Well, first off, most of these reviews are pretty accurate. This hotel is as far from luxury as you'll find. However, I don't agree with those who say this is like an hourly hotel with hookers and drug dealers running around. And as tired and worn as the building was, it wasn't dirty and I never felt unsafe. It's no...

A nightmare since we stepped into this hotel! Still can't understand how is this business even allowed to run?? Isn't there ANY governing body for inspecting the bare minimum standard n hygiene for the hotel business at all???? With the danger of the TV above the bed about to fall in our heads, non-working A/C dangling out of the wall,...

A dump. Indifferent to rude staff. Notices about crime posted everywhere don't inspire confidence. Ran into a biker in Marigny who warned me to stay below Saint Claude Avenue, which is a grimy urban boulevard, if I wanted to stay safe. Guess where this is. For almost the same price, you can get an night at the Ellis, a boutique...

This is the worst hotel I have ever been to in my life. I normally don't give reviews on hotels but I feel compelled to do it for whomever is reading. The room is probably 100 square feet. It's ghetto nasty and filthy. The bed feels like you are sleeping on the floor. There is no fridge or microwave in...

.Gross, rotten floor, blood spatter from junkies needles on walls, hookers, trannys, drug dealers, rude staff, and a rude cruel owner Joan Brooks has no compassion for humans. Only money. She has to pay the inspectors off to keep this barely habitable place in what they call buisiness. 0 STARS. The Empress Hotel is evil.

It was great as far as location was concerned. The staff was excellent, very helpfull. The people that stayed there were very friendly and helpfull in finding the good places to eat- mom and pop joints. The surrounding area looks a bit rough but there were no problems in going to and from the Quarter. It is an old hotel...

Having left booking accommodation in New Orleans to the last moment and having an Airbnb possibility fall through the Empress was one of the only places within walking distance of the French Quarter with rooms within our budget. Even so we still paid over $70 per night which is well over the amount many other reviewers are reporting. We were...

We could not even stay here because of the amount of prostitutes. When we arrived here, there were hookers in the parking lot and the hotel lobby. The receptionists would not touch anything without wearing surgical gloves which is disgusting. The kids were terrified to even get out of the car when we pulled up. When we got back to...

The Empress Hotel has the least expensive room rates you will find in Downtown New Orleans. It is located just steps from the French Quarter in the Treme. The Treme is a neighborhood full of culture and history. The Treme is the birth place of jazz. The Hotel offers free parking for its guests, free parking is not offered at...

This is by far the cheapest hotel in downtown New Orleans, we paid less than $40 a night. Having said that you get what you pay for! The rooms are in pretty shabby condition, the best is the worst I have ever slept on (to be honest the floor would be better!), the shower would go from freezing to scalding,...

Staying in Treme

Neighbourhood Profile
Treme
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.

“Just never stay here; there ARE no good rooms.”
  • Where the bed bugs live. Horrible, horrible.
  • The TV was so tiny, you couldn't see it from the bed, which was the only place to be.
  • This speaks for itself. Disgusting.
  • No surfaces to put anything on except the chair.
  • Not one shelf to put anything on. No hooks to hang anything up.
