw was the fact of this being a historical site and it was also the Cheapest place I could find (1/2 price of major hotel) and after reading reviews, I had very low expectations,...

This is one of the last truly historical New Orleans hotels in operation today. In its ~150-year history, it’s been an orphanage for the childhood causalities of the Civil War, a sanctuary for unwed mothers, a shelter for flood victims, and now it’s a rare chance for visitors to join the warm neighborhood community during their stay in the city....

My wife and I stayed here during our first 'big' vacation in 2005 and decided to come back after a cruise that left out of New Orleans. We booked through a website and had a few complications that we needed to talk with the staff about and they helped every step of the way. Need to book an extra day...

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
St. Vincent Guest House is Under New Management!!! As of December 1, 2013 The Guest House will be operated under a new management team that is dedicated to improving both the aesthetics and overall condition of the entire establishment. Steps are being taken to bring this beautiful and historical building to its fullest potential and offer our guests a wonderful experience and comfortable stay. St. Vincent's is not a full service hotel, it is more of hostel/quaint budget hotel that is both economical and located in one of the best areas in the City of New Orleans. (The Lower Garden District) First opened in 1861 as a orphanage; the building has a distinct and colorful history that is worth exploring. The lobby is adorned with photos that reflect the history and show the building's usage over the last 100+ years. Each room has an individual decor and design scape that will make you feel as though you are walking into an era of Nola history gone by... The grounds are well kept and offer several areas for outdoor seating for morning coffee, an evening cigar or just great conversations... Our staff have been trained and are dedicated to providing each guest with the highest level of customer services with courtesy and a smile. Although there are not a great deal of amenities available, every guest will find that the Guest House offers a tremendous value for the price. We have both private sleeping rooms as well as dormitories available. There have been several negative reviews that have been posted in the past and those reviews have been duly noted and taken into consideration for action as we move towards improvements... Likewise, there have been several positive reviews from guests who have enjoyed their stay and the experience at the Guest House; and for that we are thankful! We look forward to this new era at St. Vincent's and welcome each and every guest with open arms... ... more   less
