My family and I stayed in the Degas House during a recent trip to New Orleans, and had a marvelous time. The house is lovely and well kept, and the neighborhood is well located, both for visiting the Quarter, Marigny, and some less well known destinations in Treme and Mid-City. However, when I stay in B&Bs one of the things...

As the director of the Degas House, I want to Thank You for your review. I appreciate your flattering remarks of the home’s condition and favorable location; however, I was surprised to learn that you were dissatisfied with our service. In particular, you penalized us in your ranking because, according to your standards, we did not provide the warm, homey...

My Friends and I stayed here for her Bachlorette Party. It was (5) of us and we had the Estelle Bridal Suite as well as the adjoining room. First, the Hotel is Gorgeous and being a local I thought the historic charm really made it special. The Rooms were breathless and the balcony is one of a kind. The Breakfast...

Thank you for the kind review! We enjoyed having you and your friends. Y'all were so much fun! The balcony in the Estelle Suite actually inspired Degas' painting "Woman Seated on a Balcony." I'm so glad you enjoyed our Creole breakfast. We decided to start serving it seven days a week now. We hope to see you and your friends...

Our (2 of us) 2nd stay at Degas House; last in 2003 to celebrate graduation, although lived in New Orleans then. The house was empty, so our room was upgraded at no charge, can't guarantee that though. This stay was 3 nights for Mardi Gras, 2011 (full house) It's a quiet neighborhood, so very peaceful, filled with Degas' art (after...

Thank you so much for the complimentary review! We are so glad you had a great time. The Garrett Room was where Degas' nieces and nephews used to play on rainy days. I'm glad you liked the easel setup. The purpose behind it is that these rooms were modeled after artists' studios. We really enjoyed having you stay with us.

Wow The Degas House was wonderful. We stayed in the Desiree Room and enjoyed the spacious jacuzzi. The Staff was very friendly and breakfast was delicious. Its also a very nice short walk to the exciting French Quarter, or there was a bus stop right next to the bed and breakfast. I would recommend staying here to anyone who is...

Originally being from the Midwest, I have had very little experience with the New Orleans area. However, after speaking with the Degas house staff, we were pointed in the direction of many unique New Orleans attractions, many of which were walking distance from the house. The house itself is very ornate, with prints of the impressionist Edward Degas (for whom...

Thank you for the kind review! We're so glad you had a good time here at our home. The Edgar Degas Foundation tries to keep the house as traditional as possible. One of the projects we're currently working on is adding shutters on both houses. Please come visit us again soon and thank you again!

Staying in Treme

Neighbourhood Profile
Treme
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.

“We avoided the garret rooms because of warnings about the AC. Might have been OK at another time of the year, but not in June.”

“The rooms on the 3rd floor were in bad shape The beds are all old. Cock roaches every where even in the freezer & the fridge!!! This place needs just more renovations & for the price that we paid , it was way way too much ! I would not recommend it at all. Being old & historical is right but mean while can be clean & worthy of stay!!”

“Wish there was, but as far as I could tell, there were no "good" rooms. We booked a pricey suite but left before spending a single night!”
  • Main light switch as you enter the room, missing paint and paint cracked
  • More bad paint.
  • This is from inside the bathroom looking out to the second bedroom. The trim was disgusting!
  • Bathroom sink pulling off the wall, mold. Gross.
