Gorgeous surroundings make up for the basic accommodation. The Bungalows are secluded, overlooking the water and tropical gardens. Loved waking up early to that view, and the outdoor shower at sunset after a visit to the beach. Amazing and plentiful breakfasts with home cooked breads, and definitely book yourself in for one of Karen’s gourmet dinners, best meal you will have in Costa Rica. Not much to do but that was the point. No AC which was fine for sleeping but very hot during the day. Beautiful quiet area to explore. Go now it won’t stay that way forever. Horseback ride was incredible, just us on a long ride on the beach highly recommended. Nosara not too far which is buzzing and with checking out.
I was visiting San Juanillo for the first time and this was one of two places that had rooms available on December 30th. We booked the other option, and I am glad we did. On that afternoon, we wanted to check the place and have a drink during sunset. We walked to the place and there was a sign of "ring the bell" at a garden door outside the propperty. Since this is unusual for a hotel/restaurant we just walked in and got to the main deck, looking for somebody to ask for information and have us seated. An older guy was sitting talking at the telephone. A couple minutes later, he came to us shouting and shaking his hands completely crazy and out of his mind, stating that this was a private place, cursing and screaming "fuera". I tried to explain that we were visiting the place for the first time and were looking for information but he wouldn't let us talk. It was embarassing but at the same time we felt sorry for the guy, so we just got out of there. The place itself is nothing special, just a basic wood deck that doesn't feel very secure at all. Besides, it is built within the public beachfront area, which is illegal. We later asked around about this gentleman and he was very well known, there was a time he wouldn't let visitors walk to the beach, being all beaches in Costa Rica public places by law. Save yourself the bad vibes in this place.…
We loved our stay at Treetops with Karen and Jack. They are incredible hosts and Karen and outstanding chef ! We had the best 5 course dinner ever ! The location is so special. The beach very private. The small town quite and still original. We felt so privileged to be able to spent 2 days at such a beautiful place with wonderful people "spoiling" us. Thank you Karen and Jack. Sabine & Sandra
We stayed a while here with (2 adults and 2 teenagers) It was an amazing place set in beautiful grounds with fantastic views to sea. The bungalows more than dealt with our needs. Very comfortable and clean. Our children enjoyed it more than anywhere we had visited in the Country. Jack and Karen are great. They went so far to make sure we had a good time. Way over and above you might get from a concierge at an expensive Hotel! The food Karen prepares is excellent and of course Jack, a great waiter! We may of put on a few pounds but that was our doing! We will certainly return to this beautiful place. Thank you
My wife and I spent 3 nights of our honeymoon staying in one of the bungalows here and had a wonderful experience. We did Karen's 5 course tasting menu each evening and was never disappointed. I'm a celiac and she went so far as to make gluten free flax seed crackers. Jack is a great conversation and has enough stories for 5 lifetimes, be sure to chat him up. He organized a quick 2 hour fishing trip with a local guide where we caught a small black tuna and saw loads of wild life from turtles to manta rays. We would highly recommend this and be sure to rent a 4x4 truck to get there.
